Review: A time to kill is a book that every one should have a chance to read. Becuse it is real interesting and the title espachilly cetches your eye. A time to Kill is about race, rape , things that use to happend to the African American people espechilly the heip less one's the chilldren. This book should be the best celler if it is alredy not When I first started reading this book I could not get my head out of it becuse it is really intrestinn and for thoghs who passed this book up in the store go back and read it becuse you would not want to put it down.

Summary: Grisham's first is pretty strong
Review: This book is not bad. I was expecting more though from Grisham, but it isn't bad. I was expecting more thrills and suspense, while it did have its share, it failed to keep me on the edge of my seat at times. Carl Lee Hailey, a black man from Mississippi, is on trial for killing two whites and wounding another. But is it justifiable for him to kill these men? They raped his daughter, beat her, and practically screwed up her entire life. Should Carl Lee have waited for the court to decide their fate, or was he right to be the executioner? You ask yourself these questions sometimes while reading this book. I myself changed opinions a lot on Carl Lee. I thought that this might be justifiable, yet he also was guilty of killing two guilty men, and wounding an innocent man. Is Carl Lee innocent? That is up to the reader. The Ku Klux Klan is big in this book. Most of the suspense comes from the actions of the Klan. You really hate the Klan after they do the things they do in this book, and it shows how bad the Klan and racism actually is. I liked this book, and a lot of people will. At times this book is very slow moving though. Young people will have a hard time following the book, for it is real in-depth legal suspense. However, if you are a teen or adult and are looking for a suspensful book, this is great for you!

Summary: Grisham's First is one of his Best
Review: A Time to Kill is John Grisham's first novel, and it really is a good read. Grisham explores deep into the depths of southern law in Mississippi. In many ways, though I don't think Grisham orginally intended it to be, A Time to Kill is like an updated version of Harper Lee's Classic, To Kill a Mockingbird. Very different circumstances, but the same basic concept; what effect will race have on the judgement? A Time to Kill, like most of Grisham's books is a bit predictable, and it doesn't end very well; it comes to a halt too quickly. Yet it still is a good, recommended read, those who are Grisham fans (like myself) will really enjoy. Grisham's first book is additionally the perfect first read for someone who hasn't read any of his other novels. Enjoy!

Summary: An expedition for Grisham's readers
Review: I've seen the movie and read the book...I must say that the book is very inconceivable and define. The unexpected and beyond surprising events of the raped ten year old, Tonya Hailey lead her father, Carl Lee Hailey, to take the two rapists' lives in his own hands. Meanwhile, Carl's lawyer, Jake Bigance was threatened by the Ku Klux Klan and many disastrous occurance were taken place (which would of led anyone to give up his case). However, Jake did not fail to make a fulfilling speech which justifys that Carl's actions were righteous. To Jake's assistance, there was Roark, a "brilliant, wicked chick" who did not really make a difference in this story. Mostly why I highly recommend this book!

Review: I have read several of Grisham's books and they are all wonderful, but this is the best I do believe. Different from other Griaham books, I highly reccomend it to people that like Grisham and even those who don't.

Summary: Has to be Grisham's best--and that's not saying much
Review: The story does a good job of highlighting racial relation in the American Deep South, but that is about the only thing it does. Rather slow, it certainly did not hold my interest for very long. The best thing I can say about it was that the characters were more believable, not as cliched and certainly less hateful than in subsequent Grisham books.

Summary: Wooohoooooooo!
Review: Wow. This was the first Grisham book I have read and I loved it. I had seen the movie when it came out and liked it, but now it pales in comparison. Admittedly, the character of Ellen Roark could have had more depth, but I have few complaints about this book. THe protagonist was not a wimpy, touch-feely hero, he had some serious quirks in his nature. His arrogance and haughtiness made him a much more believable character. I have read other books by Grisham but this one was the best.

Review: John Grisham's "A TIME TO KILL" is dynamite! A very believable novel with a strong plot. Carl Lee Hailey's 10-year-old daughter, Tonya, is raped by two remorseless, drunk white men. Carl Lee takes revenge, and kills them both with an M-16. The story deals with the press, hatred, and racism, including the Ku Klux Klan, before the trial begins, and for the duration. Very compelling, drawing you right into the story, and making you join Jake Brigance, and all his troubles. It's definitely not predictable with happenings like Dr. Bass' felony, and Jake being fired by Carl Lee. Every once in a while there is some small humour, quite often due to persistency on one topic, like the ostrich boots of Dr. Bass. An excellent book recommended to all readers that are at an intermediate, or higher, level of reading.

Summary: Success with a passion
Review: Like it or not, this is an exceptional first book. Actually, it's an exceptional book period. Grisham could use a little work on construction and grammar, but his ability to tell a compelling story with passion is superb. However, the reader is left with a disquieting feeling -- sure, Carl Lee's act was understandable and maybe even justifiable; sure the world is a better place for the elimination of the two vile rapists. But, do we really want to live in a society where such acts as Carl Lee's are acceptable? Carl Lee's action may be secularly right, but it surely is not legal. Furthermore, it's not moral. Still, Grisham succeeds at leading the reader to the point where such concerns must be addressed. And, there's no easy answer. Grisham paints some great characters -- Jake, Lucien, Buckley, Carl Lee, Gwen and Harry Rex. But, Ro-ark should row a boat out of the book because there's no need for her. After all, do we need Jake, Buckley, Lucien or Noose when we have law students as brilliant as Ro-ark? All in all, I still think this is Grisham's best work because I can feel his passion in every word I read.
