Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Tough times in NYC
Review: A slight change of pace from the author's debut, "Letter Perfect." This new one is more emotionally charged, taking place as it does so close to 9/11. Det. Amanda Ross is more volatile, and more reckless as she forces herself to move on, to get her act together and to get back to being a cop.

The multiple storylines in "For Pete's Sake" interweave nicely, but not TOO neatly, making for a pleasurable read. Like "Letter Perfect," this one's a fast read, filled with interesting supporting characters, sharp dialogue and a few lyrical passages. There's an inherent sadness to the book, including a point or two that might move the reader to tears, but fortunately, the main character doesn't take herself so seriously that she sinks her story.

And unlike so many sequels, "For Pete's Sake" doesn't spend too much time recounting past events. Instead, a newcomer to N.H. Avenue could enjoy this one just as easily as someone who read "Letter Perfect" cover to cover.
