Rating: Summary: Oh yes he is dead Review: Oh, the prologue. The doctors did a wonderful job onhim. Yeah, yeah, yeah. WHO FOUND HIM????? HOW DID HE GET OF ANISLAND THAT WAS OBLITERATED OFF THE MAP, UNASSISTED, BECAUSE EVERYONE WHO SURVIVED ESCAPED BY HELICOPTER?!?!?! AFT\ER HE'D BEEN CHEWED UP BY A T-REX???? I contend that Crighton wrote a sequel to his MOVIE JURASSIC PARK, and not his NOVEL. There is a difference. Read and think for yourselves, do not simply accept what is spoon-fed to you by a (now) Hollywood writer.
Rating: Summary: It's a toss-up Review: Many books tend to be let-downs if they are published assequels. Unfortunately this is one of them.Lost World is notTHAT bad; just that it had a hard act to follow. Jurassic Park had huge success because it was ground-breaking. The discovery of a "new" island is a little too convient, though. The plot is hard to believe because nothing about it is mentioned in Jurassic Park. It seems to me that Mr. Crichton was looking for a way to continue his book, and he did so. However, he could have done a little better with the opening and it's exposition. Do not get me wrong here. It is a fairly decent book. However, if you are looking for another Jurassic Park-style, ground-breaking event. You will have to look elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: Ian is not dead. Crichton says so! Review: For all you people who say that Ian died, maybe. But who should know better then the person who wrote the book. If he says that Malcolm didn't die, he didn't die. You must have misunderstood him, and you should brush up on your reading comprehension.
As far as the book goes, I think it was excellent. Probably not better then JP, but that was an excellent book. This book was somewhat a little lighter in a way, and was very readable. The only complaints I have are that 1. The action takes a little while to develop. And 2. Malcolm's ramblings get a little too long winded sometimes. Other than that. READ THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: Great and ACTION PACKED Review: The LOST WORLD is another thriller from MICHAELCRICHTON. Remember IAN MALCOM from JURASSIC PARK?, well, he's back andhe has brought some friends. Ian, Doc Thorne, Eddie Carr, and two stowaways venture to the island to find dinos??? It's a little close to the first book but it is still a great book. The movie ventures way too far from the book to actually be titled the LOST WORLD but is also a good movie. By the way, my sources tell me that M.C. is working on a third book that is based on before JURASSIC PARK and is planning on writing a fourth book picking up where the book THE LOST WORLD left off. Hmmm.......
Rating: Summary: Awful Review: JP was mediocre, but this is awful. It is nothing but a dreadful screenplay for an idiotic movie. Both were a complete waste of time and money. This is a shame because both Mr. Crichton and Mr. Spielberg are capable of such genius
Rating: Summary: A rare loser from Crichton Review: A real yawner of a book. The plot is paper-thin, and was heldtogether by the frequent random and senseless acts of dinosaur-humanviolence. The characters of Arby and Kelly were clearly stuck in to provide fodder for the sequel movie. There is absolutely no character development to be found. Just like the "Jurassic Park" film, this book ends in a feel-good ride into the sunset away from the carnage on the Isle of Dinosaurs. How trite. Dr. Crichton's periodic segues about chaos theory and his frequent interspersals of dinosaur science were indeed interesting, as his forays into such territory always are. However, they did not make up for the obvious vapidity of the plot. And the reviewer who said that this is better than Neal Stephenson's "The Diamond Age" is clearly on crack. :-)
Rating: Summary: Fell a Little Short as a Sequel Review: This book was definitely not as good as its predecessor. You have to wait until about half way through the book before it has any real gripping action. It is as different from the movie as night and day though. I actually enjoyed both once I got over the fact that the movie was not actually made anything like the book. The movie actually seemed to be pieces of both the first book this book and episodes of Godzilla movies. So if you enjoyed the movie you must read this book. Its like reading a whole different story
Rating: Summary: Michael Crichton is in his own little Lost World Review: This will be short folks: Michael Crichton started a downwards spiral as a writer when he wrote Rising Sun. Don't get me wrong, that's a great book, but he started writing trash novels that really aren't worthwhile and seem to be ready to be made into a movie. The book was ok, the movie was worse. I think if the movie had followed the book, it would have been ok. As for the book, it's hopeless. Crichton needs to come back from whatever planet he's been on and start writing great stuff again. He needs to realize he's writing a novel, not a script
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK IS 100 BETTER THAN JURASSIC PARK Review: I simply do not understand why some people say that this book is bad, I read it 2 times and I still love it.
Look, I'm going to tell you why those people who hate this book are wrong.
1. They say that Ian is dead, and I tell them : READ THE PROLOGUE!!!!!! don't you see that he says that he wasn't dead, and that the surgeons had made a marvelous work with him?, he didn't died in Jurassic Park, the people thought he was dead, but apparently somebody found him alive.
2. They say that it is a copy of Jurassic Park, I have to ask them why they think such Stupid things, I read JP a long time ago, but if I remember correctly, the only thing in common with JP is that Ian gets badly hurt, because, JP has a velocirraptor persecution of the jeep? NO. JP has a velocirraptor attack to some place like a tower?NO, is The Lost world ending a copy of JP ending? NO. The Lost World has more action scenes that JP? NO. This book of 456 pages has less that half the book with action.
3. Some people say that Ian Malcom's theories are boring. I have to tell them that Ian's theories are vital to this book, because, Ian always solves the Problem, they question something and Ian's theories (wich are interesting) always hit the point, Also if Michael Crichton wouldn't had putted in Ian Malcom's theories, the people who read it could say :"Ahh, this is a pile of crap!, It can't happen", Steven Spielberg said:(Excuse me if I am wrong translating it from Spanish)
"He has the richier imagination I ever knew. And he supports his fantasies in contemporaneous technique of such realism that he is capable of making the reader believes everything".
So combining this with the works of the people wich contribued with his novel (At the end of the book) he can make something that the readers say :"Hey, this could be true".
I could go on, but I'm getting tired, and I think that With these examples I have established my point of view, but before I stop writing, Trust a teenager (Me) and Buy it, you won't be disappointed, and see the movie they are both marvelous pieces of work.
Rating: Summary: Typical of Crighton a page turner all the way Review: Micheal crighton really knows how to blend science fact withscience fiction. It makes him one of the better writers out there.
