Summary: Great Characters Revisited
Review: Can there be anything more exciting than following the adventures of Mitch Rapp as he moves in and out of Washington's political morass and intrigue. Renewing acquaintances with Thomas Stansfield and Dr. Irene Kennedy, as well as President Hayes add to the pleasure of the novel. Vince Flynn has created exceptional characters and placed them in exciting venue after venue. It is difficult to put the book down and upon conclusion the reader will be anxious for the publication of the sequel. It is just a great book.

Summary: When is the sequel due?
Review: Another great political thriller by Vince Flynn, but the ending leaves us hanging. Needs a sequel to conclude the story. Too bad, but I hate reading an entire book, only to be left in limbo on the last page.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: 75 pages short of complete
Review: Flynn's books are real page-turners, and The Third Option is no exception. Sadly, The Third Option is fatally flawed. It is at best an appetizer for future works. With thirty pages to go the reader realizes that Flynn had better hurry if he is to pull together the loose ends before he runs out of pages. With twenty pages to go the reader realizes Flynn is not going to make it. In fact, Flynn never does finish the story. It is no wonder other reviewers write that they cannot wait for the sequel, the Third Option has no ending. It merely ends leaving every significant issue unresolved. Consequently, readers of The Third Option need not wait until the end of the book to feel cheated, they can stop reading at any point in the book because readers will know as much at the end of each chapter as they know at the end. This is a miserable excuse for a novel by an author who has already proven he can do better. Readers of Flynn's fourth or eighth or twelfth book, please do me a favor and let me know how this story ends, if it ever does.

Summary: Another GREAT one!
Review: I agree with some previous reviewers that this is not quite as intense as the first two, but nonetheless, it is still a great book. All the characters are back...and I love them all! But even if one hadn't read the first two books, their history is explained and this story stands alone quite well. I had been waiting for another Vince Flynn novel and didn't realize it had been out for a while or I would have cleared my calendar and read it months before. I, for one, am glad that a certain sneaky senator will be back and am quite anxious to see how Mitch Rapp responds when he finds out a few things. Oh, hurry Mr. Flynn, hurry!

Summary: Can't wait for the sequel
Review: Vince Flynn's books are like Tom Clancy's without the minutiae that characterize all of Clancy's novels, which as far as I am concerned is a definite negative for Mr. Clancy. As far as the ending, well I had to wait three years (in the 1980's) for the sequel to Star Wars--The Empire Strikes Back. Oh well, when Mr. Flynn's next book comes out, we will see what happens to Mitch Rapp and the rest of his team--I can't wait. I highly recommend this book, although "Term Limits" was by far my favorite, mainly because I wish that the senario would happen in real life.

Summary: Very good
Review: This book builds on his former 2 hits "Term Limits" and "Transfer of Power". Although the book stands alone it helps to have read the previous ones. Both of which are also very good.

This book continues on with the story of Mitch Rapp who is a top notch spy/assassin. He is double crossed and returns to find out who set him up. Other characters from the previous books show up and have good parts. I think the story was well written and characters well fleshed out (maybe because I already knew them from the previous stories).

I did drop it a star because the book ended setting up another sequal (however I am ready to buy and read the sequal).

Summary: The Third Option
Review: While worth reading, not Flynn's best work. His first 2 books were better, especially in their ability to keep you hooked. If your going to read a Flynn, read "Term Limits". Read this book when you're already a Flynn fan.

Summary: just a review
Review: overall, i thought this was a good book. i could tell i was reading the second in a series which was kind of annoying. i was a little disappointed in the ending...which i won't give away. i did like the action and the intrigue though. needless to say, this is a good book and i would like to read the next one by flynn!

Summary: A SUSPENSEFUL, ACTION-PACKED NOVEL!
Review: THE THIRD OPTION by Vince Flynn is the type of thriller that fans of the espionage/political intrigue genre are always on the lookout for. The novel deals with Mitch Rapp who is a member of the CIA's highly secret Orion Team. He's their top assassin. When the first option of diplomacy and the second option of military force fail, the United States turns to its third option of covert action as a way of dealing with terrorist's attacks. It is our last option of fighting back, and it usually involves assassination. Mitch Rapp is on the verge of resigning from the CIA. He has met the woman of his dreams and wants to live a normal life. He decides, however, to take one last assignment. His job will be to go into Germany as part of a team and assassinate a German industrialist who has been selling materials for building a nuclear device to one of our country's leading enemies. What Rapp isn't aware of is that he's to be killed after he completes his mission. When the German police find his body next to that of the industrialist, the CIA will be publicly blamed, thus ending the career of Irene Kennedy, head of the department that runs the Orion Team and who is slated to take over as Director of the CIA. Rapp isn't an easy man to eliminate. The people assigned to take him out fail in their attempt. Returning to the United States by covert means, Rapp is determined to track down the individuals who tried to kill him and to extract the names of those in the U.S. Government who authorized the hit. Rapp doesn't care how high up the list of names goes; if he has his way, he will kill every last one of the people involved in this conspiracy. THE THIRD OPTION has the ring of authenticity about it that strongly reminded me of the earlier novels of Tom Clancy. Its author has a real working knowledge of the Central Intelligence Agency and is able to take the reader deep behind the scenes of intelligence gathering and covert assassination, not to mention the dynamics that come into play as the Agency struggles to survive the manipulations of Congress and the President of the United States. Though the plot of this novel is complex in nature, there is certainly enough action to keep us diehard fans of the "spy" genre glued to our seats as we try to desperately guess the ending. I will say this about the final outcome; as in real life, the bad guys don't always get what's coming to them. I have to also say that I really enjoyed the character of Mitch Rapp. Here is a man with a strict code of honor who isn't afraid to kill in order to protect himself or his loved ones. This is certainly the type of guy you want as a friend and not as an enemy. I hope the author will continue to write future novels with Mitch Rapp in them. He's got a great character here. Anyway, if you want to enter the New Year with some fun reading, pick up a copy of THE THIRD OPTION, then check out the first two novels by Vince Flynn, TERM LIMITS & TRANSFER OF POWER.

Summary: Good Reading...but...
Review: This is my third Flynn Book in as many weeks and it lacks the intensity of the first two. I sensed Flynn pushed the manuscript through a little to fast and was not able to offer the quality equal to his first two books. My advice would be to wait for the paperback. Warning: If you insist on reading The Third Option, I would strongly suggest that you read Term Limits and Transfer of Power first. Reading both beforehand will offer greater insight into those who Mitch Rapp trusts and why and frankly they're both great books. Otherwise some of the pieces will not fit.
