Summary: I can't believe this is Elizabeth Lowell's work!
Review: I have read every book I could ever find by EL, and I have never before been disappointed. With Moving Target I am not only disappointed with the story but I am mad at myself for paying full hardcover price for what turned out to be a very poor read. The story of Erik and Serena has been a long time in coming but the characters turned out to be uninteresting and their story boring. There were many characters thrown in from previous EL series but their presence in the story line was never explained, there was way too much yakity-yak between charatcers, and I quickly grew bored with the History 101 class on vellum and weaving. I read an EL novel for one main reason...romance...which is completely missing from this book. On a scale of 1 to 10 the passion between the main characters is a 2. I should have paid more attention to the previous reviews but I just could not believe that El would write a book I would regret reading. This book is so bad that I did not even finish it. It was PAINFUL trying to get through the first 200 pages, and by that time I had completely lost interest. I donated the unfinished book to a school rummage sale, where it sold for $2.00, a price more fitting the quality of writing. If there are going to be more novels in this series I will wait for the paperback version and then only check it out of the library. Take some advise from a true EL fan, SAVE YOUR MONEY.

Summary: Keep Moving
Review: Generic old time Harlequin romance with missing art tacked on. Derivative: soup cons of Krantz, Roberts; a line about trailer hitches made classic by Willy Nelson in the movie Electric Horseman; Donovans make a cameo appearance in chapter 19. Dialog out of the back seat of a school bus. When she is good she is very very good, but when she is bad who does she think she's kidding?

Summary: A very forgettable book
Review: This is the first Elizabeth Lowell book I've read in a long time. I had tired of her books and stopped buying them--all the "warrior" stuff was tedious, and they were all minor variations on a theme. I couldn't find anything else I wanted to read, and was marginally intrigued by the plot line, so I shelled out the money for a hardback. Silly me! It was a waste of money and my time. Boring book, boring characters, and the standard, boring Lowell style of writing. In fact, it was so boring that I had forgotten I had read it! Searching for a book, I noticed this title on an end table and picked it up, thinking, "Oh, I need to finish this book." As I started leafing through, looking for my bookmark, I realized that I had, in fact, finished the book. It was that forgettable. Don't waste your time or money. Lowell is definitely riding on the few earlier publications that were worthwhile, and this is formula writing at its worst.

Summary: Loved it!
Review: [...]The only complaint I have is that I hate waiting for the next book. True the romance is not hot in this one but I found that the story was interesting enough to me that I didn't even mind this. I generally like a lot of romance thrown in along with the mystery/suspense element and am confident we will see more of this in future books. I DO highly recommend this book. [...]

Summary: Interesting Subject -- but not interesting enough....
Review: First off, let me say that Elizabeth Lowell/Ann Maxwell is one of my all time favorite authors. I have read every single book she's written.

However, I'm sad to say that MOVING TARGET is not one of her best efforts. The characters Erik and Serena are set in modern day times, with mental flashbacks and dreams to another life in medieval times. Ms. Lowell makes good use of her prior medieval series of the Glendruid witches, Erik the Learned, by creating a sort of deja-vu type scenario in this book.

The topic of illuminated manuscript pages & collectible rarities also ties in to the Donovan family (her previous series). The book is very well written and the subject is very interesting but I have to agree, the first 200 pages were absolutely a drag. It took everything I had to finish the book. The last half of the book picked up. I was extremely disappointed about the romance relationship between Erik & Serena. In Sensuality aspects, it probably rates a 3 out of 10. In comparison to other EL books, whose steaminess rates out at 8 or 9...the book was rather drab.

I recommend to read MOVING TARGET, but just don't expect a barnburner book like some of Ms. Lowell's prior writings.

Summary: Moving Target
Review: I enjoyed Ms. Lowell's newest work immensely. A long-time fan of her works, I was pleased to see her combine two of my favorite character lines. I was spellbound by her Druid series, "Untamed," "Forbidden," and "Enchanted," and I have greatly enjoyed her Donovan series, so it was nice to see the combination of the two series. Although, in order to enjoy this latest work, it is by no means necessary to have read the other series, it does enhance the reading to understand the subplots.

In "Moving Target," Ms. Lowell again shows the reader her magic. The plot moved swiftly from beginning to end, without the lull in sections that can slow a book down. Serena and Erik are memorable characters in and of themselves, but with the elements of the Druid series, they become even more interesting. The story kept me intrigued until the end. In fact, I found myself going back and rereading the story a number of times. I am glad that Ms. Lowell finally found a way to tie up Eric the Learned's storyline. I recommend this novel to both romance lovers and mystery lovers alike.

Summary: What's with this scarf?
Review: Love EL's books but this tried my patience. Donovan series was better. I think she threw the Donovans in to keep us going. Knew who the 'bad guy' was from the very beginning. No surprises there. All the characters seemed a bit shallow. The final, final chapter about her own life was more interesting than the book. The scarf bit was eerie but then she made sense of it finally. If you are a fan, it's worth a night's time to read this.

Summary: Moving Target aka No Bullseye
Review: My first thought after reading this book was..."This took a YEAR for Lowell to write?" This must be the year for bad books by great authors. I have been a fan of E. Lowell for years and own every book that she has written. This is the first book of hers I have ever regretted buying, and I paid the hardcover price. It usually takes me 1-2 days to read her books, but I could barely make myself complete this one in 3 weeks. It was PAINFUL. I love her Forbidden series, and have eagerly awaited Eric and Serena's story for years. When I heard she was writing a new series that incorporated this story with modern characters, it never even occured to me that Lowell would dissapoint. This story had too many characters, too little romance, NO CHEMISTRY, boring love scenes, and there was NO Erik/Serena medievil tale that all of us have been waiting YEARS for. I love the Donovan series because of the snappy/quick-wit dialogue, attention to industry detail, sexual tension, and YUM, the men! I love Lowell's older romances because the love scenes are so hot the pages burn, and you get involved with the characters. This story, in her attempt to combine both, had neither. So save your dollars, wait for the paperback, or better yet a USED copy. I hope Lowell comes out with something up to her usual standards and I don't have to wait a year to read it.

Summary: a good read but no connection
Review: i have read all of ms.lowell's books and have enjoyed every one. the untamed, forbidden, and enchanted trilogy are three of my favorite rereads. although i enjoyed this story, i found that it didn't do the wonderful character of erik justice. serena was a hint in the book enchanted, a suggestion that they would have a story, but this book isn't it. i kept looking for sven, a secretive character throughout the trilogy, as well as others to have been reincarnated and wonder if he could be niall. the mystery/thriller aspect of the book was very good. however, she failed too give enough depth to the supporting characters that could have made it a tighter read. i suggest that she go back to the past and rewrite the serena and erik tale as well as give the mysterious sven his due.

Summary: Miriam
Review: I have been waiting for the sequeal to the medieval romance for Eric & Serena, however after reading the reviews I don't believe I have the heart to read what clearly will be a disappointment. PLease consider writing a book during the medieval time, I have kept the triology for 8 years and patiently waiting for the fourth, faithfully devoted reader.
