Rating: Summary: Gave Me The Feeling Of A Patient Who is Doctor Himself.Super Review: Hi, I have been an avid reader until the late seventies when responsibilities & satellite took away the inclination to read thru voluminous pages of whatever was written. Two weks ago while buying some comics for my son I chanced upon this work & the synopsis on the rear re-woke the para-reader in me!The book was consumed in 4 days which after a non-reading period of over 15 years was a quite a come-back. To all those who want to re-start their NOVELDAYS, I can only suggest that they look upto to GRISHAMS works for a start and the joys of reading will return. The Partner has great Characters,Locales & is superbly documented wherein you really can hear the neighbourhood at the back of your house. I was truly transported alongwith Lanningan to the various spots & most certainly sensed the pain when he was tortured. Good work from a great author who can only become better. Thanks for re-inventing the BOOK-JOY which I missed all these years. Look forward to more. Also read The Street Lawyer which is also equally absorbing.Vijay Kumar Rao Parareader! END
Rating: Summary: Great Book- not so great ending Review: I am a 15 year old sophomore in Honors English classes, and I loved this book. The only bad part was the weak ending. When I was reading the book, I felt as if I was being tortured along with Patrick (or Danilo.) I would really recommend this book for anyone who's looking for a page turner!
Rating: Summary: The last Grisham book I will ever read Review: This is the first Grisham book I have read since The Client. Grisham has definitely not gotten better with age. The plot was initially interesting, but he goes nowhere with it. There are no surprises, the bad guys just give up, and the justice system gladly goes along with whatever Patrick plans. Patrick's relationship with Eva is never explained in detail, and the ending is simply an attempt to put a small measure of surprise and negativity in an otherwise bland and formula driven book.
Rating: Summary: Grisham's Best:The Most Enjoyable Read in a LONG TIME! Review: The thing that Grisham does SOOOO well in this book (about a lawyer who nabs 90 mil from his evil law firm and takes it to South America) is he sets up the scheme and then unpieces the ways the scheme was set up in a unique and original fashion. Like what David Mamet did for the now classic House of Cards, he set up the crime then took it apart. The only weakness of this energetic novel is that it never REALLY developed the whole thing about his ex-wife hiring a hitman to off the lone lawyer. The end of the book was fantastically tucked away and set up so that you want to revisit these characters, however low down and Southern they might be. Someone like Tim Burton, Barry Sonnenfeld or the Coen Brothers could do justice to this film, but David Mamet would be the ultimate choice for the screen version of this epic novel of crime, love and loss. The practice of law never looked so sinister.
Rating: Summary: boring!!! Review: my first Grisham novel, and probably my last. I read it because it was the no.1 New york Times bestseller. Well, that cannot mask its absurdity of plot, and flimsy charaterization. Why would Patrick lead his hunters to his lovely town four years after he stole 90 million dollars? Is he nuts
Rating: Summary: Unique storyline and an interesting twist. Review: I enjoyed this book perhaps better than the last two or three that John Grisham has written. The new approach to the storyline was captivating and kept me reading. I have to be "caught" in the first chapter of a book for it to keep me interested enough to go on. This one did and I now want a sequel to this one to see if boy really does get girl after all, or if she, runs off with all the money!
Rating: Summary: John Grishams Da' Bomb Review: As a 13 year old gifted student I read lots sof books and John Grishams has always been my favorite. All of his books I found to be pieces of work and everybody who likes law books should read them!!!!
Rating: Summary: Very interesting Review: It is a very good book a suggest reading it if you enjoy suspense. It is definitly a page turning novel!
Rating: Summary: He should have ended it 10 pages sooner, or 10 pages later. Review: This book had me hooked from word one. I would tell myself that I would put it down at the end of a chapter but found myself unable to do it because I just had to know "what next?". To make the story work, Grisham had to find a way for us to have sympathy for Patrick. We had to find a reason to forgive him for the wrongs he committed that got him into his predicament. Grisham did an outstanding job of doing this. He let it all out slowly, one bit at a time throughout the book, leading us on. This slow revelation along with it's fast pace and intricate plot kept the pages turning. BUT... he just couldn't leave well enough alone. The ending left me feeling angry. I was up until 1 am unable to put the book down until I finished it. As I finished, I found myself staring at the last page and turning to the next... there had to be more. He couldn't end it like that, could he? I resisted the strong urge to throw the book across the room and calmly set it on the table and walked to bed with my mouth hanging open in disbelief. The ending was an extreme let down to an otherwise wonderful book. I hope Grisham doesn't do that to us again.
Rating: Summary: Very interesting and readable but... Review: it seems that Grisham was aiming this book for the big screen again since he twisted the scenario and plot to the extreme and so evasively by not letting Lanigan clarify the murder case every time when he was asked by whosoever; his old judge friend, his lawyer Sandy...until the final chapters came but just by using a corpse as an easy way out for Lanigan and the writer himself. The final chapter of ultimate betrayal turned out to be very sad yet very illogically put... The dramatic ending was just one of the overdone twists of the plots. Quite fun for trying so hard to grap readers' attention but not a good mean to do so repeatedly often.
