Rating: Summary: An important book; perhaps his best... Review: I was shocked that I could enjoy a Grisham book as much as I did this one. (I have never been able to get past the first chapter of any of this others.) This seems to be his truly radical book - the one he wrote with real passion because someone he knew died of cancer and his hatred burned so bright for the tobacco companies that he actually wrote a flowing, textured work.My own mother died of lung cancer at the untimely age of forty-eight (she started smoking at thirteen). This book took me back to that terrible experience. Indeed, if this book had come out twenty years ago, when she died, I might have sued the tobacco company whose cigarettes she smoked. I was in my mid-twenties and I have never never gotten over her painful and unneccessary death. Is this book too radical for the movies? I haven't heard that it was going to be produced. It should be. It would make a dynamite film; imagining who would play the various parts was half the fun of the novel.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: I loved this book, the characters were so diverse it made an intense read. I couldn't put it down, and I recommend this to other Grisham fans.
Rating: Summary: A great book for anyone Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a very captivting story. I thought that it was going to be a very perdictable ending, but it turns out that is wasn't. Some parts of the book did drag a bit, especially during the trial when all of the doctors gave their testamony. I would recommend it to anyone. It is very interesting and thrilling!
Rating: Summary: Excellent... Review: Spectacular read. This book makes jury duty sound like fun. Any book that can do that has got to be great. I like the ending. Those tobacco companies deserve everything they get.
Rating: Summary: A light, compelling read... Review: This book didn't lack punch and was an incredibly easy read. I highly recommend it for travelling and other light reading.
Rating: Summary: Runaway Hit! Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Like in "The Firm," I found myself rooting for the little guy gunning against the huge tobacco industry. I'm not sure that one or two people could really control a jury like that, but it was great fun to believe it was true. If you liked The Firm, you'll like this one.
Rating: Summary: my favorite grisham pick Review: so it doesn't have anything to do with the mob, just a guy trying to screw the tobacco companies after his girlfriend's mother dies of lung cancer. who cares? this book is awesome, and i don't use the word lightly. about the tedium of trial and ruthless revenge, a great read.
Rating: Summary: Grisham's best Review: This was a fantastic book. The characters were well developed, the story kept me interested at all times, and I wish I could listen to it again for the first time. I've listened to about 8 books ( all unabridged ) and this was by far the best!
Rating: Summary: Good but not the best Review: Had it not been 550 of out times laborious reading, I'd have slapped another star on this good but not great Grisham. He stiches the plot together meticulously, but the characters the reader should most care about -- Nicholas and Marlee -- were shortchanged in the end. Marles's motivation is skimmed over, though extremely predictable. The climax was a giveaway 50 pages before it happened. But Grisham's storytelling power was still maintained, yet the ending was a bit unrealistic.
Rating: Summary: You'll love this one as much as the others Review: Mr. Grisham has done it again. This is the 7th Grisham book I've read, and I love it as much as the others. He develops the charcters so well. He develops the plot along with it. It took me only a week to read it in between my homework assignments. The way Grisham makes Nicholas act like a normal juror shows how great of a mind he has. Grisham's plot is unlike any other of his books, but then aren't they all original. Buy this and you're in for a great time.
