Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK IS OFF THE CHARTS!!! Review: This Daniel Silva novel is without question one of the top three books I have ever read. If you're a fan of historically based fiction, then this book is an absolute must read! I pray that his latest two novels are just as enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Traveling to Turkey has never been so much fun. Review: While traveling to Turkey I had the opportunity to pass my time by reading "The Unlikely Spy." It was fun reading about Ireland, England and Germany while actually flying 30,000 above them..kind of putting me in the action. Looking forward to reading the other stories by Silva.
Rating: Summary: The Unlikely Spy is a masterpiece of intrigue. Review: Author Daniel Silva spools a yarn that is a thrill a minute. His characters are especially outstanding, and the storyline permits the reader to feel as if they are right there in the Allied spy headquarters in London. This is a must read for any mystery buff.
Rating: Summary: A REAL COOL PORTRAYEL OF BEING A NAZI SPY Review: Daniel Silva is a great author and this book was one of my favorites EVER! And also anothe great book by Silva is The Mark of the Assasin. But, first, you must read this.
Rating: Summary: A definite fast-pace page turner Review: I am not going to talk about how it got 4 stars. Instead, I am going to briefly describe why it missed 1. Silva introduced many characters into the book, and that's okay as long as he pays attention into giving them a life from the start until the end. It is very understandable that Silva wants this war thriller to evolve around different groups of people. A team would accomplish something. One man or woman would not. Since the beginning of the book (as well as the short summary on the back of the book), every reader would get the impression that Catherine Blake was bound to be a very important character, and indeed, she was. Silva talked a lot about her and went deep into personal life. He let her stand out among all the others. Yet, at the end, when the action is fast and furious--Warning: Plot Spoil--she was ended in a sentence. She was gone right an instance and the story just moved forward as if she was no one. One might say that I am too emotionally involved, but I think that she deserved respect from the book, the readers, and as well, the author himself. If she was to disappear fast, she should have come fast, too, not slowly like picture being painted. I would say the same for Neumann but Silva was lucky not to mention him much except necessarry. On the contrary of all that, Alfred Vicary, possibly the most important character of all, didn't get his fair share of the page. He should be the one the that reader would always remember. He should be the one to stand out and get mentioned every time the title comes up in a conversation. Yet, I still believe that any readers of this book would pretty much remember Catherine Blake. Silva should have made up his mind what to focus on, the character, the characters, or the actual spying world? The only problem with The Unlikely Spy is that, it has too many sub plots. At one time, we are asked to endure the romance between Peter Jordan and Catherine Blake as though it would lead to something special. The sweet talk. The committment they made to each other. The passionate "love". Author spent a lot of time setting up the meeting but to diminish it into the air when Blake was discovered to be a spy. It's like nothing matters between them anymore. At another time, we are asked to patiently follow into the world of spying and deception where every character's not as he or she appeared to be. It's fun. It's interesting. But it would be much better if it's continuous instead of cut off as segments only to be reconnect after 20 pages in between. Well, that's enough said about the book. The reason why it got 4 stars need not be mentioned. Over all, this book is impressive. Silva did a good job at fact-findings. Everything is painted into the picture, piece by piece. It's like feeding a spoonfull of food to a baby. I rather enjoy it. It's no fun that everything is revealed in the first half. Silva, although didn't mentioned much clues in the first half, was still able to keep me turning the page under the dim bed lamp 3 in the morning. He has a good beginning. I hope that he has what it takes to stay.
Rating: Summary: A terrific portrayal of World War II Review: In this classic World War II novel, The Unlikely Spy, Silva tells the shocking story of the Allie's impossible struggle to keep Hitler in the dark about the invasion plans of Normandy. From cardboard cutouts of planes and tanks, to building a false port, he explains it all with exquisite detail. With a combination of fictional characters and a thrilling plot, Silva will keep you reading for hours on end. A must read.
Rating: Summary: One of the best WWII novels EVER Review: As an avid and critical reader of all kinds of books, I have to say that this is one of the best WWII novels I have ever read. It's right up there with Harris' "Fatherland" and "Enigma". BRILLIANT! I can hardly wait for it to be made into a film, and I would like to see a return of Alfred Vicary, an unlikely but credible hero. BRAVO!
Rating: Summary: Non-stop suspense and tremendous imagery Review: Daniel Silvas's The Unlikely Spy is a book that is worth reading. Silva managed to present ideas on human behavior, love, and the Self using an intriguing tale of World War II. All the different events in the story are so clearly described, that one feels as though the story is taking place in real life. This book is a must-read!
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: Being super-critical of every book that comes across my hands, I was blown away by this spy thriller. Not only does Silva humanize the story with rich, three-dimensional characters, he also doesn't let the action get stale. It was filled with tension all the way to the last page. This book will certainly be one of the high standards of spy thrillers to come. Pick up Fatherland if you liked SPY!
Rating: Summary: Good read, great charcters, ending is so so Review: This is a good book with some great characters and a good plot. It is suspenseful but the ending was kind of a let down for me, hence only 4 stars. I'm not sure what I was expecting, just not what I got.
