Summary: Fun Book
Review: The book was better then the movie even without the visuals you get on the big screen. In my opinion this is really this authors best area, action packed fiction. You always get a gook book from this author and he delivered with this one. I know the book is the next in line and written just to get a new movie out, but the book is an old fashion page-turner. If you are looking for fiction to keep your mind of heavy topics then this book is a good one to start with. It is light, easy to read and moves fast. The story is developed and fun. This guy does not write heavy, noble prices worthy work, just fast passed fun.

Summary: A Descent Sequel
Review: After reading The Lost World I would say it was a good read if you enjoyed Jurassic Park. It isn't as good as the first dino novel written by Crichton, but it is a very descent sequel. It features Ian Malcolm who is a returning character from the first novel. Even though Crichton supposedly killed him at Jurassic Park I found his tale of resurrection believible, considering how the media is this day and age. I have always believed that a book is better than the movie that is made after it, and I would agree that this novel is better the movie version. I found the characters Arby and Levine to be enjoyable and amuzing, and after reading the book I wish they were included in the motion picture. If you like dinosaurs, science, or anything Crichton writes, you should find that this novel has something you will enjoy.

Summary: Ian Malcolm to the end!!!
Review: I liked this book a lot, and that's mainly because Ian Malcolm(my favorite character) is a lot more main in this book than in Jurassic Park, and he's really funny, but it's still a really good book. The plot is more move-ish but still has the qualities of a great novel, adventure, action,(Ian Malcolm :) ), and some mystery...
A great read!!

Summary: Not as good as the first, but still a grat rea
Review: Strange animals have been found in Costa Rica, animals that are burnt to remove evidence of their existence. Dr. Ian Malcolm is called upon to return to a world that he thought he would never have to face again. This time they are traveling to Site B, a second set of InGen labs, a place where the infant dinosaurs were hatched and then raised before they were released into Jurassic Park. For years the dinosaurs have been living in a natural environment, with no fences and no men - this is their home and humans enter at their own risk.

The movie that was based on this novel was pretty close, but the book is even better. On site B the animals are completely wild and most of them have never had any interactions with humans. Into this wild landscape comes Ian Malcolm and Sara Harding. As with the first novel it is interesting that Crichton decided to include children as part of the main cast of characters. It is also interesting that in both novels the children end up partially saving the day.

If you decide to read this novel then put aside the movie and read the novel for the sake of reading the novel. If you have not read Jurassic Park (only seen the movie) then don't worry because you should still be able to enjoy the story. I have read this book twice and still enjoyed it the second time around. I would recommend this book if you liked the movies and if you liked Jurassic Park the book.

Summary: WOW!wow wow wow wow wow wow wow!
Review: I loved this book. It was an on the edge of your seat book. I believe they could pull the dinosaur thing off. I am 10 years old and in g.a.t.e. Crichton writes so realisticly. I really enjoyed it.

Summary: Boring
Review: Crichton may have a view of the world, but must he go on and on about and talk with all these terms that not everyone understands?

The story is okay, but Crichton spends too much time explaining things with technical terms and what not. This book would be better off in the non-fiction pile with the title of "Michael Chrichton's View of Evolution!"

It's been a while since I read it, and it's sure never to leave the bookshelf on my accord.

Summary: Michael Crichton Mails It In...
Review: I love Michael Crichton. He's one of my 4 favorite authors (Tom Clancy, Stephen King, and Jack Higgins being the other 3). And Jurassic Park is probably my all-time favorite novel of his. It's exciting, mysterious, filled with almost a childlike sense of wonder. I mean, let's be honest. How many of us as young boys didn't dream of actually seeing a real dinosaur?

But with The Lost World, it looks like Michael Crichton has bowed to the will of the movie studio. Whereas Jurassic Park had a very logical, well-paced storyline with lots of action and real fear, The Lost World is a weak story with a contrived plot to get people back to an island populated with dinosaurs that immediately start to chase and kill them like before.

Don't get me wrong, the story is written in Michael Crichton's typically solid style, but the story is really weak and seems just an excuse for another dinosaur book. And was I the only person that read the ending and thought 'What happened?'. I mean, the characters were in deep trouble, chased once again by Velociraptors, and suddenly, they find a way off the island and the book ends. None of the events that got them off the island (or only just enough so the book wouldn't simply end). In my opinion, you know the author is simply ready to end a book when he falls back to a short narrative that basically says 'the characters found a secret way off the island and got away. The End.'

I'm sorry, but I would have expected better from Michael Crichton. Instead of a forced sequel to Jurassic Park, he should either have come up with another unrelated story (which he's typically very good at doing), or taken a bit more time to come up with an original sequel. Following up on the events referred to at the end of Jurassic Park where some dinosaurs had obviously escaped to the mainland comes to mind...

Bottom line, if you have to have a bit more of Jurassic Park (like I did), read the book. But don't expect it to live up to its predecessor. Oh, and don't expect this story to have much at all to do with the movie by the same name. They're almost totally different.

Summary: The Lost World - Michael Crichton
Review: The Lost World is a great book. It has a lot of suspense with twists and turns in the plot all the time. I believe the best parts where when you were hinted that something bad was going to happen. I also liked the creative ways the characters outsmarted the dinosaurs and got away from them.

Summary: At least he didn't write a third!
Review: That's the only thing to be thankful for. The third movie was a straight action-thriller with none of the pseudo-cerebalism of two. The book is a slightly different story. It is obviously a vehicle for making another movie, as it lacks the complex plot devices and technical details that are so rich in Crighton's other books. The characters are fairly well developed, but again, not as rich as in other works (especially Sphere). The book has good pacing and elegant detailing, but it isn't up to the standards I set for the author. If you're a diehard fan, get the book. Otherwise, check out others like Sphere or Airframe.
