Summary: The Pillars of the Earth
Review: "The Pillars of the Earth" is a book about a life of a men in the 12th century. It starts in his childhood and describes his whole life up to his death. It is a fantastic book because it gives you an impression of how the people lived at that time and how they might have thought. It tells you the dreams the people had and what they were living for. I could not stop reading because this book is so written that you feel like being a part of it. It brings you into that time and lets you be a person in the 12th century! I had a graet time reading it and my advice for everybody is: read this book!

Summary: Get the hard cover version... Keep it forever!
Review: I NEVER re-read books. This book is the only one. It was so good the first time, I told all my friends. On reading it a second time about 2 years later, I realized it was even better than I remembered. While I had thought it was a fantastic book about architecture, it revealed its true nature on the second read.. a fantastic historical saga about people.

Summary: This is a must read for anyone who enjoys history.
Review: You will be transported to another time and place. You will see the world through the eyes of the ordinary people who lived there. This isn't a history about kings and wars. It is a powerful story aout people who may have been our ancestors. Be sure you have plenty of reading time before you pick up this book. I didn't do much of anything else until it was (sadly) finished. I am in eternal search for another book this good.

Summary: Quite simply, my favorite book of all time!
Review: It not only unseated Stephen King's "The Stand" as my favorite book of all time, it BOOTED it off the top of the list! Enough of the others before me have gone into what the story encompasses; I can only tell you that it is one of only two books in existence that I would read multiple times. It is a work of art, and when the movie comes out, they'd better take the time to do it right, or WATCH OUT! Ken, you'd better oversee the whole project yourself!

Summary: One of my all-time top five
Review: This is a compelling masterpiece. A true epic with complex characters and a unique theme. The twelfth century backdrop sets the stage for the Magna Carta shortly after the books conclusion. Amid a fast paced story is much food for thought concerning the separation of church and state and each organization's strengths and weaknesses.

Summary: Phenomenal!!!
Review: If every book I'd read had been as entertaining as this one, I'd probably never get anything done. In addition to it being an enjoyable book, you learn quite a bit about the time period.

Summary: more please!
Review: The plotting is simply incredible, the story is thrilling and heartwarming at the same time. What a read. If you liked the Physician, you're probably going to read this book in one sitting...

Summary: Keep 4 on your shelf to give away - It's that good!
Review: The sights, sounds, and smells of the Middle Ages leap from the pages of this wonderful work. Any visit through a cathedral in Europe will bring back every page for you. I was sorry to see the last pages come into view so I started rereading it once again. Do yourself a favor and walk, run, or swim to the nearest copy. Better yet, buy yourself a Christmas present now - on line.

Summary: Follett's epic "Pillars of the Earth" an Entertaining Tome
Review: Ken Follett, probably best known for his thriller "The Key to Rebecca" or his non-fiction account of H. Ross Perot's rescue of the Iranian hostages in "On Wings of Eagles" combines the two forms in his historical novel "The Pillars of the Earth." The novel's plot traces numerous people's lives in Southern England during the medieval reign of King Stephen. Follett shows a mastery of creating memorable characters whose lives intermingle with one another over the course of several generations. While the main plot line chronicles the building of a cathedral, the subplots explain the political and religious backdrop that these magnificent buildings were built against. The book's thousand pages, coupled with historical subject matter, may discourage the casual reader, but the well crafted and meticulously researched story will prove rewarding for all who read it
