Rating: Summary: Crichton bests JP Review: In many ways, "The Lost World" follows a formula that was laiddown in "Jurassic Park." But it is also an improvement. Whereas JPwas concerned with the ethical ramifications of biotechnology, the sequel focuses on issues in modern evolutionary theory. Through the character Ian Malcom, Crichton suggests that there is more to heredity than genes. This novel is somewhat tamer than JP, but the continual scene shifts keep up the suspense. It's too bad that Spielberg just wanted to remake "Jaws" with dinosaurs.
Rating: Summary: ooops! i only hope "Airframe" will be better... Review: That was one major disappointment. it's a screenplay, and aboutas interesting and surprising as the one of the movie "IndependenceDay". I guess you could skip every second page without missing anything of importance. if you've never read one of Crichton's books before, you might find this one to be sort of ok - otherwise it's just a simple and cheap piece of making even more money.
Rating: Summary: Chrichton performs a masterpiece Review: The Lost world is one of the greatest novels I have everread. The hole book is so well written that you can actually imaginewhat the movie looks like when you read the novel. It's a fact that this book containes more blood and more of the T-rex, and that is brilliant. What I reatcted on in Jurassic Park was that the whole story was to weak and meant to younger children. I cheared in my bed as I read the last few pages when the T-rex feeds Dodgson to his kids. Chrichton has produced a true masterpiece. David Bergman Kalix, Sweden
Rating: Summary: shame on you Michael Crichton Review: With terrific works like "The Andromida Strain", "Rising Sun"(my favorite), and "Jurassic Park", how could you succumb to writingthe most dissapointing book since I don't know what?!!! It appears Hollywood advanced you $ to write a quick and dirty sequel to J.P. I've come to expect that kind of writing from S. King andJ. Grishom ( the most overrated author around today), but Michael, Michael, I'm SO dissapointed in you - you're too good an author to write this boring screenplay.
Rating: Summary: Good job Mike, it was a good book. Review: The Lost World was great. I finished it the day berore I saw the movie, and the movie totally paled in comparison(what was Steve thinking?). The only minor flaw was the extensive summaries of all of the extinction theories
Rating: Summary: Crichton Adapts Jurassic Park for Younger Audiences Review: Michael Crichton's first dinosaur novel, Jurassic Park, was awonderful, terrifying book. The research and time put into JP made itwonderful. His second foray into the world of cloned dinosaurs was much less original. Rather than take the approach of the first novel, which was very "scientific" and plausible, he opted to write a screenplay treatment in novel form. The book was quite enjoyable, but it reads like a junior adaptation of Jurassic Park. As I read The Lost World, I found myself slightly disappointed in the lack of "scientific" detail. What was there seemed out of place in this B-grade monster movie book. Fortunately, Crichton is a skilled writer, and made this novel worth reading. Just be warned that it is a simpler, easier read than JP or Congo.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't Put It Down Review: This was my first Crichton novel and it will not be my last. Icouldn't put it down and read for 6 hours straight. It was verydifferent from the movie but I loved it just as much. At first I did not understand all of the complex theories involved but now I do. It is definitely worth reading.
Rating: Summary: I would rather read Jurassic Park again! Review: Unfortunately, it seems like his success in Hollywood hasaffected his writing ability. The creativity and suspense present ina Case of Need, Jurassic Park, Andromeda Strain, Congo, Sphere, Terminal Man, and Rising Sun is no where to be found in the Lost World. This book was written for Hollywood, and it smells, tastes, and reads like it. Mike is one of the best pop-fiction writers out there, but this book is far from proving it. Mike if you ever read this, here is a suggestion - stick to your roots. And don't give in to Hollywood. So far Hollywood has only compromised your greatness. And tell your buddy Steven to stop changing the plot everytime he makes one of your books into a movie. It's annoying!
Rating: Summary: Short and sweet review Review: Brilliant! That's all I can say. The film is not as good as the book this time
Rating: Summary: Obviously a screenplay Review: What a disappointment! JURRASIC PARK was much scarier and better written. This is obviously meant to be a screenplay, complete with the cute, precocious stowaway kids. As I was reading it, I could visualize how Speilburg would set up the scenes. Forget the book and see the movie. If you want to read a good book about dinosaurs other than JP, read RAPTOR RED by Robert Bakker
