Rating: Summary: good, but unsupported ending Review: As usual, Grisham's book was suspenseful and interesting. Thelegalities were covered niceley and all the subplots ended neatly. However, I felt that the ending was completely unjustified. The twist seemed completely implausible based on the Grisham's narrative throughout the novel. While a plot twist can be surprising, it must be supported. This one was completely unbelievable.
Rating: Summary: A must read for all lawyers and future lawyers Review: In this book, John Grisham makes it back to the days of old, when he wrote "A Time to Kill" and "The Firm"."The Partner" kept my eyes seeking out each page with zeal. Grisham captures much of the inner law firm communications, or lack thereof, and his description of money transfers and electronic wiring, show the reader that this happens every minute that the markets are open. This book will make each and every partner take notice and make sure that they have instilled appropriate procedures when it comes to money transfers and the people in the firm with the authority or the "knowledge" to do so. As a future lawyer, (December 1997), I highly recommend that each and every attorney (to-be) read this book.
Rating: Summary: John Grisham - The Partner Review: This was a page turner. I don't read very many books written by men. The ending to this book was very disapointing. You could tell it was written by a man - no romance
Rating: Summary: Disappointing...the worst John Grisham yet! Review: I have read every John Grisham novel to date, but no more. Idid not finish this novel and wish also that my money could berefunded. The usual John Grisham "legal expertise" was there, but this novel was sorely lacking in many ways. It was obviously just a vehicle for another movie script and the writing shows that he must have had a very tight deadline! Maybe it's time for John to switch to writing screenplays instead???
Rating: Summary: A quick read with predictability Review: I have read several of John Grisham's novels and was excitedabout this one after reading the first chapter on the Web before itwas released. This latest effort is a quick read -- I couldn't help wanting to turn the page to confirm/find out what happened next. I had mixed feelings about the the lead character, Patrick. Further, I had problems with the plausibility of a few aspects of the plot. I found a few things to be predictable (things were much too neatly tied together or resolved) and the manner in which Patrick's closest "friends" took his actions at face value, almost admiring him for them, were a little unbelievable. Because of my mixed feelings on Patrick's crime(s), I found the end to be appropriate. It prevented a "happily ever after" storybook finale, offsetting the problems I found with the plot. If you can overlook these "faults" THE PARTNER is a fun read and should make an interesting translation to the big screen -- since we all know it's only a matter of time ...
Rating: Summary: Who is the real Partner? Review: John's book was really good. It kept the bad guys going incircles. I really cannot say enough about this book because it waswritten in Grisham style and those of you who don't like it get another author or better yet write your own BEST SELLER. You think that it is easy when we the public wants courtroom drama from you and maybe you want to write about dogs.
Rating: Summary: Grisham should take a break Review: I think it's time for Grisham to take a break from writing anddo something else to get recharged. His best work was his first book. The next two were fairly good and different from the first, A Time to Kill. Perhaps if he took a few years off he would come up with an original storyline again. I have read all of his books but I would gladly wait several years for a quality novel.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: Enjoyed the book. Hated the ending
Rating: Summary: The Formula still works... Review: The concept showed promise throughout except for the nowconfusing, maddening, and totally abrupt ending. One can only hopethat Mr. Grisham is planning a sequel that will vindicate him of his sudden case of writer's block. The Story itself is very enthralling and well planned on the (tragic) hero's part. I am sure that in most people's minds who have read the book, the lasting image is of Patrick shining his VW Beetle in utter dejection, hoping to hear from the girl's father sometime before the milennium hits us.
Rating: Summary: DON'T READ THE LAST CHAPTER, AND YOU'LL LOVE IT Review: Yes, it was a 'regular' Grisham book, with the same lawyers, crooks, money wires, courtrooms, etc etc... But it was wellwritten. I'm confused that everyone was surprised by the ending, half way into it, I thought that's what would happen, nothing else was happening. This book would've been terrible if anything else had happened. However once again Grisham did a poor job ending it, he could've added a few more pages, drawn it out more. If you read this, stop before the end, and just make up your own ending, it'll be much more enjoyable this way.
