Summary: Transfer Of Power a thrill, couldn't put it down
Review: I am constantly looking for books in the Clancy/Ludlum mold. Flynn is easily the best I have found. I have read all three of his paperbacks and this is by far the best of the three, and one of the best novels of this type I have ever read. I would rate it right up there with the Hunt for Red October, the Bourne Identity, and Eye of the Needle. You'll love it.

Summary: Clancy Lite?
Review: Mix a half parts of Tom Clancy and vintage John Grisham and you have a pretty good idea of what you are getting with Vince Flynn's "Transfer of Power." With the plot swirling around the terrorist takeover of the White House, comparisons to Clancy are only inevitable. I am a Clancy fan, but at least with Flynn you are not bogged down with dozens of narratives, overly techno-language, and a novel 2-3 times the size. Flynn is adept at keeping the narrative moving at a break neck speed. Originally published in the later 1990s, today "Transfer" certainly has darker undercurrents following the events of 9/11 -- what once may have been considered a work of sheer entertainment (ala the movie "Air Force Once") now will have readers pondering the terrifying prospect of it ever becoming reality.

Flynn creates a wonderful cast of characters from our make-no-mistakes hero, CIA operative Mitch Rapp, to a smarmy Vice President looking to gain during the nightmarish crisis. Many of these characters apparently have been featured in past novels, but this being my first Flynn reading experience, I did not feel lost at all. Of course, there a few criticisms (an unconvincing romance, the good guys going totally unnoticed while using elevators in the infiltrated White House, a tad abrupt ending) but they certainly do not detract for those looking for a good political thriller.

Summary: A nonstop action thriller!
Review: This one will keep you on the edge of your chair throughout until the very end. The story line is plausible and well researched and written. Mitch Rapp, the hero, is someone you'll love and glad he's on our side. This is Flynn's best book so far. I predict we'll be seeing a lot more of Mr. Flynn's work.

Summary: Very readable
Review: This treads familiar territory but it is well written and fast moving. While it is true that many of the characters are indistinguishable from other thrillers of this type, the action engages you and will keep you entertained to the very end.
It's good stuff and deserves to be read by a wider audience and Mr Flynn should be up there with the big names of the super thrillers.

Summary: My First Vince Flynn Book - GREAT CHOICE
Review: Like I said, this was my first book from this author and I absolutely loved it! Every once in awhile I get my hands on a book that I just cant wait to keep reading. This was one of them. Excellent mix of politics, military, and suspense. I purchased the Third Option about halfway through this book so that I would get it in time to start once I finished Transfer of Power. I dont think anyone would be disappointed....

Summary: Nearly impossible to put down
Review: I had passed Flynn's books many times but never quite got to the point of picking one off the shelf. Transfer of Power was the first novel from Flynn that I've read, and having done so, I 'm wondering why I didn't do so sooner. This book was outstanding! Although the events of September 11th brought an added dimension to the story, this book would have been compelling anyway. Flynn grabs the reader in the first few pages and doesn't let go. Transfer of Power is very tight and fast paced, with plenty of action, suspense, and plot twists. In the story, Arab terrorists have taken over the White House and hold the President hostage. As self-serving and power hungry politicians worry as much or more about themselves than they do about thwarting the terrorists, it is up to the US military, special forces units, the FBI, the secret service and terrorist hunter extraordinaire Mitch Rapp to keep focused on the objective of thwarting the terrorists and freeing the President. This book was almost impossible to put down. Now, on to Flynn's next work, The Third Option.

Summary: Vince does a very good job...
Review: ...of portraying how as Americans we can pretty arrogant and naive. At the same time how we can let the "System" bog things down and how much politics can be a hinderance vs a help in the face of tragic situations. Some very enjoyable characters and some great scenes of suspense. I didn't like this book as well as his first book, Term Limits, because I felt there weren't as many suprises...I was able to figure out what should happen next. Then again the story is based on the bad guys making an invasion plan based on knowing what reactions they could expect from the American politicians. Liked it enough that I'm definitely going to read the next book by him, The Third Option.

Summary: Well Done, Fast Paced and an Excellent Sequel
Review: In books and in movies sequels are a tough row to hoe. With successful book or movie ventures, sequels invariably wind up compared to the first effort and in all too many cases, the second effort winds up compared less than favorably. Fans of Vince Flynn's first effort need not worry. This book is one of the best sequels to come along in a long time and is certainly one of the better efforts in the techno-thriller genre.

In TRANSFER OF POWER, the author reprises his main character from "Separation of Power" and provides all the plot elements, characters, scenery, technical detail (albeit there are several noticeable and/or glaring technical and factual errors) that readers found in Flynn's introductory novel. The pacing starts slow and reintroduces the reader to Mitch Kruse (the working name for Flynn's main character) and the other main characters in this installment's story line. It is an effective technique that provides additional detail without bogging down the reader who is familiar with the theme.

In this novel, terrorists actually succeed in taking over the White House and at the very last minute, the President is whisked to safety in an underground bunker by his Secret Service detail. The remainder of the story involves the interaction between the Vice President (an incompetent toady who aspires to the Oval Office himself), his key aide (who is nothing more than a vainglorious obstructionist) and the Director of the CIA, Senior FBI officials, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and lower ranking military officers who are tasked with rescuing the President and his party.

Flynn does a very fine job of detailing the processes that take place during the deliberation on issues of monumental importance and not a stone is left unturned. While he spares the reader the extraneous detail and minutiae, it is obvious that national security matters have wide ranging consequences. National and international considerations are all covered and Flynn introduces international intelligence and law enforcement considerations into the mix with an acute awareness and understanding of the interplay between nations and their interests. Mr. Flynn writes with an almost insider's knowledge of the workings of the highest levels of government and he moves from character to character, scene to scene and episode to episode with remarkable ease.

I make these comments without giving away too many of the plot elements or characterizations because this is a very fastpaced and well done thriller. With the exception of some minor military details, Flynn covers all the bases quite well. If you're looking for a quick, exciting and satisfying thecno-thriller, then read TRANSFER OF POWER. You won't be disappointed and in fact, after finishing this installment, you'll be out looking for his next. Flynn is an author with all the hallmarks of a future Clancy. Hopefully, his publishers will give him the backing and advertising he needs to allow his books to succeed. Based on what I have read so far, he certainly deserves to be up there.

Summary: Great Book!
Review: While waiting for Tom Clancy to put out another book I found myself searching for something Clancy like to sink my teeth into.
This book was fantastic, the premise of the story was good and very well thought out. the very idea of terrorists taking over the White House is almost unthinkable. The characters are really well written. You are not sure what will happen next so it keeps you guessing which in turn keeps you turning pages, which in turn almost makes you miss your stop on the train(twice!!!!)Now that I am finished with the book I can say it one of the better books I have read in some time. I just started TERM LIMITS and so far so good.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Worth re-reading since 9/11
Review: I read this book in 2000, and am re-reading it in light of September 11. This story is so well developed that it seemed perfectly plausible that terrorists could target and capture the White House. Now, the prospect is downright frightening.

The details of the story are vividly written, from the planning of the terrorist plot to the lightening-fast reflexes of the Secret Service agents evacuating the President to the emergency bunker to the attempts to run the government in the aftermath of the takeover. I was kept on the edge of my seat from cover to cover.

There are only two negative points: the predictably sappy romantic sub-plot, and the less than realistic public dispute between the President and Vice President at the end. Aside from that, this book is more than worth the price to buy it and the time to read it.
