Rating: Summary: A total waste of paper and time. Review: How can Griffin write 500+ pages about a so-called adventure yet devote less than 100 to the actual adventure itself? Those who enjoy learning about military bureaucracy will love this book. Those who look for character and plot development will do better to buy any Clancy book.
Rating: Summary: No-Danger, Little story, lots of Inconsistencies Review: I've read most of Griffins books and have enjoyed the character development in them. Not this time, there was no character development. There was very little story telling - mostly rehashes of previous books. And the rehashes had so many parts in conflict with other books in the series that I question the competence of the author or editor of the series. Does anybody read these books before they are published? If someone goes to the trouble of developing compelling characters - why destroy that effort through such laziness? Griffin would do himself and his readers a great service by hiring someone to proof the next book and catch the outrageous conflicts. Wait for the paperback on this book - its easier to stomach the poor quality when you only spend $7.00.
Rating: Summary: Well, I Enjoyed Your Book, Mr. Griffin Review: Maybe I'm missing something here, but I buy W.E.B. Griffin's novels because they're fun to read AND they hold your interest. I really don't care if technically a Catalina could not have flown from the Yellow Sea to the Gobi Desert. And I'm really not all that concerned that Kenneth McCoy will be the youngest major in the history of the Marine Corps. Griffin's book met my basic criteria: it was worth what I paid for it and I felt that I got the entertainment value I was looking for. And as for all the inconsistencies, in the end, what's the difference?
Rating: Summary: McCoy & Zimmerman return to Asia Review: A very good read however it was some what predictable. Milla Banning and Mrs. Ernie Zimmerman leave China.
Rating: Summary: Factual inconsistencies, but worth the Price! Review: The difference between Tom Clancy and W.E.B.Griffin is that Clancy gets his technical facts correct whereas Griffin is sometimes questionable and Griffin, to me, is a better story teller: he always maintains my interest. I have all of Griffin's books: they are, to me, worth the money! In Danger's Path, Griffin has our cast of heros involved in a Gobi Desert Mission intertwined with their interesting personal stories of the period. Griffin's books don't remind me of real war, thank God, it's the Hollywood version: I love it! Can't wait for the next one.
Rating: Summary: A THOROUGHLY ENGROSSING READ Review: Having read every work by this author, I feel I can say this is a definite page turner, but not the his best work. I have followed and come to enjoy the characters presented by GRIFFIN, General Pickering, Colonel Jack (NMI) Stecker, Major Banning, Major Dillon, Captain Sessions, Captain McCoy, Master Gunner Rutterman, and Gunny Zimmerman. Like every other of GRIFFIN'S books, I can't wait for the next to be released. The only thing with IN DANGERS PATH that I found disturbing was thinking it may be the last of the series. Although there is definite continuity differences, (did Ernie Sage forget that she met and almost pushed Gunny Zimmerman into the water at the San Diego Yacht Club for continually calling her "Miss Ernie"? Was Pick decorated with the DFC by the SECRETARY OF THE NAVY when Bill Dunn Was similiarly decorated or by Lt. Colonel Dawkins on Guadalcanal), I feel in no way cheated out of a wonderful tale that is a mixture of fact, fantasy and fictional characters. I eagerly await the next book in any of the series. My wish is that GRIFFIN will be able to keep the story alive through the Korean and Vietnam Wars, if nothing else than to show that the proud traditions of the MARINE CORP. have thrived through both.
Rating: Summary: Read them all but why? Review: Oh my gosh..why am I reading these books? premise 1 -- the rich are good; if you're really cool, you too will be rich. Ex: Kenneth McCoy is welcome at 21 and all the other places the rich frequent and never have trouble with their table manners. Pick Pickering doesn't get creamed like his buddy Stecker because he shot skeet (because he was rich) or maybe because he gets to go to tropical vacation resorts when he's tired. premise 2 - everyone good will eventually get promoted. Ken McCoy is slated to be the youngest Major in the history of the Marines (except of course for Major Lowell) premise 3 - all good virtuous women immediately recognize their future husbands, immediately go to bed with them, and are faithful ever after. Their husbands are mostly faithful. What ever happened to poor Carolyn Howell? premise 4 - good soldiers and Marines look like Greek gods, and usually manage to look good in their uniforms even under terrible conditions (and for gosh sakes, we know that Jack Stecker has NO MIDDLE NAME, AND the MEDAL, so why do we have to hear it every ten minutes) premise 5 - the idea of women in uniform, as marines, is ridiculous; women should go back to wearing teeshirts, and fulfill their prime directive.Sigh. So why am I reading these books? They're like popcorn..and I can't wait for the next promotion
Rating: Summary: A good book but full of too many inconsistancies Review: I really enjoy all of his books. Every time a new one in a series comes out I read the whole series to refresh my memory about the characters. Unfortunately with this book, having fresh memories of the characters is not good because of the inconsistancies the author allows. In the 1st 40 pages there are details (some major) that differ greatly from previous books. This really took away from the story and made me wonder if he doesn't care about consistancy or if maybe his memory (and that of his editor) is failing.
Rating: Summary: Great Book!! W.E.B. Griffin does it again. Review: The ablility of this author to mix history and his characters make reading his books so interesting, and believable. Can't wait for the next book.
Rating: Summary: This book series is too addicting Review: I love this series of books...and once again this novel has left me screaming for more. There is nothing lacking in this action packed, suspense filled novel that I can find. If you loved the previous ones...you'll die over this one.
