Rating: Summary: UNIQUE, FUNNY AND THOUGHT PROVOKING Review: I know Judge Clark--the author of this book--very well, and I guess that makes me a little biased. But this novel is everything you could ask for in a story. I admire the book's message most of all; through all the wild adventures and incredible plot twists, Evers Wheeling holds on to his faith and sticks by his brother. Behind the great comedy and fast paced plot, this is abook with something to say to everyone.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful debut! Review: What a wonderful book. Mr. Clark spins a great tale of intrigue, humor and, ultimately, redemption. The characters are well developed and fascinating, the dialogue snappy and true, and the story a winner. This is an exceptional work that will at times make you laugh out loud. It is all the more exemplary considering it is Mr. Clark's literary debut. Don't be put-off by the fact tht the main character and a female lead are, respectively, a judge and lawyer. This is not a Grisham or Turow knock-off; it is more akin to a cross of Kerouac and Richard Russo. Read it!
Rating: Summary: Buy this book! Review: The Many Aspects of Mobile Home Living is full of quixotic characters and clever situations, and at times it's laugh out loud funny. But Martin Clark is every bit as smart as he thinks he is, and readers who want to believe the tidy ending might want to think twice. Somebody gets away with murder. Death-bed conversion, anyone? Still, there's much to admire in the audaciousness of this novel, and it's easy to fall under the author's spell for just the sheer pleasure of it. I can't wait to see what Clark comes up with next.
Rating: Summary: The Best Self-Help Guide I've Ever Read! Review: I used to feel that there was a stigma attached to living in a trailer, but after reading this book, I can stand up and be proud of my little home! This manual for assembling and using your new mobile home really helped me cope with life. Martin Clark is a genius! I've never read a technical manual that was so chock-full of down-home wisdom and tips for cooking and cleaning my new trailer. This is a real southern book full of mystery and surprises! I couldn't believe it when they said that northerners own only 2% of the nation's mobile homes! Southerners own 89% of them! And I'm one of these proud people! Northerners think that all "trailer trash" people are paranoid and desperate, and indeed, some of Clark's examples are, but not all of us sit around drinking beer and shooting dogs off of the trailer porch! I am a very affluent mobile home owner, and I feel like this book spoke directly to me. The step-by-step directions for beautifying your mobile home ensure that I will never be looked down upon for my chosen lifestyle. Clark knows EXACTLY what mobile home owners need, and I highly recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about a mobile home, thinking about living in a mobile home, living near a mobile home, or just making fun of a mobile home on a daily basis. This technical guide really dispels misconceptions about how the choice of home reflects one's socioeconomic status. Living in a mobile home and reading Clark's book is far better than living in public housing!
Rating: Summary: A Wild Ride Review: This is truly a book you haven't read before. Just when you think you've got it figured out - it veers in another direction! The characters, while not not exactly exemplary, are fresh and ones you haven't seen before. It's funny, sad and weird all at the same time and in a good way!
Rating: Summary: Danger Will Robinson! Review: This book has something for just about everything - including managing to incorporate the above "Lost In Space" quote. I use that quote in the title of this review as a warning: Do not commence reading this novel on an evening following which you are expected to be at work - bright, perky and alert! I couldn't put it down to go to sleep! Furthermore, this captivatingly quirky novel is often laugh-out-loud funny - which may wake up one's bed mate. The characters and plotting are excellent: an eclectic/mystical marvel that resonates Tom Robbin's *Another Roadside Attraction.* In this first novel, Judge Clark also conveys useful insights, including: "You know, Miss Qwai, there are three red flags for a lawyer. The 1st comes when your client begins your initial meeting by saying, "My other lawyers told me, ..." The 2nd comes when there's a Camaro or a Rainbow vacuum cleaner involved in a divorce. And the brightest and biggest red flag appears when someone says, "It's not the money, it's the principle!..." Rookie lawyers and wannabe clients, take heed!
Rating: Summary: Many Aspects, All of Them Entertaining Review: This is a book that takes you on quite a trip, literally and figuratively. At times, the story is funny as can be, at times it's moving, and at times it's suspenseful. The courtroom scenes are very convincing and I never saw the ending coming. I will say that some of the language--in the exchanges between characters--is a little raw at times, and the book opens the door to some people and places I don't know much about. However, the writing is so pleasing and the plot so fast that you just get carried away. A fun, unique, different and powerful book, truly filled with all kinds of "aspects."
Rating: Summary: An absolute delight. Review: This is a terrific book. I hated to put it down and hated to see it end. My wife read it next and also thoroughly enjoyed it. We are recommending it to all who will listen. There is a reason that there are only a few bad reviews listed here. I hope Mr. Clark is busy writing his second novel. I'll be first in line.
Rating: Summary: enjoyable from start to finish Review: I was on the fence as to whether this book should get four or five stars. It is funny, the plot is interesting, and the writing is skillfully done. What sold me on this story, though, is the incredible treatment of the bond btween the brothers. While the book has its dark, comedic moments, it is also very moving in the end, and a study of faith and sacrifice. The scene where Pascal and Evers are sitting in an empty courtroom during Pascal's trial is moving and poignant. Any reader who has a brother or sister would have to be touched by this incredible scene. Occasionally the author lingers on a scene a little too long or spends a little too much time on detail, but I'd rather see this kind of effort and skill than so much of the cookie-cutter stuff that 's out there. I'd have to say that this is a truly excellent book on every level.
Rating: Summary: Yee-Haw! Trailer living at its finest. Review: I'm not surprised this book is so popular in my original home state and hometown in Virginia.
