Summary: Great
Review: This is a great read. The book appeals to southerners most especially. If you read too many reviews you will learn too much. Anyone who finds this book boring does not appreciate the concept of "southern lore".

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: different and good
Review: i like this book because its not middle of the road gruel like so much other stuff out there. it takes chances and most of them work like ruth esther's white tears and pascal's sofa and bug zapper and the non-pc dialouge and the dual plots. some things are clunkers like a stereotyped southern cop named moran and stoner rants but at least the writer's in there swinging. taking chances. also the book takes a chapter or two to catch fire but then its entertaining to the last page and clark can write. funny and witty and sharp as a razor this is a good good read but be prepared for a jolt.

Summary: Good writing, but I couldn't even finish the book
Review: While Martin Clark is a good writer, I couldn't even find the will to finish this book. The characters were completely unsympathetic, and I couldn't relate to any of them. The story didn't grab me, and I pushed myself to read through the half way point and then finally gave up.
This is not a book I'd recommend to anyone. Not because of poor writing, but because the story wasn't interesting, and the characters were two dimensional. I didn't believe for one minute that any of the events would have occured in real life, and that made it hard to read also.
Pass on this one, there are other great books out there to read!

Summary: What a find!
Review: The Many Aspects of Mobile Home Living by Martin Clark is a complex, clever, and hilarious tale that I just couldn't put down! The more I read, the more the plot picked up speed, and when it was over my only complaint was that it left me wanting more. You definitely won't be disappointed with this fascinating read! I hope the astute social commentator Martin Clark follows up his first novel with a new release very soon!

Summary: mobile home living, revisited
Review: I read this book a year ago and returned to see if Clark's got anything new in the pipeline. That alone should be enough to convey my enthusiasm for this novel. If you can relate to characters that find it difficult fitting into the mainstream of society, then this book might be right for you.

As a side note, I read Michael Malone's "Handling Sin" after reading Otto Penzler's review, the resident Amazon critic. The plot was superficially similar. But the characters, the best part of Clark's novel, were entirely different. If you are put off by characters that are frequently drunk or stoned (as some reviewers seem to be), perhaps "Handling Sin" is the novel for you. I'll stick with the more realistically troubled characters of Martin Clark.

Summary: Insightful, mellow book with great characters
Review: The book has wonderful, interesting characters, and makes the rare observation that all people in the south and/or in trailer parks are not, in fact, stupid. The only reason that I don't give it 5 stars is that the plot is a bit thin, but the characters more than make up for that deficiency. Excellent read.

Summary: One of a kind
Review: This novel is impossible to pigeonhole and lots of fun to read. It's nothing like the title; the plot is fantastic; and the writing better than most. Hard to beat, highly recommended.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not Funny
Review: This is a well written book - the author is clearly a talented writer - but... the characters are constantly drunk and/or stoned and are not particularly likeable. These folks are way too old to be getting high as a way of life. This book was supposed to be funny, and it is in places, but more often it is depressing because of the pathetic lifestyle in which these characters seem to be permanently trapped. Additionally, this is not a page turner, and I really had to force myself to continue reading to see if maybe the protagonist would eventually wise up (he doesn't). The high quality of writing is what saves this book from being totally uninteresting.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: It's funny overseas as well!
Review: This is just one of the best literature/mystery books I've ever read! It's not only funny for people who know the south and the trailertrash/white culture specificly found in the USA. I'm dutch, and I couldn't stop reading (and laughing)! I gave it to some friends of mine, and they all liked it. Read it!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great book.
Review: Don't read too many reviews of it. Its better going in not knowing what to expect. . .
