Summary: Buy this book for your next long flight!
Review: I am not a Grisham aficionado, but I've enjoyed each book of his that I have read. I began The Partner on a Thursday, and finished it the following Saturday, so as riveting reading, this is no exception. Grisham is compelling in twisting plots, although he has taught us to look for the twist. Grisham's wry observations about lawyerly behavior and his obvious dislike of the press are also traits we've come to expect. That is why, after 2 days of red-eyed reading, I came to the end of the book and said, "I was afraid of that." The foreshadowing could not be ignored, nor was it subtle. Still, this book is perfect for beach days, slow Sundays, or long waits in the jury room!

Summary: A good read but not Grisham's best work
Review: I read "The Partner" as soon as I could get hold of a copy as I am a big fan of Grisham's work. The story developed and unfolded in a way that typifies the authors style. The characters were beleivable and real, the situations that surrounded them kept you wanting for more. As the story developed you could feel yourself being drawn into the mysterious world of patrick lanigan, with his cunning and devious nature leaving you with doubts as to whether you should admire him or loathe him. Sandy McDermott, his one time friend and lawyer, is another well developed character. You can almost hear him being torn apart by a sense of loyalty to an old friend and his professionalism as a lawyer, this is combined with his thirst for knowledge regarding Lanigans escapades. Unfortunately I was left feeeling let down by the author, in that the ending was rather predicatable. From about 3/4 of the way into the book an obvious ending began to appear on the horizon, and it was a shame to find that this was the same ending that the author was going to leave you with.Perhaps Grisham's next work will be a return to the form he showed us in "A Time To Kill" or "The Chamber"

Summary: This book is already a classic in my opinion.
Review: This is one of the best books I have ever had the peasure of reading. The characters are interesting and the way the author doles out the pieces of the story keep you turning the pages well into the night to find out what is next. If you've never read anything by Grisham, make this the one you chose.

Summary: Great story, but the ending left a lot to be desired
Review: John, you're the greatest . . . I just hope there will be a sequel. Eva and Patrick really need to find one another.

Summary: Grisham's best book!
Review: This is an amazing book with an EQUALLY GOOD ending. I don't understand why the ending has become the subject of suck stricture, but I for one just happen to like it. Instead of spelling out the entire book in a simplistic way, he leaves the details of the ending up to us. This is one book you don't want to miss!

Summary: Fantastic beginning,horrible ending
Review: I liked this book when I started reading it. It got better and better, Patrick Lanigan had always one more surprise. And they were so clever and so logical that I couldn't believe it. I thought then that Mr.Grisham wrote his best book. I read it and read it and I changed my mind.

There are two big mistakes. Why runs Eva away when she sees the FBI people? She learned how to rescue. Patrick must have teached her that. And in the end : if a book has got its own logic in the first 460 pages why must we throw that logic away in the last 7 pages? I still don't understand why John Grisham had to end his book like this. He wanted something amazing? He did it, but that wasn't enough.

I'm waiting for his next and better book.

Summary: Graham Greene reborn
Review: After reading "The Client" and "The Firm" I decided John Grisham was not my cup of tea. He was just a lawyer who got literary lucky and would never again have to exercise his more often than not boring profession.

"A Time To Kill" (still my all-time favourite Grisham) changed my mind; the fact that a director like Coppola would spend his time on "Rainmaker" made me read that one, too. It was good.

"The Partner" is great. The "lawyer Grisham" has grown to be the "writer Grisham". The simplicity of it's plot and the masterful interweaving of it's development and characters are matched only by it's ominous and disturbing ending.

A pleasant thought occurred to me: it feels as if, through the sentences of the new Grisham, the writer I miss a lot was back: Graham Greene.

Summary: A good 460 page story, too bad he made it 467.
Review: If your really into Grisham you may consider this a ho-hum effert. However, the story is intresting and does take some unusual twists. Lanigan is a genius in legal matters but a fool in reading people. I thought Grisham was brilliant in writing such an elabrate scheme. Nonetheless, the ending left something to be desired.

Summary: GREAT BEACH READING
Review: I READ THIS BOOK WHILE I WAS ON VACATION AND I WAS SADDENED BY THE ENDING BUT MR. GRISHAM IS STILL THE MAN. I PASSED THE BOOK ALONG TO MY BOYFRIEND AND HE IN TURN PASSED IT ALONG TO A FRIEND. I DON'T KNOW WHERE MY BOOK IS AT THIS TIME BUT I'M SURE IT'S BEING ENJOYED BY WHOMEVER IS READING IT. KEEP ON WRITING MR. GRISHAM! END

Summary: Good book!
Review: This is pretty standard Grisham, but if you like him generally, you'll get a kick out of this book.
