Rating: Summary: My All-Time Favorite Book by My Favorite Author Review: I didn't think Nelson DeMille would ever surpass my other favorites written by him: Word of Honor, The Gold Coast, and The General's Daughter; but he has. The Lion's Game is a book I just couldn't put down, literally. I read until 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. two nights in a row and read more during the day until I had finished it. The first chapter is the most suspenseful piece of literature I have ever read and I am an avid reader. (Thank God I am retired and thus can devote a lot of time to reading.) John Corey is one of my favorite characters in fiction and I hope Mr.DeMille brings him back again as I would like to see him and "The Lion" meet face-to-face. I don't know if he plans on doing this, but I sure would love to see it happen. "The Lion's Game" is an excellent book, well-written, full of action, and a very interesting story. His books are well worth waiting for!
Rating: Summary: Highly inventive and mostly satisfying. Review: This is the sixth Nelson Demille novel I have read, and I think it is his best told story in a while. I highly recommend about 99% of this book, but I must admit that the ending 1% left me quite a bit dissatisfied. The opening sequence is one of the most original I have come across in an action-thriller, and that alone is worth reading this book for. After such a lengthy bit of reading, however, I would have appreciated a culmination which didn't leave so many unanswered questions.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: This book is even better than Plum Island! I loved it and know that anyone who enjoys this author will think it one of his BEST! A great vacation book to read!
Rating: Summary: Middle-Of-The-Road Demille Review: Judged as a stand-alone work, The Lion's Game is a well written and enjoyable thriller. Any writer would be proud to have this novel in their published works. However, as a Demille novel, I found it somewhat tedious in parts and having a lackluster ending. Too bad, after such a promising start. I consider this an average Demille novel. I feel that he has published some that are not as good as this. On the other hand, I don't think that this story is in the same league as The Charm School, The Talbot Odyssey, or Cathedral. Still, as a loyal Demille fan, I eagerly await the next novel, hoping...
Rating: Summary: The roar ended with a meow Review: This was my second DeMille book, the first being Plum Island. Lion started out with a roar, and ended with a wha? Demille also feels it is necessary to fill our heads with an endless array of unimportant mundane facts. The ending left me saying I read 685 pages for this? Very disappointing to what could have been a very exciting book.
Rating: Summary: The Lions Game Review: I spent three days devoted to this book, and Ihaven't ejoyed anything as much. Could't put itdown. Read Plum Island, loved it, and loved thisone even more!
Rating: Summary: LOVED IT! Review: Great, great, great! The detail of Asad's mission was incredible. I especially loved reading about the training that he received. It makes me a bit nervous knowing this could happen in the US and probably will some day.John Corey is a great character. Loved him in Plum Island, too. Very funny! I hope this is not the last DeMille book he appears in.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book Review: A book with lots of suspense and humor. One of the best books I have read in a long time. Hard to put down.
Rating: Summary: Expected to be "wowed" -Demille delivers a lack-luster story Review: Like many Nelson Demille fans, I waited eagerly for his newest release. Simply stated, it's a good read but not up to his prior works. As others have noted, the story line is inconsistent: first a page-turning introduction, and then a tedious mid section. Just as the book picks up with interest again towards the end, Demille seems to lose focus and concludes with a weak and disappointing ending. Yes, Demille is a master at writing interesting characters, and he does find humor even in the midst of international terrorism -- but, Nelson, why the lack-luster finish? Some hope for a sequel, I was just hoping for a repeat of the enjoyable experience I had with some of your prior works. Here's hoping the next Demille tome stays consistently exciting from cover to cover.
Rating: Summary: Great Game for Fast Paced Reading! Review: The Lions Game is a fast paced and fun book to read! Demille has a sense of humor that shines through from start to finish without detracting from the action. Khalil makes a nemisis that one loves to hate. His cunning and plans serve as a wake up call for any real counter terror agencies. The story is fairly straight forward and is a great book for fun. Don't think this novel will make it to many 'reread' piles, but it is still worth the time it takes to finish the first time around. Some of the jokes in this book are classic. I want to tell one, but that would be spoiling too much. You'll have to read it for yourself.
