Rating: Summary: Simply a pleasure to read Review: "THE PARTNER" is one of John Grisham's best novels. Grisham dazzles the reader. The novel is not a typical Grisham. But I think it's great like all his books.
Rating: Summary: Great read! Review: Great story. I didn't like the ending though! Sandy's character was superb!
Rating: Summary: loved the ending! Review: I'm surprised so many readers expressed displeasure with the ending of this book. I thought it was great. Patrick was far too smug and calculating to be a very sympathetic character, and I was vastly relieved that he got what was coming to him. I waited and waited for something to happen that would actually make me like him, but nothing did. Kudos to Grisham for a non-Hollywood ending!
Rating: Summary: Don't read the last chapter and it's excellent! Review: Lanigan's got everything meticulously planned from the very beginning to work in his favor -- and he overlooks something as obvious as the problem with the ending. That's my only complaint - I don't think Lanigan would've been so stupid as to let something like that happen so easily. Grisham books are a fun read, but I'm going to start a policy of never reading the endings -- they are all the same and rarely much fun. I think Eva's character needed a LOT more developing. Her transformation from who she was throughout the critical parts of the story to who she became in the end didn't provide enough. I want to stress again - the ending is LOUSY. It doesn't totally ruin the book because the story's great and I liked Patrick, and frankly, the ending, lousy though it may be, is glossed over so quickly that it's easy to replace those three pages with a decent ending of your own creation if you've got the imagination. Grisham just wanted to wrap it up quickly and chose to do it in the wrong way, IMHO. Otherwise, though - great read. I'm looking forward to reading the Street Lawyer to see if it's got the same stupid ending as every other Grisham novel. . . .
Rating: Summary: This book had a great plot , but I did not like the ending Review: I liked the suspense , and I was suprised by the out come. I never would have expected the ending to be so harsh
Rating: Summary: A great read by anyone's standards ! Review: It was good to read a book by the man which, at last started off some where other than Memphis, I mean, he always starts the majourity of his books here so after a while it gets a bit daunting, so when the book started in Brazil it was like a breath of freash air, and so when it did rerturn to Memephis it wasn't so bad. The book over all was a great read, although the ending was a bit lousy. Other readers think Patrick was hard to like as the main character, but I think he was quite the oppositte, espiceally the way the other four lawyers in the firm were treating, and were about to treat him, so i say good on boy-oh, so to finish, a great read, well crafted, which a lot of superises along the way, only the ending was a bit lacking. Any how, read it for yourself, it will indeed be time and money well spent.
Rating: Summary: This book helped me recover from a surgary Review: A great book, Two days after an open hart surgary, I was able to start to read - It catched me and I forgot all the pains (in comparison to Partik's pains - it was nothing) And then - the perfect surprises when you explor the details of his plan.
Rating: Summary: Another delight from Grisham! Review: There's nothing as delicious as seeing theives steal from thieves and Patrick Lanigan does it as tastily as can be. Grisham is as always the masterly story teller. Aside from the compulsive way in which the tale unfolds the local flavor of Biloxi comes out in both the characters and the setting. Somtimes Patrick seems too clever to be real, but the twists and turns of the story are so wicked that one could forgive Grisham for just a bit of overkill. I did not find the ending as bad as some readers did. Perhaps I did not develop an attachment to Patrick as some readers had and was sort of expecting the outcome-come on Grisham you could be a little less predictable-and laughed out loud at it. I was sort of expecting a scene in which Patrick engages the services of the John Stephano character though. How's that for irony? All in all another very good, if not great (like Pelican Brief) Grisham. Read it if you can risk the twist ending.
Rating: Summary: His best work so far Review: I was turned onto Grisham with The Rainmaker, and have read most of his work, being particularly disappointed with The Chamber. This is definitely his best work so far, with enough plot twists and dark humor to keep me from putting the book down.
Rating: Summary: A dissapointment Review: The main character, Patrick Lanigan is very difficult to like. Unlike Grisham's former main characters who had a valiant purpose, Lanigan performs the opposite. Skip this one and read The Firm or The Rainmaker.
