Rating: Summary: bad book Review: I hated this book. I have read almost all her books and I think this is the worst book. Some of the people appeared in this story were irrelavent, like the Donovans. The action in the book was boring, and slow-paced.
Rating: Summary: One of Lowell's Best Review: I just finished Moving Target and what a experience it was. The book is fast paced and keeps you turning the pages until the wee hours of the night. I simply could not put it down. I like the way EL has featured Erik here. At first I was upset that there wasn't going to be a book on Erik ( after so enjoying Untamed, Forbidden and Enchanted) in the middle ages but having him featured here in a different time is even better. I'm looking forward to reading Running Scared though I've read in reviews here that it's not as good as Moving Target. Anyway, great job, Elizabeth.
Rating: Summary: Could have been so much better! Review: This is the first E Lowell book I didn't really care for. Usually I love her reads. I was excited about revisiting the characters from the earlier medieval series she had done, but was disappointed that she didn't tell the original Erik's and Serena's story in more detail. Also, like others have said, there was a bit too much detail on the manuscript trade. I found myself nodding off or skipping over some parts. Also, why did she even bother with the scenes with the Donavan's? Wholly unrelated and useless to the story!!! Hope Running Scared is better.
Rating: Summary: Not surprising -- didn't like it. Review: Sorry -- I can't recommend this book. I have tried to read Elizabeth Lowell many times, and I just can't get into her books. I find the dialogue between her characters boring and/or corny. Attempts at humor are lost on me, and there is little to no chemistry between the main characters. As if this wasn't bad enough, we have to get a school-type lession on different types of collecting (depending on which book you read -- this one is manuscripts). I don't want to know every detail there is to know about this stuff -- a little info. would be fine. If you are looking for a good read, try any book by Nora Roberts.
Rating: Summary: Moving Storyline, Stagnate Romance & Bumper Cart Suspense Review: Elizabeth Lowell's current story includes suspense, incertitude and a history lesson on Celtic (15th Century) Illuminated Manuscripts. This formula comes as no surprise to Lowell's fans. Unfortunately, the pieces didn't make a complete picture. Serena Charters was raised by her reclusive grandmother. You quickly learn that even though they shared a one-room cabin in the deserts outside of Palm Springs, Serena was kept at arm's length. It's not surprising that she has trust issues, which come up frequently during the story. Fast- forward to the aftermath of her grandmother's murder. Serena receives some pages of Celtic Illuminated Manuscripts. Erik is an expert in 15th Century Illuminated Manuscripts. He is hired as a consultant by Rarities Unlimited to verify if the pages Serena has are authentic or counterfeit. The House of Warrick has already viewed the pages and declares them fakes, so they hire Rarities Unlimited to concur. Erik is caught between his "connection" to the pages (and Serena) and doing his job. Ms. Lowell has a knack for including interesting occupations that surround her characters. The interesting world of Illuminated Manuscripts, auction houses, and high-end collectibles get woven into the story. The flashbacks to the past were less interesting. I'm not a fan of creating characters that have lived centuries before only to find each other once again. To me, this was a poor substitute for more present-day romance between Serena and Erik. You get a chance to see some previous characters again and are introduced to some others. I have no doubt we will read more about them in the future. If you are looking for a decent read but nothing to keep you up all night turning the pages, take a chance on this.
Rating: Summary: Not a very "fey" read... Review: I'm not a reader of Elizabeth Lowell, but the book jacket grabbed me in the airport because of my love of historical fiction and all things Celtic.... I was disappointed, and LOST most of the time... She chose a very obscure and complicated premise (ancient illuminated manuscripts)and, I think, had a difficult time translating all that she had learned in her research into something understandable to the general reading public. I originally was caught up in the chemistry between Erik and Serena, but that, too, got old. And what's with the overuse of the word "fey"? Is that the word of the week?
Rating: Summary: Fun read Review: This book is simply fun. It is fun to read, a fun story, and well done. There is no deep meaning or greater value from it, but the story is well researched and fun to follow. Both the main characters are complex and enjoyable - no [junky] dialog or lack of development. You will enjoy reading it.
Rating: Summary: Not Again! Review: This novel from Ms. Lowell is once again disapointing. I was especially looking forward to seeing Eric find love after so many years. Ms. Lowell's most recent attempts at writing are more reminiscent of her writing as Anne Maxwell than the Elizabeth Lowell we have come to know and love while she wrote for Avon Publishing. In fact, I am glad I borrowed this from the library before I invested my hard earned money. See her earlier works from Avon for true enjoyment.
Rating: Summary: What happened??? Review: After waiting years, i finally got to read Eric the Undefeated's story and I was so upset! It was a good story, but I did want to see Eric fall in love, and to see him feel the pain of love. We got to see Dominic fall in love with Meg, Simon fall in love with Ariel, and Duncan fall in love with Amber. What about Eric?? Out of all of these couples, i wanted to see the rowan bloom for Eric and i didnt, so needless to say, this is the first time that i have been disappointed in an Elizabeth Lowell book!!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful story by Elizabeth Lowell! Review: I loved this story. "Moving Target" is a wonderful story loaded with mystery, suspense and romance. The style is refreshingly different for Elizabeth Lowell and she has even supplied her loyal fans with a new cast of characters to enjoy. A young woman's grandmother is murdered leaving behind many unsettling questions to be answered. The only clue the young woman has to go on is that of a priceless old manuscript.
