Rating: Summary: Did Crichton even write this??? Review: I can't believe the different reviews this book has gotten. Half are one star and half are five. I cannot believe that anyone who read JP would rate this book above 1 star. I am picturing a "book factory" populated by college students all contributing chapters to this book while Mr. Crichton peeks in once in a while to see how it is going. It's a re-hash, predictable, boring. Yes, the movie stunk but look where it got its start. Go get Eaters of the Dead or one of his older books before you waste your time with this one.
Rating: Summary: GRRR-EAT! Review: Definitely WORTH reading. I liked it better then the original, although it might be because I read this one first. I read all how-many-odd pages in 4 days... I couldn't put it down... & definitely better than the movie (Ehh :P<-) Five Stars *****
Rating: Summary: Not as bad as some reviewers made it out to be. Review: The Lost World was a pretty enjoyable read. Though not in the same category as Jurrasic Park, the story as well as additional insights on the subject was interesting to say the least. In my very subjective opinion - if you were dazzled by Jurassic Park and are totally content with its ending, then I don't think it'd be a good idea to read this, however if you're a glutton for more of the same - get it!
Rating: Summary: Whatever you do, don't see the movie!!! Review: This was a damn fine, suspenseful read. But then I went and saw the film. How many of you, I wonder, have seen the movie and then wanted to read the book? Well, hurry up. But I warn you, they aren't the same. The story is different, the characters are different, the location is different, the plot is different...I could go on. The book was great. It was tense, dark, fun. But to read it because you liked the movie (though God only knows why), would only give you the cold, evil feeling of betrayal. Don't be shammed. This ain't the same thing.
Rating: Summary: Well........I dunno. Review: Jurassic Park was an edge of your seat thriller, one that makes you sweat. But if you take the technical jargon, the originality of the characters, and the delicous description out of the book, it's just another standard thrill ride. That is exactly what he did to The Lost World. The text looks suspiciously like a screenplay, and the chase scenes get tedious. Face it Mike. Jurassic Park just can't have a sequel.
Rating: Summary: The Lost World gives and takes. Review: I was looking forward to a sequel to Jurassic Park for a long, long time. When it came out, I bought it and, of course, read it. I had a mix of emotions. The action sequences are superb, albeit few and far between. The characters are a bit thin, although a step up from Jurassic Park's characters of Grant, Ellie and Gennaro. The only characters from Jurassic Park that had any real story to them were Muldoon and Malcolm. The Lost World starts off too slow, but when the action hits...BAM!!!!!, you are on a roller coaster ride. It has more of a run for your life theme, but it's well thought out. The raptor chase sequences will leave an imprint in your mind for weeks to come. My only real complaint for this book are the lull periods, which happen too often and are too long. The best part about this book is that you really don't have to read the first one to understand it, although Malcolm's speeches may leave some people in the dust. The real action only starts at page 300 out 430, which will be dissapointing to some. Although the ending is very weak, you will want to read it again too see what you might have missed. A perfect summer by-the-beach read.
Rating: Summary: Great, Absolutely awesome!*****all the way! Review: "The Lost World deserves *****,at least, for its fantastic adventurous story line. I can't emphasize enough how greeeeeaaaaat this book is! Crichton nearly nocked me out of my seat with this one!!!
Rating: Summary: BLEH!!! Review: It's a sad day when a book involving such an interesting moral dilema as man's misuse of power has become so formulaic. To begin with, Malcom's "I was dead...now I'm not" resurrection. His morphine ramblings could have been taken right out of the first book. The wors, though, is the obligatory children hitching a ride. A terrible novel that I wish that I had not wasted money on.
Rating: Summary: Greatness Review: Michael Crichton is a genius! well maybe not, but he creates detailed worlds with so much detail and technology. I loved this book for the Biology and Ecology information (ok so I'm a Bio major). I also really liked the character Levine for what he embodied for the scientific world. My only gripe is that this was probably a sequel just to make money on something he knew people already loved. Still I thought that it was more interesting than the first novel!
Rating: Summary: This book dissapointed me. Review: The Lost World in no way led up to my expectations after reading the classic Jurrasic Park. It was obviously was rushed in order to have a main idea for the film's script. THIS BOOK IS NOT WORTH YOUR TIME AND MONEY.
