Rating: Summary: Brilliant Masterpiece of the Twisting of the Law! Review: Grisham weaves a story that is definitely a mind-gripper. His storytelling, grabs and won't let you go. The characters are colorful and believable, and you're able to almost actually feel what they're feeling. The twisting of the law, and the plot to do the twisting is perfect and sets the whole book for the thunderous ending, which brings the story back to realism. Trust is a hard-earned quality.
Rating: Summary: Not worth the time it took to read. Review: This book is a poor attempt for Grisham. The story had many holes, and the ending appeared to be so rushed as to not fit the story at all.
Rating: Summary: Totally different Grisham Review: Once again, as I read another Grisham book, I was totally engrossed in the characters, the plot, the ending, but in a different sort of way. As Grisham tells the tale of Patrick Lanigan (a.k.a. Danilo Silva), a new style of writing was shown to me, one I had never seen before in any other Grisham book. There were twisted tales, totally unbelievable happenings, and a surprising ending. Patrick Lanigan, ex-lawyer, and thief of 90 million dollars, is caught, and through the whole book, Grisham unravels the case morsel by morsel. There's crooked politicians, greedy millionaires, selfish lawyers, everything you could ever ask for. There was romance, torture, action, suspense, and shock coursing through me as I read this book. When I finished this book, I felt mixed emotions. I'm not going to give the ending away, but if you read this, just remember that justice was indeed served. I had wanted a fairy tale ending, but woke up with the harsh reality of life. This was indeed on of my favorite Grisham books, and I would highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Great book, weak ending Review: 42 of the 43 chapters were great fast paced reading, the last chapter was very weak.
Rating: Summary: Bad Ending Review: If not for the ending, I would've given 5 stars because this Grisham novel was every bit as great as his previous books. But the end left me feeling empty and chopped off, as though he ran out of ideas. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down, but wished I had before I read the ending. Actually, I wish I had thrown it across the room like the reader from Farmington, MN. It's still not a bad idea. I hope Grisham will consider a sequel--it's about the only thing that will fill the void.
Rating: Summary: Another "FIRST" for John Grisham Review: It was a story like only John Grisham can tell! I liked it mostly because it made us all think about what "REALLY" is important. Some of the most gratifying things in life is not always in having 'things' but it's often in helping other people. In this case, John was able to bring to light the wrong that had been pushed under a rug (or should I say the closing of a shelter that housed homeless people). John has a way of telling a story that keeps us all on the edge. Remember The Client? I also appreciated how he was able to depict the character's strained marriage and the woos that character felt between the two office locations. That was very interesting. It was a great book for me.
Rating: Summary: Great book! Review: This is the first book i read from this author and i seriously loved it. Yes, the end was disappointing but hey what the hec! You just have to use your imagination and figure out why it happened the way it did. Anyways this book was great. I encourage people to read it.
Rating: Summary: fast, quick and unputdownable Review: this is grisham's best. an absolutely made-for-TV book. a guy runs away with 90mill$, he's pursued, fakes his death, runs to brazil, gets caught, is brought back for the trial of the century, outwits everyone and comes out of it...unscathed right??? but thats where the ending comes in! its an absolute shocker and the only reson that this one got a 4star from me and not a 5. its not that the ending is bad. its great but just a bit too shocking,(you've just got to say.."what the...!!!") though probably justified as well. its just that it leaves one just a tad unsatisfied and that in the end is what remains. ultimately..a great book and a must read. WATCH OUT FOR THE MOVIE!!!
Rating: Summary: Good effort. Review: What do you expect after the exciting The Runaway Jury? The negotiations in the story came too easily but the ending was reasonable, nonetheless disappointing. Who wouldn't be moved by 90 million anyway?
Rating: Summary: How can anyone say this book is predictable??? Review: "The Partner" is the 3rd book I've read of Grishams..."The Testament" was the 1st which got me buying more...I read some reviews on "The Partner" and can't believe a few said it was boring and predictable!!!..I thought the plot was Brilliant!..There was no way you could predict what lies ahead..I would have given it 5 stars but I got down to the last 5 pages and then threw the book across the room..I may have not liked the ending but the book is still my Favorite!!
