Summary: The Partner
Review: This book was so great I'm going to read it again. I couldn't put it down. In the beginning, when they caught Patrick, I thought it was going to be all about his trial. Instead, it was about how Patrick used his lawyer expertise to work his way out of spending even one night in jail. Sandy McDermott was one of my favorite characters because he worked so hard and put his life on hold to help Patrick. Also, I really liked Eva Miranda, through her love and commitment to Patrick, has taught me that no guy is that important to risk my life for. One of my least favorite characters was Trudy Lanigan because she is just too sleazy and she was not commited to her husband. I blame Trudy for Patrick's rebellion. Jack Stephano is not one of my favorites either, but he is a character that makes this story so interesting. When Patrick was being tortured, it made me extrememly angry. I wanted to run in and save him. Reading this novel has taught me that as long as you get an education and become good at what you do, then no one can walk all over you. This was truly a great book.

Summary: Awesome book!
Review: This book grabbed my attention from the beginning and held it to the bitter end. Full of twists...I would have never predicted how this one ended! Great book, I highly recommend it!

Summary: A Great Read for Those Wanting to "Disappear".
Review: This book irked me, at first, because I thought that Grisham had given away the climatic ending and I would just be reading on to find the facts that led to this ending. In contrast, the capture of the main character, Patrick, is far from the ending. I read the book yearning for all of the tidbits that landed Patrick in his vulnerable situation. After awhile, you learn to respect Patrick, and his ability to impeccably plan. Ironically, the only thing Patrick couldn't plan is the one thing that catches him in the end. One of my more favorite characters, was Trudy, Patrick's wife. Although she was greedy, shallow, and extremely predictable, we can all identify with someone of her likeness. One of the philosophical points of the book relays the message that everyone wants to get away, or to disappear in some way. I, as well as many Grisham readers identified with this statement. I was very surprised by the ending and a bit disappointed. The hopeless romantic in all of us wants things to go another way, but the justice part of us feels that Patrick deserves this ending. Overall, an excellent read. A must read for those feeling they need to get away from jobs, families, and responsibilities.

Summary: Well written....Poor ending
Review: The Partner kept my interest all the way through the book. I loved the excitement and the story was super. But what was on John's mind with the ending. I kept wanting more. I felt maybe he is planning on making this book a sequel or something. It left me hanging for more.

I have been so impressed with John Grisham books since I read The Testament. I had to go back and read several others however I was so disappointed with the ending of The Partner's I will think twice before reading another book by him for a while.

Summary: Extremely clever, well written, but a poor ending.
Review: The way Patrick's diabolically clever plan is always one step ahead of everyone, anticipating all moves and having planned his responses before they know what's about to hit them, is a joy to read. Yes, make it a movie! (But not starring Harrison Ford.)

However, the reason so many were disappointed with the ending is that it is utterly unrealistic. The woman was portrayed as being totally in love with Patrick and completely loyal to him; there was never any indication otherwise, and certainly no indications that she might in the end desert him for apparently no reason just when they had won it all--especially after what they had been through together. (Some would say, perhaps, that she might still show up someday, but that's not the feeling one gets upon putting the book down.) A more realistic ending would have had them quietly meeting at a far-away train station in god-knows-where, holding hands and looking each other in the eye, with a very satisfied smile crossing their lips.

It's hard to put this book down, but do so when you reach the last two pages or so, and imagine your own ending.

Change it, and make the movie. (Pierce Brosnan and Katherine Zita-Jones?).

Summary: Mediocre book, TERRIBLE ending.
Review: I've read Grisham's Testament, Firm, Runaway Jury. This one was my fourth book by Grisham and definitely, my last. The character is annoying and empty. The plot is unrealistic. But the ENDING ruined it all. Was Eva killed? Did she run off with the money? Who could have killed her and why would she run with the money after this hard work? Terribly disappointing. I am going back to the store today and I'll get my money back.

Summary: A substandard Grisham novel.
Review: John Grisham is an excellent writer. Having said that I'm not sure what happened when he wrote this book.

The story had many holes, and the ending appeared to be so rushed as to not fit the story at all.

Definitely not one of his better works.

Summary: Shaky Partner
Review: The Partner has an interesting plot, but fails to deliver on it. A lawyer fakes his own death, steals 90 million from his partners and escapes to South America. Patrick Lanigan is the lawyer and after four years, he is caught and brought back to Biloxi to face charges against him. Before returning he is almost tortured to death and due to this he is allowed to stay in a hospital instead of jail. While in the hospital he clues his lawyer and his judge friend in on the details of his escape. Everything falls into place too easily and of course Patrick gets away with everything. No one would have as much luck as he had or be that smart to get away with it and it makes the story not very believable. The ending does a fairly interesting twist, but the problem with it is that you see it coming about five chapters before it happens.

Summary: Another Mind-Boggling Novel from Grisham
Review: John Grisham's, "The Partner", is a great novel that had my attention from the beginning. As John Grisham so often does, he pulled me into this story from the very beginning. A fast start that involved the torture of a runaway lawyer who was presumed dead four years earlier was Grisham's thrilling start. In past novels that I have read by John Grisham, he usually takes a certain path at the beginning of the book and sticks with it. However, in "The Partner", he did the exact opposite by taking many different branches of the story and then tying them all together as the story developed. Patrick Lanigan, the runaway lawyer, is the protagonist of this story that is not easily distinguished from the onset of the story. He watched his own funeral from a tree in the woods. He simply comes into his role as the story begins to take shape and progress even though you may not like him from the first few chapters. This story is simply to good to give away and has many legal twist and turns that will simply boggle your mind. Of the Grisham books that I have read, this one has done the best job of keeping my attention and making me wonder what will come next. This is a must read for any Grisham fans and a must read for readers who simply enjoy a good read.

Summary: The Run-away Lawyer
Review: This is a book about a lawyer who pretends to die in a car fire. He takes someone's already dead body and replaces it for his and runs away. He watches his funeral from a tree and then steals 90 million dollars from his firm. He had just learned that the firm was ripping off other companies and their total revenue from it was exactly 90 million dollars. So pretty much the lawyer was taking stolen money. He ran off to Brazil, with a new identity and a new life. He had lost over 100 pounds, and had a different name and spoke almost perfect Portuguese. It was hard to find him but they did it. Unfortunatly, the group secretly hired by the lawyer's firm found him first and almost tortured him to death. The FBI interfered and Patrick, the lawyer survived. He had major burns from the electricity on his chest and thighs. Patrick had given away the name of the woman who controlled his money, and now all they had to do was find her. It was quickly known that she had skipped town. They spent extra money to find her, but they never did. This story has many more twists and turns that you could have never expected. There are mutiple double-crosses and unexpected angles on something new.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes mysteries, and anything with non-stopping action. In this book it is impossible to guess what happens next. It is just so interesting to see all the different twists that the story unfolds as it goes on. You might expect a perilous ending, yet he ends up without a sentence at all. Everyone get out here and read this book!
