Summary: A well written sequal, great from cover to cover!
Review: This book was great! By far the most suspensful, page-turning, and action-packed story I've ever read. The dinosaurs were great. It is not a copy of JP. It has great text and great detail. And to those who think Ian Malcome is dead READ THE PROLOGUE!!!!!!!

Summary: The Lost World was a Re-Engineering of Classic SF
Review: Like Dodgson, Chricton believed heavily in reverse engineering. In writing this novel, he "borrowed" many themes and ideas from the classic dinosaur adventure novel with the same title, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Chricton also reused many concepts made popular in his Jurassic Park. He seems to have reverse engineered that novel in order to discover what made it so popular. All that works in Jurassic Park also conveniently appears in The Lost World. However, Chricton did a decent job of preserving the Doyle's classic tale and prevented extinction. Chrichton had to adapt the story in order to please the mindless visually dependent Nintendo generation, therefore it is not as creative as Doyle's novel. Yet, it is an exciting read and cannot do you any harm. Also check out Lost World II by Marcio Souza. All of the sources mentioned will make your viewing experience of The Lost World (1997) movie a success!

Summary: This is what I thought about the Lost World
Review: I thought it was a great book, very fast paced and suspenceful. The great detail in which he describes each and every scene never left you thinking about what this part may look like. It also included some great facts and ideas about dinosaurs. The only thing I didn't like about it was that one of the doctors (Dr. Malcolm, Dr. Levine) may start talking about biology or dinosaurs for at least a page and although it was interesting it got a bit boring.

Summary: 100% Cool!
Review: Crichton has created another impressive novel. The characters are great, the dinosaurs are cool, and the carnotaur-chameleon thing was really creative. Tell those people who called it slop that they have bad taste for me, okay?

Summary: A Fine Sequel
Review: This book was only OK. It had everything I was looking for in the sequel to Jurassic Park, but it was not spectacular. It overemphasized velociraptors like the first one and only had the obligatory scenes that were to be expected. I lacked nothing, but it did not add anything surprising.

Summary: Yuck! Phooey!
Review: The only reason this book was written was to obtain royalties for the movie sequel. Same plot as the previous book with the same vapid characters, with predictable and boring story. New characters in story were obviously put there only for dinosaur snacks.

Summary: Mixed feelings
Review: I have read this book two times to try and decide if I like it or hate it. Jurassic Park is one of my favorite Michael Crichton books. But I found The Lost World to be merely a rewrite. There are basically the same characters in the two books: the big hero, (Grant, Malcom) the strong woman, (Sattler, Harding) the kids, (Lex & Tim, Kelly & Arby), and the anti-hero (Nedry, Dodgson). However, this book does contain some original ideas and has it's great moments. (The ending when the raptors are coming in the building is full of imagery-I could feel them coming in!) So, I don't love it, yet I don't hate it. I suggest reading it for yourself and finding out.

Summary: Great book, not as hooking
Review: I loved this book, it is the sequel to Jurassic Park. It was not as hooking, but still good. If you have seen the movie, this is a totally different story!!

Summary: Crichton's worst book yet!
Review: I can't believe I wasted my money buying this book. It was absolutely terrible! The original Jurassic Park was wonderful, but this should never have made it past the editor's desk. It was sloppy, poorly written, and lacked depth. It was clearly made with a movie in mind. Crichton should have just skipped the book and gone straight for the movie. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS BOOK!
