Summary: Slow-going!
Review: I really enjoyed the beginning of this book and was very intrigued by the developing story. However, I got "bogged down" during the very long and drawn out chapters about the pre-trial happenings, jury selection, etc. I still haven't finished this book! Every time I try to pick it up again, I just get frustrated and put it back on the shelf. After reading some of the other reviews, maybe I'll give it one more try.

Summary: Be sure to wear a sweater when you get to that icy night!
Review: I found it astonishing that a male writer could so convincingly capture the heart and feelings of a 14-year old girl. This book never went where I expected it to go. It was wonderfully unpredictable. I liked it! I'm recommending it to my sister and mother!

Summary: This one has to be shared with every woman you know!
Review: I loved "Midwives" so much that I would wait impatiently for it to be late enough so I could scoot out of work (without getting in trouble) and run home to read. The heck with housework, and who needs to cook? A book like this comes along all too rarely, and needs to be savored with all your attention. -But don't forget to go to sleep!- I passed it on to my stepmother, and then my "book circle" here at work. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, those I've shared it with love it too.

Summary: Listen to this book on tape
Review: My girl friend and I went to the beach last weekend sans husbands and kids, and we decided to listen to the book on tape during the four hour drive. I would have never believe the three of us could go that long without saying a word (except "hurry up and turn the tape over!") We all really enjoyed hearing this book and highly recommend it.

Summary: Emotional, gripping wonderful read
Review: I loved this book, I couln't put it down and read it within 2 days, being from the medical field I found it especially wonderful. I could picture the scenes in my head and wanted to talk to the characters myself. After reading I went to the library to find other books writen by this auhtor as I needed to have the same experience reading anothe book as I had with Midwives.

Summary: Wonderfully developed novel!
Review: The author's research was obviously quite complete. Having worked in and around the childbirth field for many years, I am astounded at how accurately the author portrayed the emotions and actions of the characters. The character development of the daughter was also well done. Her reactions were very realistic for someone her age and seeing the story through her eyes made the novel all the more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this novel!

Summary: A very interesting and thoughtful book.
Review: As a Neonatal RN, I found this book very interesting. I am the nurse at the delivery who always wants that baby out, when the fetal strips are bad. I find the idea of a home birth scary. Unfortunately this is because I see the bad outcomes. It was interesting to read this book and see the events from the eyes of a child. The child of the midwife. It captured the sorrow of a birth that had complications that results in a death.

Summary: Best read in a long time
Review: This book was unique, fascinating, and enjoyable. It was slow at first, but once into the book, it flowed all the way to the end. I would recommend to anyone.

Summary: The ending is GREAT!
Review: I really enjoyed this book. It was easy to get into, easy to read, but wasn't a real quick read. It was deep and I really felt like I knew the characters. I thought it was very well written and I liked it a lot!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Very riveting
Review: The book was very slow to pick up but once I got into it, I could not put it down until I was finished. The author was very graphic and did a great job on his research, considering that he is male.
