Summary: Absolutely horrible
Review: No new ideas. Desecrating the memory of Jurassic Park. Avoid this book -- it's an unfortunate waste of time and money. Try Jurassic Park or Disclosure instead.

Summary: Arrgh - I detect an advanced case of sequelitis.
Review: This little exercise had all the bad traits of sequels and none of the few benefits. As with many sequels the author round up essentially the same cast (some JP characters, precocious children, evil corporate baddies), cooked up a reason to put the dinosaurs back in, and viola. No effort seems to have been spent on expanding what we already knew about the JP world. Crichton and the publishers simply wanted to feed readers another dose of JP while they were still digesting the first story. The accompanying movie feels as if the camera were just left running at the end of the first movie and that alone would be enough to keep viewers. Not this one.

Summary: Good and suspensful
Review: This was the third Micheal Crichton book that I read and I thought that it was wonderful. Better than the first one. Even though the book had some repeated themes like Jurassic Park, this edge-of-your-seat thriller was awesome. Iread it in 1day and a half.It always keeps you wondering what will happen next. It will make you want to drop work and just read.

Summary: An excellent follow-up to "Jurassic Park"
Review: Picking up the Lost World is a great idea. After reading Jurassic Park I was eager to see what was going to happen in the sequel. Starting out of course is a little slow, introducing characters and such, but Crichton quickly picks up the slack and rushes you into the world he left after Jurassic Park. The characters are wonderful, suspense chilling, and details rich. It's a wonderful book for reading at home, on the go, or on a slow, rainy day. Final word: A page turner so good it will give you papercuts!

Summary: I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
Review: I read this book when it first came out... I believe in the (old?) saying, "The book is always better than the movie." With this, it rings true. This was the first book, in a long time, that I couldn't put down; where I'd turn off the tv or stop doing things I truly liked, so that I could go read! I sped right thorough it. I recommended it to my cousin, and she loved it as well. When the movie came out, we were so anxious to see it. Boy, what a let down! The movie sucked so much! It didn't even follow the book! There were so many good parts in the book that the movie just cut out! I couldn't believe that. As I said, "The book is better than the movie."

Summary: The Lost World
Review: This was a thrilling book that I could not stop reading till I was done. It never had a dull moment. The whole book was good from start to finish. This book deserves a sixth star!

Summary: "The Lost World" My two cents.
Review: I must admit that some parts of this book were very good, especially in the suspense department. But, aside from the obvious tension that grows as the story progresses, the book is pretty much void of any lasting literary quality, like most Michael Chirchton novels. Some parts have you on the edge of your seat, while other parts have you falling asleep. I think that "Jurassic Park" was somewhat better, since it had more of a plot and better characters. Why Chirchton decided to bring back Malcolm instead of Grant (or some other character who was more interesting in the original book) is beyond my comprehension.

If you like a quick, easy read that's filled with action, but, as I said before, little or no literary quality, then this book is for you.

Summary: UPDATE
Review: Well, after I wrote my review of The Lost World, I decided to pick it up and read it once again. Already halfway through it, I can't help but write this update saying that my memory was right. I love this book! I can't put it down and its going so fast! If you think at all that you'd like this book, GET IT! It's that good

Summary: Put it out of its misery
Review: I loved Jurassic Park. As a result I was excited to read the sequel. I have never plowed through a book so much in my life wishing it would end. The entire book lacked the insight, knowledge, and fantastic ideas that are trademarks of great Crichton books like Jurassic Park, Sphere, and Andromeda Strain.

Summary: Hollywood cliches for sale
Review: This book is for those who want to close their eyes to logic, consistency and common sense and get cheap thrills. Paper-thin characters serve as dinosaur bait in a short-story-sized plot. Consistency and believability are sacrificed at nearly every turn to keep those thrills a coming. I quickly found myself laughing at the contrivances used to bloat the page count with suspense, and ended up just skimming past many scenes in the hopes of finding something with actual meat. If you love implausible chase scenes, moronic bad guys and made-for-TV style suspense, you'll love this hackneyed effort.

Because I would expect more than Hollywood cliches from this author, I have to rate this as close to the worst book I have ever read.
