Summary: Another Gem by Grisham
Review: What a captivating story, Grisham writes a story that keeps you flipping pages, long after bed time. This is about a HUGE tobacco lawsuit and the court proceedings. The whole country is waiting with baited breath for the outcome. The result could turn the tobacco industry upside down overnight.

The book concentrates on the jurors, with outstanding detail. One juror, Nicholas Easter, has the ability to manipulate the jury to a degree that will blow your mind.

The behind the scenes business by the jury consultants is devious, yet fascinating. The whole story made me wonder, "Does this really happen?". I highly recommend it.

Summary: Grisham's Best Novel
Review: Grisham packs more suspense and complexity into this novel than any of his previous ones. This courtroom thriller takes us into the biggest tobacco case of the century, which is directly related with the scam of the century. The mysterious Nicholas and cunning Marlee are running the show now, and they promise to deliver the perfect verdict for the tobacco companies. Their price: ten million dollars. But as their mysterious past is revealed, we are forced to wonder exactly what their intentions truly are. This book examines the entire tobacco industry, from the lobbyists to the execs, and it succeeds on all levels. You might be tempted to turn to the end to see how it all turns out, but you wouldn't dare think of putting it down. Outstanding.

Summary: Happy Easter
Review: Grisham is excellent at setting up suspense. The pacing of the book is remarkable as each new chapter reveals a bit more of the story. The supporting characters are particularly memorable. Hoppy, the husband of juror Millie, goes through such anguish in the real estate scam set up by the tobacco company that it really touches your heart. But feeling the inside of characters is where the novel seems to fall more into pop fiction than significant literature. Nicholas Easter, the lead, seems more like a mechanism than a man. We're not given enough inner life to see if he's madly in love with Marlee and motivated by that love; or if he's simply the disillusioned law student trying to write the wrongs of big tobacco. We see what he does and are riveted by the rush of events, but we don't feel what he feels. The character of Fitch, the dirty-dealing, jury-tampering intelligence of the tobacco companies is drawn appropriately sinister and dark. We see enough of him to be intrigued, but also miss enough of the man inside to really qualify him as an arch villain. This book works well as a page-burning suspense novel. With a little more insight into human nature, it might also have been a remarkable book. Enjoy Grisham for his command of pacing and sturcture; he is a master!

Summary: not bad, but not really good either
Review: This book starts out slow, but as you read on for a few chapters it becomes very riveting. There's always some sort of mystery, always something you don't know. But, the end was really what brought it down to four stars. It was all good up to the last few chapters. But maybe it's supposed to be that way, maybe the ending isn't supposed to set well with the reader. Anyway, this book has made me more wary of trial verdicts. Overall it's a good book and is worth your time.

Summary: Excellent Book
Review: I am a teenager who likes science-fiction and mystery books who picked up this book just for the sake of reading something for English. I don't like books that don't get you hooked at the beginning, and returned many books because of that. This book was different. It was suspenseful right from the beginning to the end. The ending was great, one of the best book endings I've ever read. If I like this book, I don't know why anyone wouldn't.
