Summary: A Partner in Crime
Review: Money is essentially the principal character in Grisham's new thriller, and there is a large sum of it involved. Ninety million to be exact, which has motivated Gulf Coast lawyer Patrick Lanigan to concoct a scheme to disappear with all of it in hand. It is money that drove a crooked defense contractor to try to pry loose a huge sum from Washington, and got Patrick's greedy law firm involved in the first place. And it is varying sums of money that enable Patrick to bribe his way out of a collection of indictments against him a yard long including one for first-degree murder when he is eventually found in his Brazilian hideaway and brought back to the U.S. to face the music. Even when tortured by his captors, Patrick can say he doesn't know where the money is, because only his Brazilian lover, fellow lawyer Eva Miranda, really knows and no one knows where she is. To call the plot of The Partner mechanical is at least partly a compliment; it is well oiled, intricate and works smoothly. But its cynicism is remorseless; Patrick Lanigan is hardly a hero to warm to, despite his ingenuity. He is all calculation, and when it seems as if someone has even double-crossed him, it is still difficult to muster up any sympathy for the man. In Grisham's world money rules, and it is a sign of weakness to ignore its power. If you're looking for emotion, look elsewhere, but if you're dying for action and suspense, The Partner certainly satisfies. Grisham has blended so many twists and turns into this story, that you will need a neck brace for the whiplash at the end. Maybe the best John Grisham has indeed stood up, with riveting story telling, political and social insight into the mechanisms of law, and a tale that engrosses from start to finish.

Summary: OK book, with a lousy ending
Review: I liked this book better than I thought I would, considering the limited scope of the plot. After all, most of the story takes place with Patrick, the runaway lawyer, in custody. The story takes many unpredictable turns and is, for the most part, plausible. But the ending is disappointing, and somewhat unbelievable given Eva's risk-taking behavior throughout the book. Still worth a look and one of Grisham's better efforts.

Summary: The First Thirty Pages
Review: The Partner by John Grisham is non-stop action, for the first thirty pages. The next three hundred pages or so that follow, is nothing more than a man sitting in a hospital bed telling his lawyer how he made it all happen. You see, Patrick Lanigan, the main character was a lawyer at a prominant lawfirm before he stole 90 million dollars from them, faked his own death and was on the run for four years until he was caught. That was the exciting part of this book, the first thirty pages. After you read the first thirty pages put the book down or go on the run for four years yourself because that is how long this book seemed to read.

Summary: Great Book!
Review: The Partner is very interesting in how the plot unfolds after the actual events have already happened. The high points and suspenseful moments in the book usually take place when someone is having a flashback or explaining an event that happened in the past, a great departure from Grisham's other books. But I must say that Grisham pulls it off flawlessly, incorporating a great story of a man who steals millions and runs away from it all. Just when you think you have the story figured out, the ending throws you for such a huge loop! It's great! A must-read for any Grisham fan.

Summary: Hmm...do me a favor and skip the first few pages
Review: The book was good, suspenseful, BUT...the torture was not seeminlgly pleasant. If you don't want to read all that *gory* stuff about these tubes suctioned onto his body, then just skip through that. The book was good. Go ahead and read it, just skip through the first part.... Or you'll scream. ....

Summary: SHOCKINGLY Great!!!
Review: This book takes place by the jungles in Brazil where Patrick Lanigan is hiding for his LIFE! From his old firm he stole $90,000,000. There will be a trial held at his former town with former colleagues. Patrick uncovers startling truth about his old law firm........... I really injoyed this book. It was very cleverly written. Grisham pulled off a masterpiece.

Summary: Enthralling suspense from start to finish (k.m.-3)
Review: This book was so great I am going to read it again. I couldn't put it down. In the beginng when they caught Patrick I thought it was going to be all about his trial. Instaed it was about how Paterick used his laywer expertise to work his way out of even spending one night in jail. Sandy McDermott was one of my favorite chahracters because he worked so hard and put his life on hold to help Patrick. Also I really liked Eva Miranda thruogh her love and commitment to Patrick has taught me that no guy is worth risking my life. One of my least favorite character was Trudy Lanigan because she is just too sleazy and not commited to her husband, I blame her for Patrick's rebellion. Jack Stephano is not one of my favorites either, but he is a good part of the story that makes it so interesting. During Patrick's torture, I wanted to run in and save him. Reading this novel has taught me that as long as you get an education and become good at what you do, then no one can walk all over you.
