Summary: Disappointed
Review: I was really looking forward to reading this new series especially after reading the Donovan series. This is the first Elizabeth Lowell book that I have read that I was disappointed in. The romance in this book was not up to her usual standard. This book is definitely more of a mystery than a romance. I hope the other books in this series are an improvement.

Summary: Non Stop Reading
Review: This is a fantastic find. The history behind The Book Of the Learned was so unique and the mystery of the piece of cloth that Serena wore was so facinating to me. I like family tradition as in the origin of Serena's name in this great story. Serena and Eric had some interesting excursions.... they certainly held my interest from the first to the last page. I loved it..just as I have all Elizabeth Lowell's latest books. Can't wait for the next one. Although I would love to see her write more about the Donovans, especially the twins Law and Justin. I think this was a terrific story. I have a variety of interest in reading and enjoyed the slight difference in this story.

Summary: More than Romance
Review: Moving Target rewards the reader with more than suspense and romance. Lowell's books are quite informative on unusual topics. Unlike her others featuring the jewel authority family of Donovans, Moving Target focuses on the world of rare manuscripts. The interesting characters will engage the reader quickly. I could not put this book down until I found out if Serena would find the Book of the Learned. In fact, I finished it in one sitting. I really appreciate an author like Lowell who does her research to make her fiction believable. I only have one question--when is she publishing her next book?

Summary: Not the Elizabeth Lowell I love to read!
Review: I was so disappointed with Moving Target. I loved the Untamed, Forbidden, and Enchanted books and always wondered why Erik never got a story of his own. When I found out about this book I was so excited. The book just didn't deliver. The characters were not up to her usual standards and the story was no where near as romantic. I'm hoping this is her only book like this. This is the only book I have ever been diasappointed in by her and I have every other book she has written.

Summary: Moving Target missed its target!
Review: If you were waiting for Erik and Serena's story then you will be let down. I have waited since Enchanted, for Eriks' story. I was so excited to see this book thinking that it might start off modern, but surely it would go back and tell the story. There were to many characters. There was barely any connection to the original characters. I could careless about the characters in this story. I am really disappointed in this and I think she should have stayed with the historical aspect of the story line. It was hard to follow with so many different characters. To much sub stories that had nothing at all to do with the main story. If you liked Enchanted, Forbidden....Then do yourself a favor and pass on this book.

Summary: Ambitious effort
Review: In one volume Ms. Lowell has managed to combine two writing styles, two time periods, interesting characters, a complex plot, mystery, suspense, romance, history...pheew thats a heavy load. Lowell aims very high, and goes for distance. Many of the characters deserve a book to themselves. (I am confident we will see more of some of them) She even gives the Donovan clan a walk-on cameo. Does she succeed? on many levels-yes. But even at 400+ pages some characters and plot lines are not fully fleshed out. The characters feel skimmed over- some even feel like drive-bys. Perhaps it is because the main characters knew each other in a former life, but we as readers do not. What really happened to the Serena and Eric in the first life? And why? Disappointingly- for me those questions are not answered. I love Lowells writing as Ann Maxwell...Diamond Tiger, Shadow and Silk, The Ruby, are re-read favorites. The Donovan series . are also must reads. I appreciate her attention to research and detailed history on subjects and places I would otherwise know very little about. This bores the hard core romance reader. I find it fascinating. I now know more about the Diamond trade, textiles, deserts, Pearls, Jade, and Amber than ever before, and am the better for it. The romance here though isn't even relegated to the back seat. Here it feels like it is in another state. An odd state of affairs when the lovers spend most of the book in each others pockets I still give **** though to this ambitious labor of love.

Summary: Blending History, Ghosts, and Modern Technology
Review: As usual, Elizabeth Lowell delivers a fast-paced tale, blending the western US, tales of people from the past, as well as the Donovan clan. All of these have shown up in earlier books, but this one is a stand-alone, not depending on the others to be understood. Having read the earlier ones, though, it's nice to make the connection while reading. The details of ancient writing and how it affects writing today were an intriguing addition to the book, plus a pivotal point of the plot. I highly recommend this book, both to die-hard Lowell fans, but to new ones as well. Lowell rarely disappoints readers, and this story is an excellent addition to her collection of writings.

Summary: Sooooo Disappointing
Review: Save your money. The only other Elizabeth Lowell books I couldn't get through were the Enchanted/Forbidden/Whatever stories. This book not only continues the storyline, but in the present, it continues the boredom. I was disappointed from the beginning but forced myself to continue reading because I figured, "Hey, it's Elizabeth Lowell." Don't bother continuing. It doesn't get any better. I couldn't understand what the point was, and didn't know any better at the end of the story. I'd feel a bit better if I had waited and bought the paperback.

Summary: WHAT HAPPENED HERE?????
Review: I have read almost everything that I could ever get my hands on from Ms. Lowell, so when I walked into a bookstore with my youngest son, and saw her newest work sitting there, I had no hesitation. I did not get on my computer at home and order it, or read the reviews; I paid FULL PRICE right there in that bookstore. I had to wait to read it, as I was finishing up another book, and always devote my time to one author at a time. That took me less then a day. It has taken me over 2 weeks to read this work from Ms. Lowell (an unheard of event in my life, I, on average, read 3 books per week). This book is probably the worst piece of work that I have seen from any of my favorite authors. It truly hurts me to say this. Ms. Lowell has always been able to deliver what I feel is a solid piece of work, not this time. TOO many characters were not developed in this, including the main characters. TOO many details that really should be in a text book, not a novel, and the story line was so uncertain, I really wondered at times where Ms. Lowell was going with this. I understand after reading the authors notes, that she got the inspiration for this book after visiting Scotland, and finding out about Evans (her husband) and her heritage, but please Ms. Lowell, you can do much better than this. For those of you who feel that this is a credit to her, read anything else that she has written and then try and get through this book again, you can't. At one point, I even considered taking the book back to the bookstore and telling them that I wanted a refund. The only reason I gave this book two stars is because I could not bring myself to give Ms. Lowell only one star, she doesn't deserve that. Try again Ms. Lowell, I KNOW you can do better.

Summary: Loved It!
Review: Don't know what the others were reading. I LOVED Moving Target!!!! Just makes me want to read more, which is what a good read should do. I want to read Erik and Serena's (the originals) story as well as Lawe Donavan...and the mysterious Shane and Risa (what's up between them hmmmmm?). Well done!
