Rating: Summary: The Metallic Screech Review: The Lost World was the first Crichton that I read. I was hooked on it after reading an exerpt in Time Magazine below an article on the gifted author. This is the book that started my love for reading. While growing up, I only loved one kind of book, the one's that belonged to a series known as "The Sugar Creek Gang." Quite the sad puppy, but that was my reading extent as far as enjoyment. Then "The Lost World" came along. After begging my mother and cradling it like a baby, she finally broke down and bought it placing it beneath the Christmas tree with my name on it. For the next two years I was a lost world nut, until shortly after it's video release. I had it bad. I would clip the logo out of cereal boxes and had a poster of a t-rex big enough to wallpaper a ten foot wall.I say all of that to say this: The Lost World is still to this day a great, and dark addition to the Jurassic Park saga. Unfortunately, the film does not compare. If you have waited on reading it because of the film's estranged impression's, then do not any longer, my friend. You may be surprised at how deep into the darkness and foliage you go. It's not cheapened to satisfy and admit the teenage audience.
Rating: Summary: Stuck on an Island Review: The Lost World. What do you think of when you see this title? --An island has been secluded from the presence of humans. The island is inhabited by creatures that are unlike any other on Earth. The creatures are dinosaures. They have evolved behaviors unlike any that scientists could have imagined. The dinosaurs' behaviors are derived purely by instincts. A group of scientists visit the island for an expedition. They attempt to study the dinosaurs at a safe distance. Things don't go as planned. They miss their helicopter flight, which was to take them home; a problem arises. How do they get off the island?
Rating: Summary: a rarity -- better than the first! Review: Now questions that the first left untouched are answered. The book is so much better than the lame movie, and there are more characters(real ones, not dino lunch add-ins) too. The plot is more streamlined, the characters deeper, and dinosaurs smarter. The book starts off in the intro, not just the prologue. For some reason, rotting dinosaur carcasses have been washing up in Costa Rica, around the same time as a msterious encephalitus breakout. Also, Dr. Malcolm (who denies jurassic park ever existed) discovers an aquantance found a second island and went there. He must go rescue him, no matter how annoying he is. I highly recomend this book to anyone who loves a good adventure story.
Rating: Summary: One of the best books ever written. Review: The lost world is an excellent book for advanced readers. It has action, suspence and enough pages for a five-hour car trip. It will keep you on the edge of your seat. It is a very good science-fiction book. It's hard to stop reading it. It is also a good book for dinosaur-lovers,but it's too advanced for 8 and 9 year olds.
Rating: Summary: Sequel not equal, but still fun enough to read. Review: Make no mistake about it, The Lost World was written simply to make a huge amount of money for its author. Lots of mayhem and narrow escapes, but it feels forced and contrived. The characters reaction to the dinos is listless and, unless directly in harms way, almost emotionless. Still when Crichton does whip out the teeth and claws it's a fairly exciting waste of time, just not the experience of the first book. Recommended only to the addicted dino and/or monster movie fan.
Rating: Summary: More dinosaur action Review: This book was a great book because it was one of the books that got me interested in reading. I read it in 7th grade almost 5 years ago. When a kid is beginning to explore the realm of books and they get a terrible book it may turn them away for a long time. I was lucky to choose this book. When I first read it I hadn't read Jurassic Park so I wasn't looking for it to be a sequel in any way. Now that I've read the prequel let me say that it is kinda weird about Ian Malcom not dying. Didn't they almost totally destroy Isla Nublar? Anyway. Don't let the movie influence your decision to read the book because the movie was terrible in my opinion. The book is great and has none of that crap about a T-Rex rampaging through a city.
Rating: Summary: Michael Crichton's The Lost World Review: The Lost World is a great book, and even though it was a little confusing at times, it was still very good. It has Ian Malcolm from JP, Sarah Harding, the kids Kelly and Arby, and lots more. The book is very different than the movie, but I can tell what things I saw and what I didn't. I really liked the movie, so I decided to get the book. It would be the movie that I could carry around with me and stop to read it any time I wanted. So get this book!!!
Rating: Summary: Crichton sells out Review: Let me first say that JP is one of my favorite books and I'm a huge Crichton fan. Given that, I have to say that The Lost World was a huge disappointment for me. It is clear that as a book, it makes a helluva good action film. That's about all there is here. He obviously wrote this book just to sell the movie rights. There's plenty of thrilling action here but all of the magic storytelling of Jurassic Park is gone. The characters are flat and the plot was alot more original when it was done 65 years ago in King Kong. The book is basically a script for the movie, if you've seen it don't bother reading it.
Rating: Summary: How much more can we take? Review: JP was a hard book to follow in my opinion but Michael Crichton managed to pack as much suspense into this sequel as JP. I only gave it four stars though because although the book was very well written and extremely scary, even though I hadn't seen the second movie, I guessed what was going to happen before turning each page. It was as if the story was predictable from the start. I have no idea if other people felt the same way as me. All I know is, when reading JP, I was bouncing around all over the place. The Lost World, although an excellent story, wasn't as gripping to me. I still recommend you read this book. Especially if you're just a Crichton fan.
Rating: Summary: The Lost World Review: While Jurrassic Park, also by Michael Crichton was one of the most original and highly enjoyable books i have read, i felt that The Lost World, although containing some new ideas was basically just a re-tread of the first book. Both books contain main heros (Grant/Malcolm) both contain children (Lex and Tim/Arby and Kelly) the strong female role (Sattler/Harding) and the villain (Nedry/Dodgeman). This book did however contain some interesting views of Crichton's that were not included in JP. His well renouned Cinematicly visual and amazingly well researched style make for an interesting and enjoyable read and there are many points were you forget that you have read the same thing once before. Overall a not all together original but still enjoyable read!
