Rating: Summary: The Partner is a perfect example of why I read Grisham Review: Just when I thought I'd read all of Grisham's works, I discovered I had overlooked The Partner. So, more to be able to say "I read all of Grisham's stuff" than anything else, I started reading it. And couldn't stop. I started and finished the book in a day and a half. Very engaging, very exciting. Probably my favorite of Grisham's.
Rating: Summary: The Partner Review: I thoroughly enjoyed reading John Grisham's The Partner. The novel kept me on my toes keeping up with the numerous characters and the double lives. Patrick Lanigan is supposedly dead, but his former law firm partners know differently. After finally tracking him down in Brazil, the lawyers are still unable to find the missing 90 million dollars. It seems he has just stopped worrying about being found when the lawyers discover him. Grueling questioning and long trials followed Lanigan's return to Mississippi and more would soon be revealed than was known. The novel contained lots of action, moving from country to country and never quite knowing the entire truth. It seemed that everyone was out to get everyone else. Lanigan was a smart man. His plan of escape seemed brilliantly perfect and he managed to keep the FEDs and his law partners away for quite a while. He took on a completely new identity, changing his name, his face, his skin color, his home, his language, and spreading his fortune out greatly. This was nothing but an action packed, well written novel. Grisham definitely scored big with this one. It is well worth reading and rereading.
Rating: Summary: The Partner Review: A criminal on the run has stolen ninety million dollars...and has been caught. Patrick Lanigan, who was also known as Danilo after he changed his name, faked his death and ran away to Brazil in hopes of starting a new life. He was tried for theft and murder, for the body he used when he faked his demise in a horrible car explosion. We find out later that he had only used the carcass of his dead best friend as the person in the car. His Partner, after he had been found innocent for the murder, ran away from him with most of the stolen money and this is how it ends. I thought it was another great book by John Grisham and I certainly would read another one of his.
Rating: Summary: the best grisham ever Review: this is the best book i've ever read by john grisham, and i've read alot of them.
Rating: Summary: Not to Shabby Review: My second Grisham novel and I was much more satisfied with this one than my first. I found the book to be high paced and interesting. One of those books that you start to read and just can't seem to stop. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sitting down with a good book.
Rating: Summary: Brethern Review: When Grisham writes a good one, he's good. When he doesn't, it is a good sedative. The Brethern stinks.
Rating: Summary: Grisham is good, but has nothing special. Review: That was my third try on Grisham's books, and the last one. Yes, I did enjoyed it... some sentences. The book is dull, the plot is boring and the characters are the most unreliable people you might deal with during your life. Believe me, Grisham says by the middle of the book that people with at least a little bit of culture speaks French in Brazil. He should makes better on reseaching for his next book. People who has a bit of culture here speaks English or Spanish. No French, for God's sake! I really can't understand why John Grisham is the most successful author of the planet. I see no reason for that. By the way, I do. Grisham has something called "marketing". During 24 hours a day you see the word GRISHAM throbing in your head, because all the communication means are saying his name, for you to buy his books. People turn his books into movies with famous people. Sellers are instructed to say his books are interesting. They aren't even readable! The problem is: people are so blind that buy everything that media tells you to buy. There are so better authors on the genre out there and people just don't see this. But if he's so famous, he might have something good to offer. Yes, he does. THE TESTAMENT is really an interesting book. But he's not the God in paper people want him to be. His books are just common ones. Nothing special and easily forgetable.
Rating: Summary: Never put it down! Review: This is Grisham at his absolute best. Though, I have read and thoroughly enjoyed all of Grisham's books, this is definitely his best. The interesting beginning sucks you in, the scheming middle keeps you hooked, and the ending will keep you thinking afterward. The ending is absolutely excellent! I was so surprised, I sat stunned for ten minutes after I finished it. Definitely a fast read.
Rating: Summary: Scheming and Suspenseful Review: Patrick Lanigan was a young lawyer who had recently become a partner in a propsperous law firm. Feeling a sense of hopelessness in his life, he plotted for months on how he would disappear and start a new life in a foreign country. He learned about a scheme in which his law firm would earn $90 million dollars for their client. Patrick obtained a new identity and stole the money. He started a new life in Brazil with a beautiful young woman, but was always looking over his shoulder. Four years later, he was found and tortured. He was brought back to the US and treated at a hospital while under arrest. He took that time to create an impecable defense for himself and eventually all charges were dropped and he went back to Brazil with $30 million dollars to live happily ever after. But he didn't... I would strongly recommend this book to anyone looking for an intriguing story that is a fast read. I loved the character of Patrick Lanigan, with his attention to detail and the remarkable tactics he used to win his case. I did not enjoy the ending, however, because it left you with a sense of disappointment and wonder. It was still an entertaining book that I couldn't wait to finish.
Rating: Summary: Solid Like The Rest Review: Although John Grisham sticks with a pretty simple premise for most if not all of his novels, it is pretty darn effective. The Partner is no exception. I read the first 160 pages in a few hours one evening and found it very captivating. Its very interesting as the storyline unfolds where the protaganist's character evolves into something somewhat unexpected. Grisham provides enough details and subplots to keep the story interesting yet not overly drawn out to the point where the reader is left wondering,"gee what happened?" Anyway, its a fairly quick read so go buy it.
