Rating: Summary: Another Excellent Book! Review: I was thrilled to see another Vince Flynn book. I was not dissapointed. The continuation of the characters in previous novels is something I particularly enjoy. However, even though the characters from previous novels are used, this book can stand alone. I read the previous reviews and many of them already explain the plot, so what more can I say. The plot is well written and very exciting. Although the end left room for another novel, it didn't leave you hanging. I gave this a four only because I think that it is not 'as good' as his previous novels. However, just because it's not as good as his other novels does not mean it's not good. I enjoyed this book. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: How disappointing! Buy Flynn's next for the end. Maybe.... Review: Flynn's first two were thrilling though implausible (but that's why we read, right?). Third Option rates one star because it's just the first part of the story. We want to see the bad guys get their just desserts, but at the end of this one the baddest is still on the loose. In other words, you've bought just an installment in this particular story. Wonder how many volumes it will take to get satisfaction?
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I thoroughly enjoyed Vince's first two books and enthusiastically purchased The Third Option. True to his first two novels, I could not put the book down until I was done reading it. I found the story very compelling. One problem however,...the book does not end. After spending the time (late nights and early mornings) feverishly reading the book, I arrived at the end and the story continued. I was very disappointed. I will try Vince again on his fourth book, but if the fourth one doesn't end, I'm out. There are too many other books competing for my time.
Rating: Summary: Mitch Rapp is no Jack Ryan Review: Obviously Vince Flynn is attempting to capture some of the magic of Tom Clancy's work by incorporating a re-occuring character in his series of political thrillers. However, it just doesn't work. After having read Term Limits and Transfer of Power, I started to get an uneasy feeling, but decided to give Third Option a look-see. Unfortunately, my instincts were correct. It appears that Mr. Flynn has now decided to try to fool his readers into buying a "serial" novel, instead of individual books. The beauty of Tom Clancy's work is that you can basically read any of his books without having any knowledge of what has happened before or after the events that take place during the reading. Flynn won't let us do that. He has to constantly make references to sub-plots and characters that only make sense if you have read his previous work, and of course he feels he has to explain part of the story to the readers who aren't familiar with the past. In addition, the ending (or lake thereof) of this novel makes me want to go punch the guy in the mouth. It's as if he's written one long book, and picks 30 chapters out of the middle of it, and calls it "The Third Option" Well, I am going to be taking a "Fourth Option" in this case: Never buying another one of Vince's books.
Rating: Summary: A Book With No Ending Review: Vince Flynn is capable of writing a nice thriller, but The Third Option was a huge disappointment for me. This is a serial novel that has no ending. I liked Transfer of Power and Term Limits, but if Flynn pulls this stunt again, he will lose this reader.
Rating: Summary: WHAT A LET DOWN Review: I could not put this book down for very long. It had suspense, drama, intrigue, and other great qualities. BUT--I could not believe the author would leave me hanging at the last page!! The story does not have an ending!! I will not buy any more books by this author as he evidently a continued serial writer. Victor Cassano
Rating: Summary: Page Turner Review: Vince Flynn has it down. Not only is his timing excellent (unfortunately due to 9/11/01), but his style and stories are engrossing. Terrorists, covert operations, Middle East political unsteadiness - all are the basis by Flynn. If you liked Jack Ryan in the series by Tom Clancey, you'll love Mitch Rapp. You won't stop with only one of his books. Read them in order to get the best story line.
Rating: Summary: Fast, fun read - BUT NO ENDING!! Review: After the events of Sept. 11, I wanted a quick, thrilling "take-your-mind-off" things kind of book. So I picked up Flynn's book and found myself interested - decent little plot, some serpentine twists and turns, some interesting characters (the guy CAN write), some technical espionage/terrorist stuff...took me back to my old Ludlum-reading days. Then, as the book started to have fewer and fewer pages remaining, I discovered the plot was not going to end - that is, the "bad guys" were not going to get theirs! That would have to wait, apparently, for another book/sequel? Well, fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice...I think not. It killed time, but was unsatisfactory otherwise.
Rating: Summary: Incomplete, yet satisfying Review: This is the second of Vince Flynn's books that I have read, and I am looking for more. While I agree with the reviewer who says that the book is incomplete and serves as an introduction to the next, the story is well written and sufficiently satisfying that I would buy the book again. I enjoy Flynn's work as much or more as I did Clancy's when he was at his best.
Rating: Summary: Needless to say I will be buying the follow up Sep of Power Review: I found that this was a great book. The plot was very interesting and the characters and the locations kept changing without becoming confusing. These were real 'characters' in this book. The Professor sounds like a nut job. Took about a week to read it and have purchased Seperation of Power which is the follow up. I am new to this author but it was a good book and look forward to reading his others.
