Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: Having eagerly awaited the arrival of Mr Grisham's latest endeavor it was disappointing to have done so. From his earlier works we know the author has the talent
to keep one's attention for hours. Of all his previous writings this falls to the bottom of his list, second only to "Runaway Jury" in its mediocrity. Mr Grisham seems to
be falling into the routine of grinding out books for the money rather than quality as this writer has seen all too many times in the past
Rating: Summary: Prepare to ignore everyone once you start reading Review: No, I did not love this character, but I did admire the way he had every angle thought out. The book was hard to put down and I know I ignored my family while reading. There were many twists and turns in the story although I also found the end to be quite predictable. I enjoyed the book but am also sorry I finished it so quickly
Rating: Summary: This book turns it's own pages! Review: John Grisham has out done himself! After the first page, the pages seem to turn themselves. As I read this book, I found I had as many questions as the author had answers. The constant legal twists and turns in the story kept me riveted. Grisham keeps the reader interested with the number of players in the plot but has buried a further thought in the reader's mind. What would it be like to start life over? New and fresh--what a fantansy! Although, I throuoghly enjoyed this book and recommend it highly, readers BEWARE! The ending is not expected and rather dishearting. Nevertheless, it will not overshadow the pure enjoyment of the read
Rating: Summary: Entertaining Review: I find myself thinking I shouldn't like this book -- the characters aren't particularly sympathetic (and most of Grisham's books do have characters you root for) and the writing isn't great -- but this man can tell a story! While the story doesn't make you think or rethink your stands on serious issues (e.g., death penalty) as many of his other books do, and very likely this wouldn't happen to anyone you know, it's a great read! I couldn't put it down -- reading just one more chapter and then one more and so on to find out what was going to happen. This will be a great beach book and, obviously, a good movie. So sit down and enjoy it
Rating: Summary: Another excellent thriller with an exciting twist. Review: I read this book very quickly because of the constant changes that occured in it. The plot is very exciting, even more complex than ones contained in The Pelican Brief and The Runaway Jury. I highly recommend this book to others who have found Grisham's work to be of high quality
Rating: Summary: great Review: The book starts with a bang and never slows down. Patrick, the main character, tried to outfoxed the lawyers, feds, and the media only to outfoxed himself.Great rea

Rating: Summary: Intriguing plot defeated by a suspsense-free plot structure Review: The concept is great - what happens to Mitch McDeere after he's been on the run for four years? Starting where The Firm and many other John Grisham plotlines leave off, Patrick Lanigan must face the consequences of having faked his death and escaped the FBI and the shady businessmen and lawyers with $90 million. He is kidnapped in Brazil, tortured and mysteriously turned over to the FBI for further questioning. The question: Where is the money?! The problem with The Partner is almost all mechanical. Having started at the end of his usual story, Grisham sets up many potential lawsuits and investigations dealing with the results of Patrick's theft, most of which could have been the primary focus of the book in and of themselves. He then abandons his usual chronological storytelling and employs a series of interrogative devices wherein the many characters relate what happened prior to Chapter One. This prequel is a cumbersome story-within-(not much of a)-story that weighs heavily in the middle of the book. As each prior episode is related, the corresponding pending threat is breezily dismissed: Patrick's wife sues for divource and her share of the $90M; Patrick relates to his lawyer the story of his bad marriage; divorce is settled in Patrick's favor in a matter of hours. Pretty neat, wouldn't you say? The most unforgivable result of this structural tomfoolery is an utter lack of suspense in the second half of the book. Even the attempted twist ending is predictable from early on. Grisham's many literary sins from one-dimensional (at best)stock characters to cliched prose ("She gave him a look that would melt cheese") are usually forgivable in light of his keen, driving plots that compel any reader to finish the book no matter what. This reader was tempted abandon her efforts twenty pages shy of the finish line
Rating: Summary: kick ass Review: enjoyabl
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: I believe this is one of John Grisham's best three legal thrillers, along with "The Firm" and "The Runaway Jury". It's a must.
