Summary: Too many trite characters, slow moving and predicable story.
Review: Action finally starts, can you believe, half way through the book. After reading Jurassic Park, I was really looking forward this novel - but it is so disappointing & boring! There are too many uninteresting characters in the book, and you're kept waiting, waiting and waiting for something (anything!) to happen. Recommendations - don't bother with the book, just wait for movie to come out. Hopefully, it will be better

Summary: Pretty good
Review: I'm Crichton's biggest fan. I've read all his books and seen all the film adaptations. Jurassic Park was indeed great, and the film was exceptional even though it though it varied alot from the text. Lost World wasn't as good because it is a sequel and not as original. However the book does offer a lot that its predecessor didn't. It does get a little gimmicky but so what? I'm looking forward to the film but I'm also nervous. I was appaulled by the film version of Congo. They absolutely destroyed the book. But I don't think Spielberg would let that happen. I think we should give Crichton credit for attempting a sequel in the first place. Not many authors today do that.

Summary: Exciting improvement on Jurrassic Park
Review: After reading Independence day and Discovery at Rosswell I really thought that Michael Crichton had lost the iniative to others in his writing peer group. How wrong can you be?With a twelve year old son called Alexander, who is a much tougher critic than myself, we tend to share books and then review them ourselves and compare our critiques. If a sign of a good book is the ability to " engage " the reader emotionally then this book certainly scores a 10/10.The pace, suspense criteria and excitement are all professionaly gauged to give maximum enjoyment. In conclusion, this book managed to drag my son away from his latest computer games, videos and other leisure pursuits. It also contributed to a project that he had to do for his schhol which gained an A grade.Michael Crichton proves the old adage:If you write for Kings then you'll eat with peasants, however if you write for peasants then you'll eat with Kings.Great escapism - Thank You.John Evan-JonesManagement Psychologis

Summary: Defense of a great book!
Review: The Lost World was a great book that I truly enjoyed! The qualities so admired in the characters in JP such as feminine strength, intelligence, and creativity still merit respectful regard when found in LW. The similarities in character and plot do not necessarily imply a lack of creativity. In fact LW is a logical and essential conclusion to ideas introduced in JP. The development of Malcolm's character reveals the shift in emphasis from scientific theory to humanity. This move from the scientific realm to the philosophical is accompanied by a deep discussion of the nature of humanity as demonstrated through the development of the characters and the evolution of Nature. The Lost World is a thought-provoking and enjoyable book in its own right as should be viewed as such!

Summary: Good book, same plot and characters
Review: It is a pretty interesting book with all of the usual dinosaurs but, it has the basic cast of characters. Ian Malcom is back but he gets hurt again as in the first book, there is another strong heroin who is very simliar to the one in J.P. Again, there are two kids who happen to come along again and as always and they are smart and good with computers, and there is the bad guy who comes along and starts to make everything go haywire as before. It still is an interesting book and fun to read I just wish it was more orginal the the first

Summary: Terrible Piece of Trash
Review: I've read everything Michael Crichton has written and enjoyed every book until I read this sophomoric piece of trash. My theory is that Speilberg's people told Crichton that there'd be another book and movie as a sequel to Jurassic Park. Crichton could either write the book and then they'd make a movie about it or they'd make the movie and some hack would adapt it into a book. Two things were fascinating about Jurassic Park. One: the theory behind cloning extinct creatures, you had to ask yourself will we be able to do that some day. And, two: the way the "perfect world" came apart at the seams as Man in his infinite hubris thought he could engineer and control a chaotic system. There was none of that in this book, merely one prehistoric cliffhanger after another. C'mon after you read about one person getting eaten or mauled by a cretacean refugee you've read 'em all. No doubt these no stop action scenes will translate well to the big screen but they really made for boring and predictable reading.

Summary: Page turner, but a bit shallow. It preaches.
Review: I'm a big fan of Crichton and have read most of his books. I really liked Jurassic Park and think the movie was pretty good too. This book has been written to make another movie and another small fortune. The book it a real page turner, but bogs down in detail, philosophy, and is clearly just a sequal - there's not much new, just lots of back to back narrow escapes. It's a good read on a long bus ride, but not that memorable

Summary: It was wonderful!
Review: I don't know what people are talking about when they say this is a "pitiful rehash" of JP. It's really good for a long road trip. I wouldn't say it was better than Crichton's other book "Sphere," though.

Summary: Awesome!
Review: Michael's done it this time! This book is FILLED with action, suspense, and thrills. The suspence is stretched out for a long time and then POP BANG BOOM! It explodes with action that leaves you in the dust! It would have gotten a ten but he put a little too much philosophy and stuff in it--but don't worry about that! The action makes up for it
