Rating: Summary: Demille's John Corey character is one of the Best! Review: Over the years I have become a real fan of Nelson Demille, but his stories with John Corey in them are his best work. The Lion's Game is very fast paced, and Corey is hillairious! His on going critque of the people he is surrounded by keeps things moving. The story itself, is really quite beleiveable for the times we live in. Asad Kahill is pure evil. I was sorry to get to the end, Demille is a master! Can't wait for the next one.
Rating: Summary: Fast-paced, funny -- DeMille at his best! Review: DeMille's character, John Corey, is as smart alecky and funny as ever in this quick moving adventure. Couldn't put this book down - the 600-plus pages will go in a hurry. The plot is good, the characters likable (the good guys anyway)and I was sad when it was over. A great read!
Rating: Summary: Prepare to stay up late with this one. Review: Other reviewers have complained about this story because the ending does not wrap things up as neatly as some might like. When the Perry Mason TV show was on some complained because Mason never lost a case. The answer of course was "that was only on Tuesday nights" when the show aired.Mr DeMille's editors not withstanding I applaud him for not following the crowd and withstanding the probable considerable pressure for and against a stock ending. "Love ya big guy"
Rating: Summary: Great Book until the end Review: I loved this book, couldn't put it down but was extremely disappointed with the ending - very weak, almost like he (DeMille) didn't know himself what to do with it.
Rating: Summary: This was a book for his fans Review: Was this book better than Word of Honor or Gold Coast? No. But if you have read much of DeMille, or reread as I have, you have wished for a sequal. In Lion's Game, you not only got that, but also a number of little trinkets that would only be recognized and appreciated if you have read his other books. The book was an enjoyable easy read, suspenseful and yes, left open to another sequal. It will not however come in his next book which is about Vietnam. As a fan I enjoyed this book immensely as have at least a dozen DeMille fans I keep in touch with. If you are thinking of making this your first DeMille, read Gold Coast first. If you've read them all, you will appreciate this one even more.
Rating: Summary: Not His Best Review: Definitely not Demille's best, and I've read them all. Through most of the book we alternate between the Lion, and John Corey, and are privy to their every act and thought. Then, at the end, nary a peep from the Lion. Poor ending? What ending! I couldn't determine if the story really ended. And what about the killing of a character without any explanation. The good news is that it's a fast read. I too, will buy the next Demille, just to see if he made up for this one, and because he has given me so much pleasure in the past.
Rating: Summary: The ending that wasn't Review: Intriguing for about the first 300 or so pages, but then predictable and downhill from there. It seemed as if the author became bored with the story and just decided to end it...right then and there. No big climax, no wrapping up the story. John Corey's relationship with Kate Mayfield completely opposes his character's personality. Mr. tough cop, prejudiced bad guy killer turned into cheesy romantic. It just didn't work. This is my first Demille, and I did like his style enough to pick up some of his other books. I just think he missed the homerun with this one.
Rating: Summary: The lion's game Review: Hello, I was wondering if you overlooked the "Was this review helpful...yes or no?" line after my customer review. Doesn't really matter but I thought I'd bring it to your attention. Thanks. D. Taggart (review Jan.27, The Lion's Game)
Rating: Summary: Classic Demille Review: Once again Mr. Demille has kept me turning the pages with an ample supply of suspense as well as chuckles. Lion's Game does not give us the answer to the meaning of life nor will it make the world a better place. It's only a dandy entertainment. It's tailor made for a sequel and I look forward to the further adventures of John Corey.
Rating: Summary: THE LION'S GAME Review: I THOUGHT THIS BOOK WAS A GREAT SORT OF SEQUEL TO PLUM ISLAND.I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN.I HOPE THERE WILL BE A CONTUING SAGA OF JOHN COREY.IT WAS AN ABSOLUTELY GREAT READ!
