Rating: Summary: I can't believe this thing was published!!! AGH! Review: In the movie "Scream 2" the characters talked about how sequels screw things up. The characters must have read The Lost World. I love Crichton's novels but this story leaks inconsitancy in it's science. Apparently it's a good thing those Costa Rica officials decided not to bury Malcolm at the end of the first book because HE'S BAAAAACK!! What am I supposed to do with this thing? Let's take a look at this plot: -Malcolm makes a lot of speeches about a new revised Chaos Theory -He and two kids (obvious) go to a convenient island where there are Jurassic Park dinosaurs (obvious too) they run around, Malcolm says "I told you so" a lot, Bad guys get eaten, everyone goes home. I don't even see what the ending is. What's been solved here? Spielberg didn't put much into the movie, Crichton didn't put much into the novel. The whole concept is just a coaster for cash.
Rating: Summary: This book was a great book. Review: This book was a wonderful book.It was very intersting where it described all the charcters. This book had a problem after problem after problem and that is the kind of book I like. I like this book because it told a lot of information about the different dinosaurs and animals. It gave true facts while it was telling the story. One thing I am amanzed about is that it felt like the story was true.It sounded so real that it could happen right now. For a moment I read it, I felt as if I was in the book.
Rating: Summary: If you haven't seen the movie, don't. Review: This book lives up to Crichton's level of story telling. It held my interest throughout, unlike Jurassic Park where I was bored for the first hundred pages. I think the resurrection of Malcolm was fitting for this story. In my opinion, you can't tell a JP story without Ian Malcolm. After reading The Lost World, I went to see the movie. I believe there was a Godzilla preview before hand. I felt like I was watching Godzilla by the end, when the T-Rex went walking down the streets. I was disappointed in all respects. I couldn't believe I was watching a Steven Spielberg movie. For your time and money, the book is a much better story.
Rating: Summary: action packed, a can't put down book Review: I have read your book "THE LOST WORLD" and it wasnt anything like the movie. I liked that all the bad guys died and how Dodgson was killed by the t-rex so gruesomly. In the book, there were two kids,Arby and Kelly. The best part was when the raptors got Arby and led the team of people to the NEST. But you made them go the hard way. I also read "EATERS OF THE DEAD". That book wasa good too. So now I am reading sphere and I am sure that it will be a great book. But it probably will be because all your good books become movies.
Rating: Summary: Didn't live up to my expectations compared to Jurassic Park Review: In the end of Jurassic Park, there were many ways that Micheal Crichton could have taken the next book, for example the embryos in London, the mysterious animals in South America eating lysine rich foods, etc..... I had my hopes up for this book, even bought it in hardcover. but I was disappointed and found it not worth the money I paid for the hardcover. I also found that the second movie, The Lost World, picked up a lot that wasn't covered in Jurassic Park. The very beginning, for example, and the existence of the compys. I was just plain let down with this book.
Rating: Summary: This is not fit to be called a Jurassic Park sequel Review: If you have not read Jurassic Park, are looking for a great dinosaur book, and just happen to have The Lost World sitting around then pick it up and get ready for a wonderful adventure. If, on the other hand, you have read Jurassic Park and are ready for a great sequel to this great masterpiece then forget it, there isn't one. I give it a seven because it is a very fine book, but it is just not worthy to be linked to Jurassic Park. Both movies, by the way, are just pathetic when compared with the books.
Rating: Summary: Crichton's Novel (Screenplay?) could have been better. Review: Crichton continues his butchering of both Chaos Theory and paleontology, but I can get over that. I got used to it in Jurassic Park, which was spectacular, though was Lost World a novel or a screenplay? You can see Crichton devolving into writing with the intent of having another blockbuster movie produced instead of writing to tell a story. As an amateur writer I detest this. But hey, this is still a great novel. The characters this time around seem not like the shallow characters of most of his previous novels. Instead they seem more like movie characters. They're not quite so shallow but I still didn't care too much if they lived or died. In fact, I cared a little less. The characters may have been thicker but the plot supporting them seemed shallower. Crichton should stick to his old style of writing. This was too contrived and sped up. Lost World could have easily been twice as long as it was. It was too jumbled. The good things: great action, awesome excitement, and characters that make up for the loss of plot (sort of). Read it, as it shows the transition of Crichton from real novelist to screenplay writer.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME!!! Review: I have read all of Michael Crichton's books and this did not let me down in the least. Although I have to admit that the book is a thousand times better than the movie. I got the book 2 days after it came out and read it cover to cover in 2 days. I recommend this book to anyone! The movie did it no justice what so ever. Hollywood needs to give it up, leave it on paper, not the big screen.
Rating: Summary: The movie robbed MC readers of a REALLY GREAT BOOK!!! Review: Turn off the VCR, put down the remote now run out and buy the book!!! The book has more characters that didn't crossover into the movie and robs you of a great story. It's a must read and will keep you engrossed. Call the office, phone in sick...Read this book!!! Michael Crichton Rules!!!
