Summary: very good reading, last half of book is a page turner
Review: Its what I expected of David Baldacci, I did guess basically all of the bad guys. His first 2 books are much better. It was a definite page turner. Well worth the money. I would recommend this to anyone. I work in a bookstore and let people know how good it is.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Non-Stop Page Turner
Review: This is the first Baldacci book I read and it was thrilling. I found myself reacting verbally to the many surprises. Definitely recommend this one.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Lacks authenticity. Shallow plot
Review: David Baldacci needs to do some better research on how the military operates and how the military components and other government agencies interface with one another. I say this for the following reasons.

a. Army assignment policy would not be overriden by a member of congress for 25 years, which would have had to be the case with Tremain and Rayfield guarding Rufus for that period of time. Further, no one makes Full Colonel as a prison guard. The assignments of those other sadistic morons from Fort Plussy to DC is also unrealistic.

b. The military forces do have blemishes on their past records because of problems associated with social & other changes, such as racial and gender integration and developing counter strategies and tacties against potential threats such as CBW. They do not, however, condone practices as this book implies that they do. Their internal standards & policy watchdogs, e.g., Inspector General and other recurring inspection programs, would have uncovered a gross descrepency like Tremain and Rayfield personal assignments long, long before the quarter century that Baldacci writes. It simply does not happen that way, and that is the simple truth.

c. At one point Rayfield is told by the ultimate culprit that he should use intelligence resources available to him to work the problem associated with Rufus. Nonsense. An Army Colonel posted at a Prison has no intelligence resources at his disposal. It simply doesn't work that way.

The characters were not developed very well and the book's plot was thin and very disappointing. I had trouble remembering exactly who one culprit was when he took off his mask near the end of the book. Further, I assume that most people had figured out the ultimate culprit about half-way through the book.

Summary: Intricate Weave!
Review: This was the first book I've read by Baldacci. This was easily as suspenseful as several Ludlum novels and potentially reveals many "behind-the-scene" lobbying tactics of our mercurial Supreme Court justices. Many unexpected twists. A thoroughly good read.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Fair Book - some suspense - Not Balducci's best
Review: The plot has potential and starts off well. The characters seem quite interesting and Balducci gets you interested in them - however the relationships grow quite wane - the suspense lags - the plot becomes illogical, especially the description and aftermath of one of the major character's escape from prison. The book doesn't hold onto your interest simply because you begin to lose interest in the characters due to the lack of plot suspense and cohesion.

Summary: excellent - a page turner
Review: Another page turner from David Baldacci. It started off slow, but was well worth it. The second half is great!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good page turner
Review: I read this book on a long plane trip. Like his other books, it was a fun read. Like his others, it was preposterous. Since I've had some practice reading the others, I was able to guess who most of the villains were. However, he puts enough twists and turns in the book to keep you guessing.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: @ Stunning Thriller
Review: Basically, we have come to expect gripping, taut stories from Baldacci and he does not dissapoint here. The book starts a little slow, but the last half is gripping, and worth the wait....looks like it could turn into a pretty taut screenplay too....Waiting for his next tome

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: What a fascinating book
Review: David Baldacci did it again!I couldn't put this book down.I enjoyed "The Winner" very much, but "The Simple Truth" kept me rooted to my chair.I can't wait for his next book.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Interesting plot, keeps you guessing, surprising end.
Review: I enjoy reading Badacci books for his research, interesting plots, and knack of captivating his readers from the onset. This books is no different. He keeps you guessing throughout the book and he deals with deep relationship issues that many families face. In the book he tries to put life in perspective and leaves the reader to ponder what is important in life. Greed, money, politics, revenge, relationships, love, religious conviction are but a few topics he touches on. All and all it is an enjoyable read with a focus on mystery.
