Summary: I feel disloyal.....but
Review: I have to say that I couldn't really make heads nor tails of this book! I have been a big fan of Peters/Michaels since forever, and own every title there is. It was just too hard to get into.

Summary: Comments on Lord of the Silent
Review: The reader is excellent, a master of the lexicon. I purchased the book, because of the reader. The book itself is very well written, many twists and turns to hold your attention. The ending is somewaht predicable. This is a very British novel.

Summary: A Classic Peter's romp!
Review: This series has been going on for a long time now, and in a way that explains the mixed reviews I've been reading. The series began as a series of light hearted romantic mysteries then graduated into some more serious story lines as WW1 approached.

Now the younger characters have been settled into marriage and the war is well and truly raging, Elizabeth Peter's has once again relaxed into her earlier style. So, readers who've been there since the beginning like me will appreciate this return to the past, but readers who began in the middle of the series with the more serious story lines might be a little disappointed.

That's my theory anyway!

I love the series and as far as I'm concerned this book was brilliant!

Summary: Whatever happened to Amelia ?
Review: This is the first Peabody novel I was disappointed in,especially after it's jammed packed predecessor He Shall Thunder in the Sky. The story lacked most of the exciting touches that make the Peabody series great. I'd rather wait awhile longer for a great story then waste time and money on a mediocre one.

Review: I have no complaint about the book itself, but the binding just fell apart. Please be prepared for other complaints of this type. Thank you, Wilma Davenport

Summary: Retread, retread, retread
Review: At one time, I was a devoted fan of this series, but no longer. It has become so entirely predictable, you are not sure which book you are reading--there is no great difference from the last one. Amelia and Emerson are in danger of becoming cliches; Nefret and Rasmes, who were fascinating children, have become dullsville adults; I wish to God somebody would bury Sethos. The only bright spot is Sennia. If you want more of the same, then this is your meat; but consider. Amelia and Emerson go to Egypt; they dig for antiquities; there is a younger couple to provide the romantic subplot; they are in danger from thiefs/murderers/terrorists; someone is kidnapped; someone escapes; all ends happily. The end. The humour helps, but not enough. I'm getting so that when someone attacks Amelia, I hope they'll do a lot of damage. A bad sign.

Review: I loved the fact that the Master Criminal came back from the dead again! I'm so happy the Master Criminal has found another love interest. Over all, I found this book a delightful read. Well done Elizabeth!

Summary: Really good book for any other author.....
Review: But not for Ms. Peters. I agree with the other reviewers. This book did get a little bogged down in the relationship between Nefret and Ramses. I also missed David! The addition of Gargary to the team was wonderful, however, he was so funny! The middle of the book seemed to drag on forever and it was also a little shallow. I enjoyed this book but not as much as the ones previous. Peabody is getting to be a softie in her old age. What I am really waiting for is the new Barbara Micheals' novel written by the same author as all the Peabody mysteries. Please make it soon!!

Summary: Back to Basics
Review: A new Elizabeth Peters' novel is just the thing to make the summer perfect. The Lord of the Silent, the latest in the Amelia Peabody series, marks a return to the action and romance of the original stories. Adventure is laced with humor. The newlyweds provide the romance. Amelia and Emerson track criminals. The humor grows out of the three generations attempting to understand each other. The plot is complex. Old enemies resurface. Tombs are robbed. Spies unmasked. Family members abducted. Treasure discovered. Nail biting escapes carried off just in the nick of time. I was hooked from the first page. I think it is one of the best of the series. I highly recommend it

Summary: Deeply disappointed from an ardent fan
Review: I love the Amelia Peabody adventures -- I can taste the sand, feel the sun, relish the thrill of the find, admire Emerson's musculature and grow misty eyed at the thought of Ramses and Nefret FINALLY "seeing the light". HOWEVER, this last volume seemed ENDLESS --endlessly trite, with little --or no plot to take it anywhere. I do not begrudge Ramses and Nefret having a romantic moment or two -- and I even enjoy the usual give and take with Amelia and Emerson --but this story went NOWHERE. If I want to read a romance I'll buy Georgette Heyer or whomever--if I want to read nothingness, I'll read some memos from work. It wasn't until the last chapter that there was a "find" or even a fight. I do hope Ms Peters hasn't tired of discovering and describing Egyptian treasures and hidden rooms and twists and turns -- "The Last Camel Died At Noon" was terrific as were the others -- and I have them all. But this experience was so disappointing! I kept hoping that maybe the next paragraph - the next page, the next manuscript excerpt - the next chapter -- but no -- nothing.--To be perfectly honest, I feel a bit betrayed. This has taught me not to buy the hardcover -- but wait --- in hopefull suspense -- for the paperback. Ms Peters give us a trove of treasures - forget the war, the Master Criminal, yes - forget even Sienna (she's annoyiing but not in the interesting way that Ramses was as a child)-- lets get back to Egyptolgy, discoveries and your best!
