Rating: Summary: Even MORE raptors!!! Review: Even though this book was written following the success of "Jurassic Park" the movie, it's still does a fabulous job of being different and plenty scary. Jurassic Park (not the book, the site) was a disaster. Following the tragedy at the original "theme park" on Isla Nublar, the dinosaurs were killed, the establishment put to rest. All people associated with the original park are forced to sign legal papers, "gag orders" never to talk about John Hammond's BIG mistake. His dream of an amusement park dies with him and the dinosaurs he created. Fast forward a few years.... "dinosaurs" are being spotted and killed in different locations. How could this be now that the original Jurassic Park was destroyed? A feild scientist, Richard Levine believes Ian Malcolm knows the answer. Levine begs Malcolm to go on an expedition with him to Isla Sorna, where many dino-like corpses are turning up. Malcolm tells him it's a bad idea to go and refuses to be a part of any expedition UNLESS Levine can prove the corpses are truly dinosaurus. Levine travels to Isla Sorna alone and isn't heard from for days. Back in the states..a sample of dino tissue shows up at a lab and Malcolm has confirmation that Levine was telling the truth. A team constructed of Malcolm, Thorne, Eddie, and eventually Sarah Harding reach Isla Sorna in an effort to rescue Levine and return home safely. They bring along with them some incredible equipment..Explorers custom built for the terrain; double, custom built "trailers" which contain special lab equipment, and a "high hide" allowing them to view dinos from a safe point of view. All of this equipment becomes interactive within the horrors of the novel! Levine is eventually found, researching what seems to be a natural, thriving, un-fenced island of dinosaurs. They are on the island alone, maintaining their own eco-system. While this is great research for everybody on the island ...including some predatory "bad guys" from Biosyn, who show up to steal dino-eggs...Malcolm wants to leave, and you soon realize Malcolm is right! What's really fantastic about this book is discovering the truth about the first "Jurassic Park" and why this "Site B" exists in the first place. Chrichton won't disappoint. This book and it's plot are quite different from the first. A tip: if you are reading the books in order and watching the movies after...you will be very confused! Hollywood alters the books drastically to make it less "scientific" and more fun and action-packed. The books are better and extremely educational...read both first, THEN see the movies after.
Rating: Summary: Great Read Review: This book is a great sequel to JP and has a great storyline. Too bad I read it before Jurassic Park ( not really my fault.Saw it at school bookfair and had to buy it because I loved the movie )...This book had action and edge of your seat suspense and I wish the film was as good. My only complaint is that Crichton spent too much time on chaos theory. In a six page chapter took me a school day to read because it was so boring. Besides that fact the book is great.
Rating: Summary: Simply Amazing! Review: Well, I just loved this book. It had lots of action and suspense. I would stay awake until 12:30 each night just reading the book because I wasn't able to put it down. It was a perect continuation to Jurrasic Park (another great book). Despite a few dull moments at the beginning, overall it kept my attention throughout the entire book. I would reccomend it to all readers. :)
Rating: Summary: THE LOST WORLD LIVES UP TO ITS COUNTERPART!! Review: I never thought Crighton could do it again, but this book is every bit as good as "Jurassic Park". What a sequal! Here I go again...The movie does not even compare! Do not be put off by the movie! If you haven't read Jurassic Park, read it first before you read this one, you will appreciate it more. After reading boths books in this series I can say the only disappointment is at the ending of the "Jurassic Park" book .... I was alittle surprised when Crighton never addressed this in the beginning of the "Lost World", what a fantastic story that would make. Aside from that, read this book, you will not be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: Much better than the movie Review: While not as good a novel as Jurassic Park, this book is 1000 times better than the movie adaptation (if you can even call it that) It's a good read, the ending seems a bit uninspired, but this book kept me in suspense for the better part of a day. If you like Jurassic park (or other Crichton books) you should read this one too
Rating: Summary: The lost world is ........GREAT Review: In this novel by the great Michael Crichton, a crew goes on a rescue mission to find their friend that they think needs help on an island full of dinosaurs. Well, their friend doesn't and they are trapped. Will they Survive?..... A good book. It introduces new dinosaurs and theories of extinction. Let a 10+ year old read this because it is scary at some parts and there is bad language in it. It is good for dinosaur fans and it is very educational.
Rating: Summary: Tis a sad tale Review: I still can't figure out why Steven Spielberg did not follow the book in Jurassic Park and Lost World! If he did, the movies would have been alot better. Anyways, Lost World is very very good. Continues alot the same as Jurassic Park, kinda same characters and so forth and so on. Story very very good, I couldn't put this one down.
Rating: Summary: Michael Crichton is an artist with words and worlds Review: This could have been a formula book and maybe the skeleton is formula. Toss in people with different personalities and backgrounds. Isolate them and let them act and react to real and imagined dangers. That is where the parallel ends. The book comes up with excellent theories and speculation. The characters vary differently than you would guess under stress. And there is a cliffhanger about every five pages with does not give you much time to get your breath. The descriptions of the environment give you enough details to get a good mental picture of what is going on. He does not over describe things to the point that you fall asleep listing to irrelevant details. This story is full of thrills; great questions and holds your attention to the end.
Rating: Summary: So good it's SCARY!!! Review: This book was wonderful. The movie didn't follow the book's storyline by any means at all, and I was sick when I saw it. The book had such an interesting plot, and I couldn't put it down. The main characters of the book don't even make it to the movie version (Dodgson??). I think that the book was awesome, but the movie was an insult. Thanks alot Speilberg.
Rating: Summary: Selling out for Hollywood Review: If you loved the first book (as I did), you may [not like] this one. This book was clearly written as a sequel to the film and not the original book. The characters here include survivors from the film who had died in the book and [mirror images] of the others. This book was released quickly after the success of the film, which also says a lot...If you can overcome the Return of the Living Dead and great reasoning overturned, then go ahead and buy the book...Just watch the movie, that was the intended product anyway.
