Rating: Summary: Excellent continuation of the series. Review: Griffin again is able to write a very interest book that you won't be able to put down (I was up till one o'clock finishing it the first day it came out). He is able to tell a great war story were the war is completely in the background. I don't think a single shot was fired in anger in the whole book. But, once again there is Griffin's usual problem with continuity. Things change in the series that any other author or editor wouldn't allow to change. Example in the first book of the series McCoy is a Irish Catholic and in the seventh he is Scotch Protestant. I have talked to other fans and authors, such as Joel Rosenburg, and we think he actually does this on purpose. And I have to admit that once you get use to it you actually enjoy being able to catch the changes. Griffin is probable my favorite author, at least I get driven more nuts waiting for his new books to come out than anyother, and I recommend his books to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Best Corps Book Yet Review: The best Corps novel yet - characters are very complex and well developed, the plot moves quickly and the WW II technology is very interesting. Characters we have grown to love are shown to be quite complex - Gen. Pickering is troubled by having to learn to play the politician's game; his son, Pick, pays the price for his immaturity; Ken "Killer" McCoy is becoming a prisoner of his ruthless competence and the women - well, read it yourself. His best effort yet.
Rating: Summary: Great continuation of Behind the Lines Review: WEB Griffin continues to bring WWII in focus with a great continuation of the Behind the Lines story. McCoy is still impressing people, General Pickering is still walking blindly into mine fields of bureaucracy and making it entertaining. Many questions are answered from the previous books, like, what's happened to Mrs. Bannon, and Mrs. Zimmerman. This book also has a polish that was not as bright as the last two Corp books, SO ENJOY!
Rating: Summary: great book, leaves you wanting the next one! Review: This is a great extention of the series. A lot of my favorite characters are back. The minor problem is a little lack of continuity between books. Often in one book we are told of an event, in the next book the event has changed or is ignored. Still great reading. The biggest problem now is the torture of waiting for the next sequel. I sure hope the series continues at least to the end of WWII. Thanks for the good read!!
Rating: Summary: outstanding book Review: outstanding boo
Rating: Summary: More of the same! Review: Of course, saying W.E.B. Griffin's latest is more of the same is like saying that "Star Wars" is just another space movie. "In Danger's Path" introduces you to a new field of operations, China. McCoy & Zimmerman return to China to set up a badly needed weather station. If you'll recall, this opens the possibility of finding Milla Banning and Zimmerman's wife. On the home front, Pick and one of the newest characters, Capt. James Weston, find that the perils of war in the Pacific aren't nearly as dangerous as those in skirts on the home front. My biggest complaint is that Mr. Griffin only tells this story every two years. That's a long time to wait for a book I burned through in two days. Gimme More!
Rating: Summary: Leaves you wanting to know more, hard to put down Review: After having read all of Mr. Griffins books, this is one in a long line that gets read again and again. He has followed thru with details of the actual war and has not forgotten the characters he has created in previous books. This book like the others make one anxious for the next book in line, you really want to know how the story will end, although we all know who won the war, but the characters come alive in time and space and as usual Mr. Griffin has left the ending open as more stories can be told. An author of the very best who does not overlook any detail. For a reader of history this book or series of books is a must to get the true feeling of everyman in war.
Rating: Summary: This Corps novel has less character development. Review: The adventures of the Corps series characters continue. The new reader would do well to start at the beginning of the series as the characters are very sketchily drawn here. The plot involves a Gobi desert mission and the action picks up after a slow start. Not as good as the last two but fans will want to keep the story going.
Rating: Summary: what a superb mind Review: CAN I BE THE FIRST TO SAY--"HE'S DONE IT AGAIN"?? WHAT A GREAT BOOK;I CAN LEARN MORE FROM W.E.B THAN FROM ANY HISTORY BOOK OR SCHOOL COURSE. DON'T LET THIS MAN RETIRE UNTIL HE WRITES ONE BOOK FOR EVERY YEAR THRU VIET NAM.
Rating: Summary: Best Griffin Corps Book Yet! Review: Fast-paced action with scenes in China, Hawaii, Memphis, Pensacola and Washington D.C. The story is interesting and the characters are more fully developed than we've previously seen. Some of the main-stays are growing up, others are regressing. We are also beginning to see more of the OSS and Wild Bill Donovan. Keep up the good work!
