Rating: Summary: One of Grishams best books. Review: Normally I don't think of Grisham as a great author. Howeverthis was one of his best books. It rivaled "The Firm". Itkept me intrigued until the end.
Rating: Summary: Grisham's The Partner gets my Brain Candy Analogy Review: Empty calories, gets you excited for a little while and thenthe sugar wears off. Now, regret sinks in and you wish you'd had aV-8 instead.
Rating: Summary: The Firm II Review: Poor John Grisham. He pretty much single-handedly creates agenre, achieves blockbuster status with only his second novel, andevery further effort flies off the bookstore shelves and onto the movie screen. And then, when he writes yet another of his books, everyone bashes him for being boring.^M ^M Like The Firm, this is a novel about a man who is preternaturaly clever at figuring out the details. The protagonist is the same, although the name has been changed. I imagine this is Grisham's response to all those people who must have asked: "But didn't they come looking?" There are no surprises if you've read Grisham's other books, and plenty if you haven't. The most distinguishing factor for this book is a strong moral sensibility that hasn't been expressed since A Time To Kill. It isn't art, but it is fast-paced and cleverly plotted, which is why you pick up a Grisham after all.
Rating: Summary: Another Improbable Ending Review: You plow through 2/3 of the book wondering how the plot willtwist into something unexpected. Then the story becomes clear. Butwait, there's still 1/3 of the book to go. How can Grisham fill it up? Surely, he'll build to a surprise ending. But when it does, it leaves you feeling cheated.
Rating: Summary: He's back! Review: He's back!!!! Truly one of his best. I have read every one ofGrisham's books and although I had a little trouble getting into thisone, once I did, I couldn't put it down! I read this book in one evening - a record. I usually like to savor every page but, I couldn't get enough. I enjoyed all the twists and turns and I had to know "HOW" and "WHY". Although I did ultimately predict the ending, I'd like to think I'm somewhat practiced at predicting outcomes. Even so, I must admit I couldn't help but hope I was wrong. You will ask yourself, "How it could have ended any other way without impacting the reader?" This book certainly has great potential for a sequel - can't wait to see what they have been up to. Wouldn't it be interesting if Stephano helped out.... Movie? Oh, please! (Without the Hollywood butchering). By the way, I liked the movie "Time to Kill" much better than the book.... I don't think I've ever liked a movie better than the book. ^M ^M Thanks, Mr. Grisham. Can't wait for the next one!!
Rating: Summary: This one may be Grisham's best yet! Review: Cancel everything and read this book! I always wait forGrisham books to arrive and this one was one of my all-time favorites! The end was so unpredictable - at first I thought I didn't like the end, but the more I thought about it, the more I LOVED it! This book is for old and young alike - my teenage daughter is doing her Mystery Novel book report on it! None of us could put it down till it was finished. Behind every successful man there's a shrewd woman!
Rating: Summary: LOGOFF RIGHT NOW AND GO READ THIS BOOK. Review: Without a doubt, this is Grisham's most compelling read since"The Firm". While some readers might suffer legitmatedisappointment from the predictable ending, there is much to rejoice in the pleasures of unraveling the well-conceived plot. Halfway into the book, I was unsure whether to applaud the lead character or cheer for his utter demise. You will wish that your own attorney had half of this lead character's ability to appraise the legal forces opposing him and conceive a strategy for outwitting them. The portrayals of conflicting egos battling at the federal and state levels are amusing, and the vivid descriptions of international locales will have you itching to call your travel agent. This book has "made for the movies" written all over it. Do NOT wait for your tax refund before purchasing this book.
Rating: Summary: Grisham back to old writing style! Review: Being from Mississippi, I truly enjoy reading Grisham. When Istart them I can usually relate the story to something that hashappened here. I did not care too much for the Runaway Jury but I think The Partner is getting back to his former writing style. The twists and turns were exciting. The end left me feeling as if we need a sequel! Rating: Summary: The suspense kept you there. Review: This one initially had me cheering. Since I had it on audiocassette, my husband listened with me. He was able to see what wascoming -- until the end! ^MNeedless to say, we were both disappointed. Usually Grisham's book shows the good guy, or victim, coming out with the better end. This one, however, proved that observation was wrong.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: I'm a Grisham nut. The Partner was entertaining, thrilling, and really pulled me into the plot. I found myself feeling as if Iknew the main character, Patrick. I admired his guts and his intelligence, grimaced when the bad guys tried to make him talk, and loved the ending. John Grisham can always shock me with an unexpected twist or turn, and The Partner was no exception. It wasn't quite as good as The Runaway Jury or The Rainmaker, but it'll definately go on my "I LOVE this book! bookshelf"!
