Summary: I hated this book!
Review: Every character was extremely unlikeable. I thought the two main characters deserved each other. She was a [prostitute] and he was a slimeball. Of course, there's is an odd denouement in the last chapters that is supposed to make it okay for him to be the hero but it was unrealistic and totally stupid.

This whole book left a bad taste in my mouth.

Summary: swimming against the tide
Review: I know I'm in the minority here but I found this book to be boring, while I loved Sunny Chandler's Return (and I'm a feminist!). I found the characters in White Hot to be one-dimensional stereotypes and the dialogue to be stilted and artificial sounding. Come on! Real people don't talk like that! (Well, unfortunately, some do, but nobody likes them, and if they're so difficult to connect with you can bet they aren't having great sex). The character of Sayre was particularly annoying. There was absolutely nothing likeable about that woman. She was cold and hostile and competitive and bitter and talked like a Stepford Wife. But she was beautiful and had long legs....so naturally the good guy falls for her--aarrrgh! In general I'm not impressed with Ms. Brown's writing. She uses description (i.e. she tells you that Character A is sexy and smart and Character B is corrupt, etc.),to try to create dynamic tension in her plot rather than the more difficult process of character development or whatever good authors do to make you feel something for the characters. At least in Sunny Chandler's Return there was some real spark and sexuality. I've started to wonder if there are several different women who write under the name of Sandra Brown (or she has multiple personalities) because the books are so disparate. I literally looked her up in Amazon.com because I couldn't believe this was the same Sandra Brown who wrote some of her other books! She has yet to depict a woman I would want to spend any time with! I think maybe what's missing is humor, authenticity, warmth, and charm. I think I'm about to give up on this author.

Review: I thought this book was a let down for SB and very predictable

Summary: SB has another winner in WHITE HOT
Review: I was unable to put this book down. I may not have enjoyed it as much as I did ENVY, but still, I thought the characters were strong, the plot was great, and the prose went very well. I would highly recommend this book to suspense readers. Oddly enough, there was a bit of romance, but SB did a wonderful job in this area too. She's one of my favorites lately. I'll be looking forward to her next one.

Summary: same ole same ole
Review: ms brown likes to use the *N* word in her books, i want to read a book to enjoy. i understand in older books before people knew better it would be there. but i do not see it to be necessary in this shallow novel. i will not be reading any more of her novels.

Summary: only finished it because i could relate to it
Review: Overall the book was ok. It took me about three weeks to finish it which is unusual. I can read a really good book in about two days. It was slow to develop. Somewhat predictable. I had to force myself to finish it.

Summary: Cain and Abel
Review: Ten years previously to this story beginning, Sayre Lynch left her small home town in Louisiana to escape from her father and eldest brother whom she loathed. Her manipulative father had destroyed her relationship with her college sweetheart and her lying, conniving brother had made her life a torment. She had recieved a call from her younger brother Danny, asking her to get in touch with him but had ignored it, feeling that she couldn't bear to see her family again after all the pain that they had caused. When she recieves a call telling her of Dannys' suicide, she immediately feels remorseful at her refusal to contact him and returns home for his funeral.
At the funeral, she meets Beck Merchant, her fathers' lawyer and right hand man and, despite recognizing the fact that she is physically attracted to him, refuses to feel anything but loathing as she considers that he is merely one of her fathers' yes men and therefore, unscrupulous.
An horrific accident occurs at her fathers' factory, after which its safety precautions are called into question, with labour problems and lack of safety measures causing huge unrest among the workers.
As may be expected in a book by Sandra Brown, there are some sizzling sex scaenes which are very well written, but the outcome of all this trouble is pretty well evident from an early stage, with no surprises.

Summary: Entertaining
Review: The characters in White Hot reminded me of a modern day Tennessee Williams dysfunctional southern family. You could almost see Big Daddy mopping his brow in the summer heat. The daughter, Sayre who left ten years ago, making a complete break from the family she unfortunately was born into must return when younger brother allegedly commits suicide. His death looks suspcious and that's when things heat up. Unfortunately the romance portion of the novel never got as steamy as I would have liked, but all in all this was a good read.

Summary: Good writing but...
Review: The Hoyle's family story will keep you reading, but not thrilling you, the Syare's (with r-e) love story is very predictable since she met Beck Merchant and since they met, you will know how their love story would end.
The book repeats itself several times and that makes the reading a little heavy but not enough to leave the book.
On the other hand, except for the predictable love story, you will never guess or have any inkling on how the book will end, and just for that its worth to read the book.

Summary: Reading fanatic - - Difficult to satisfy
Review: This book was INCREDIBLE!! I can't believe how much I enjoyed this book. It had a bit of everything - suspence, romance and thriller all wrapped perfectly together. At countless times while reading the book, I was commited to figure out 'who did it' before it was revealed to me. I must say that there were so many twists and turns that I couldn't put it down and ended up staying awake much longer than I had planned. This is an A++++ book and for anybody looking for a real page turner!!

Also recommended: Dan Brown, Nora Roberts, Scott Turow, Nelson DeMille, Linda Scottoline, Harry Potter
