Rating: Summary: Boring Review: Let me save you some time. If you are not a Grisham fan, skip this book. This story of jury manipulation is not only not plausible, but also boring.I cannot figure out why all these people keep giving Grisham great reviews.
Rating: Summary: Does this really happen?? Review: Wow, can this really happen in real life? I have served on 6 to 8 juries in the past and it really makes me wonder if one person could sway an entire group. Grisham does a good job of setting up the case - the various parties and their stake in the game. The book weaves the tale of one person who is placed on the jury and little by little gains the trust of the group. His role is to sway to group to vote a certain way - it's wonder to watch how the story unfolds and find out how he is able to manipulate a diverse group of people. Good book!!
Rating: Summary: Interesting Review: I find this book very good as the most of Grisham's books. I was reading it in one breath but I was surprised about the end.
Rating: Summary: An Edge-of-Your-Seat Thriller! Review: This novel is a very suspense-packed mystery that truly kept me on the edge of my seat! As the plot thickens and more is unraveled about the true identity if the characters, I found it harder with each page to put it down. As a complex trial unfolds about the responsibilty of a bigshot tobacco company to compensate a widow of a 35-year smoker, the company is left worring about bankruptcy and a chain of other lawsuits to follow. I find myself disgusted by the measures both sides of the case take in order to ensure a victory in their favor. Jury tampering, bribery, harrassment...although these tactics are wildly immoral, they contribute to a plot dripping with mystery. The anonymous phone calls only add to the thickening drama. My favorite element in the book was Nicholas' and Marla's motive in the end. I think it brings the book to a good close and leaves the reader with a great message about humanity and responsibility.
Rating: Summary: Gripping, but not from beginning to end. Review: I really enjoyed this book, over a period of a few weeks i read a few pages each night. In the middle of the book, it gripped me. I read for the rest of the night and finished it in the morning. the book is very intresting. I enjoyed it more than A TIME TO KILL and i consider it equally as good as the FIRM. If you're into Grisham's style, than definetly read this one.
Rating: Summary: Too Much Litigation Review: I'll bet that half of this book was courtroom litigation, and this was not interesting to me. I enjoyed the jury scheming and the personalities on the jury, but I didn't read the testimony and began to skip over ALL of it once I realized just how tedious it was going to be. Why did I do that?!? Because everyone knows that nicotine is addictive and that it kills. Did we need more than 150 pages to tell us that?? In fact, I got the gist of the ending, without spending all that time in the actual courtroom.. So, was it all necessary to the book? I don't think so. I'm not saying for some that this book would not be an interest, but I'm more attracted to human relationships and not all these lawyers and repetitious testimony.. Jeez, turn on FOX or MSNBC right now and you'll get more real-life litigation than you'll ever need to see!
Rating: Summary: Another Great Grisham Novel!! Review: "The Runaway Jury" was a fun book. It involves a very touchy subject about the tobacco companies targeting children. This story was very entertaining because you don't know who is on which side of the case until the very end. The book takes several characters with the focus being on Nicholas Easter. Nicholas is the biggest mystery character I've ever read about. You don't know much about him at all until you are about three quarters of the way through the book. This book has many twists and turns and I was totally captivated. I think Grisham is a wonderful author and would recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Predictable... Review: Tabacco companies were lucky in the courtrooms so far - they always managed to have favorable juries - even after using illegitimate methods to gain certain jurors' favors. But they haven't figured they'd ever be double crossed or used, until they were... Even though I truely agree with the book's anti smoking message, I still wasn't "hooked" on this book - I found the story quite predictable....
Rating: Summary: A great read. Period. Review: A lot of reviewers like to use the review phrase "A page turner!" on quite a few books. Well this one more then deserves it. This book kept me up five straight nights in a row, while trying to keep my eyes open, just to read ONE more page.
Rating: Summary: A really good read Review: I recently re-read this book and i've decided to write this as i really recommend it to other people. I admit I have not read all of John Grisham's books including some of his more well known ones like A Time To Kill but i thought that this has to be up there as one of his best. It was really entertaining and i couldn't put it down for long periods i became really invlolved. The style of writing just carries you along and you become part of the story. The plots of Nicholas and Claire are original and very intelligent and there is a wide variety of characters and it even makes you think a little more about the justice system. The only thing that is slightly negative is that the storyline is a little out there as i think a jury holding that much power is a little unlikely but it's still a wonderful read.
