Rating: Summary: Great! Review: I have begun this review at least ten times and each time I rethink it. Enough is enough! I'll put this simply. Elizabeth Lowell has written another novel that I very much enjoyed reading. (FYI, I purchased MOVING TARGET at 6:00 last night and could not put it down until I finished it. I am at work today but wish I was at home rereading MOVING TARGET.) When Serena's grandmother is murdered, she inherits an old shawl and eight pages of old manuscripts. When she attempts to authenticate the pages, she meets Erik North who is an expert in old Celtic manuscripts. Erik is certain the pages are authentic even though another expert has said they are fakes (while offering $1 Million for them!). Lowell's Erik and Serena are great characters separately and together. The old manuscript business is well researched and well presented, not boring and stuffy. The links to past works are enticing, and add to the present story. Some writers use links to cover deficiencies in the present work - not Lowell and not MOVING TARGET. This book stands alone but would entice the reader to go back and read/reread the previous books. MOVING TARGET is well written, interesting, and enjoyable. This book is a definite keeper.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Fantastic! Review: Elizabeth Lowell has done it again. Fast paced and exciting, Moving Target is Lowell at her best. Five stars is not enough!!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent romantic suspense Review: A year ago someone murdered Serena Charters' grandmother Lisbeth by burning the elderly woman's cabin with her inside it. Though no one has been caught, California finally releases the estate to Serena as the only known member of Lisbeth's family. Serena inherits some small property, a Swiss bank account, a safety deposit box, and four pages from a centuries-old text that should have contained six hundred vellum sheets. Serena turns to medieval manuscript expert Erik North to verify the value of the four sheets from the Book of the Learned and to assist her in finding the rest of the pages. Serena and Erik feel as if they know each other though they are meeting for the first time. They also have a powerful attraction towards one another, but before they can see where it leads them or where it originated from, they soon find themselves as MOVING TARGETS of a killer who wants to own the Book of the Learned. Elizabeth Lowell is known for her strong characters and her latest tale includes two stalwart lead protagonists. The story line is fast-paced and loaded with non-stop action except for the occasional unnecessary diversion that adds nothing to a packed novel. The information on rare books is clearly researched and fully incorporated into the plot without missing a beat, adding depth to the novel. Fans of Ms. Lowell and those who enjoy a powerful romantic suspense with a touch of the paranormal will find MOVING TARGET a bewitching story. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Kept trying to care... Review: I love most of the newer Elizabeth Lowell, but I just couldn't get into this story. First, it's not really a romance. It's a thriller/suspense crime novel with a sex scene thrown in with little warning or payoff. I never really got under the skin of the hero, but Risa, the heroine, was fairly interesting. The little psychic twist seemed unnecessary and unconvincing. Still decent crime plot, some funny moments, and better written than most romances.
Rating: Summary: Big Lowell Fan, but...... Review: This book had an intriguing plot and compelling characters. The action moved along at a good pace. There were some clever plot twists I enjoyed. However some of the romance scenes were almost laughably written. But I'm not a romance genre reader so maybe that's why I found them a little strange. I also found some of the mysticism a little out of place, but that's also not a topic I am interested in. All in all this was reasonably entertaining.
