Rating: Summary: Excavation Review: Let's just say that this book rocked! From the creepy beginning to the the final climax, I couldn't put the book down! The characters were far more interesting and complex than most thrillers and the action wasn't to be believed! I hope they make a movie out of this book because I would love to see some of these scenes on the big screen. Mr Rollins, keep up the good work!
Rating: Summary: More good stuff from Mr. Rollins Review: Having read Subterranean when it first came out I wasn't at all dissapointed with Excavation. A story that moves and moves. A great read.
Rating: Summary: An entertaining adventure... Review: Right away I have to say that I didn't enjoy this book as much as Subterranean. Nevertheless, the story was quite entertaining and well thought out. Mr. Rollins did a great job at blending the past (Incan Empire) with the future (nanotechnology). It really got me thinking about those vanished empires and how they were able to be so advanced so long ago. I truly enjoyed the characters, as they were very well developed, and was glad to see that Norman was not portrayed as a typical stereotype. I even found myself disliking Phillip. The Epilogue seems to hint at a follow-up book, which I think would make a great story.
Rating: Summary: Good, but not great. Review: After reading Subterannean I was anxiously awaiting Rollins next book. Alas, I am here to say I could have waited a little longer for it. It starts off quick and the first half is mysterious and tense, but the second half of the book failed to live up to the first. The events in the second half were a little too improbable for my tastes. At the end of the book I felt it was a little too much of been there done that. To conclude, the book was decent but his first was a far superior read to this.
Rating: Summary: High adventure in the Andes Review: A friend lent me a copy of Subterranean. I loved it then went out to buy a copy for my own library and there was another Rollins book! I grabbed it up. Read it in 2 days! I literally could not put it down. It kept drawing me deeper and deeper into the story, until the big surprise on the very last page. Well done! I will be first in line for the next Rollins book.
Rating: Summary: FROM THE DEPTHS OF SUBTERANNEAN TO THE HEIGHTS OF THE ANDES! Review: I literally just finished James Rollin's new novel EXCAVATION and was very entertained. It again has his flair of great characters and evil villains and weird beasts, but his style of always leaving you wanting more as well as letting you know that this is far from over! Ah, possible sequels, right James! Just like hollywood - smart move. But as much as I liked this new novel, I couldn't help but compare it to SUBTERRANEAN, and to me personally, I thought EXCAVATION came in a close 2nd. But this is a fast-paced, fun read and again, like his other novels, both thrillers or fantasy novels, they would make and read like good movies. The locations and people's were colorful, the action aplenty, and a novel that makes you wonder - where is this leading to? This all makes you want to keep reading. The good things about his novels are that, to me, they never truly slow down enough to where you get bored, and thats very important. This is a must read for people who like their Indiana Jones-like adventure. Also read his other great works under the name James Clemens, you won't be dissapointed!
Rating: Summary: Indiana Jones...the B-rated version. Review: Mr. Rollins has compilied a group of characters that reads like the cast list for a USA Up All Night movie. I was amazed at the marks my fellow reviewers gave this novel. I fought the yawns through page after page of this journey into ancient Incan mystery, and to be honest; I don't have the energy to do it once again to point out the many reasons that this novel is bland. So be warned my fellow readers, wait for some fool film company to make this into a movie and watch it. At least that way you will only waste 90 minutes of your time.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I bought this book with great expectations. I feel the stilted conversations, and completely unbelievable situations, with little regard for history combine to make this book unreadable. I've quit at page 292, unable to endure the torture for another page.
Rating: Summary: Be prepared to give up a day or two Review: A day lost in turning pages, but well worth it. This book is a combination of novel ideas woven into a beautifully constructed plot. Every page was exciting. I guess my only criticism is more a wish and not meant to detract from what is an extremely enjoyable book..... I wish the ending had been a bit "deeper". There were so many new ideas presented in this book that touched on the past and the future that I found I invested a great deal of thought while reading it. I kept hoping that the predictable ending would somehow be avoided so that I could continue to mull these ideas over after the last page. This was not to be. All of my questioning came while reading the book and the neat and, again, predictable ending sadly relegated a great book to complete closure when I turned the last page. The existence of a bit of mystical substance remaining in the hands of a questionable character simply was not enough, I wish I had been left with more. Had this not been an unusually good book I would not have felt that way, but the ending was too ordinary for what was an extraordinary book. A thought provoking ending that matched the quality of the body of the book would have put this novel in a category way above five stars. Still, this book is well worth the price and the time and its plot and execution place it far above the run of the mill adventure.
Rating: Summary: A Great Read Review: Having enjoyed Subterranean last year, I eagerly awaited this book. I have not been disappointed and got it shipped to the UK as soon as it was released; it is exciting and certainly a page turner. This like his previous book would make a terrific mini series. My only complaint is having to wait a year for this one and even worse news, presumably another year for the next.
