Summary: If you've waited for Eric's story it wasn't worth the wait
Review: I eagerly waited for almost ten years to hear the story of Erik from the "Forbidden" "Untamed" and "Enchanted" trilogy. Though I am not usually a fan of medieval romances, Lowell's trilogy had me begging for more. I fell madly in love with all the characters and patiently waited for Erik's story. When I read that Lowell was finally going to bring him to life in her next novel I couldn't wait for the release date. All I can say is that I was glad I didn't spend the money to buy it in hardcover. If you like mystery romances the story between the two modern characters was fine but not what I really cared about. I really wanted to know more about the medieval Erik and Serena. Lowell left us hanging when she created the strongly written character of Erik in the first three books and I felt cheated by both her and the publishing company when a fourth book never came out. I thought she would redeem herself with this book. But, alas there just wasn't enough of the medieval characters story told to matter to those of us who cared. If you haven't read the original trilogy than the book is probably an enjoyable read. I'm sure I'm not the only one though who expected more than what I got. Shame on Lowell and her publishers for trying to kill two birds with one stone in such a sloppy way. If you don't want to be disappointed by how little is ever told about Erik and Serena in this book than I suggest you don't read it! However, if you have no idea what I'm talking about, than you'll probably enjoy it. Too much background knowledge of where the medieval characters were coming from and no real filler ruined it for me.

Summary: ERIK'S STORY
Review: THIS WAS A REALLY GOOD ONE; I LOVED HOW THE DONOVAN CLAN GOT INTO THIS; AS SOMEBODY ALREADY SAID, DARE WE HOPE THAT LAWE'S STORY IS COMING SOON? WELL, ANYWAY, IT TIES BACK TO HER HISTORICAL SERIS OF "UNTAMED", "FORBIDDEN",AND "ENCHANTED". AND TELLS THE STORY OF ERIK, AMBER'S BROTHER. THE ONE THING I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT THIS, WAS THAT ERIK'S NOVEL WASN'T A HISTORICAL AS THE OTHER EVEN THOUGH I KNOW THAT HE FOUND LOVE, I WANTED TO READ ABOUT THE JOURNEY...

Summary: This was a strange find...
Review: I was browsing in the mysteries section and came across this book. While reading it, I kept thinking, 'how did this book end up in that section?' It's not that there is not a mystery to the book, there is a good plotline concerning a lost masterpiece of handworked writing of early books made by monks usually, who illuminated their writings. This particular book was a secular (nonreligious) one, but still very valuable due to the age and the type of gilding and jewels used on and in the book.

After finishing the book, which in spite of it being more a romance book then a mystery, I enjoyed a lot...I am still confused. Other than the age of the book, the fact that it was one of a kind, and the fact that the female protagonist found out information about her family someone didn't want her to know (I don't want to give it away)...what was the big deal over the book? A bunch of people died to keep the book from turning up again, and I am still not quite sure what the big deal was. Maybe I read it too fast!

Anyway, it's not my usual reading matter, but it was pretty good fun. The love story is nice, with a bit of history and magic woven into the story. I could do without the graphic descriptions, but that's my own personal preference.

Lowell is not the best writer I've come across, obviously, because so much is left unexplained, too many loose ends. I really enjoyed the history and the information about this type of book...I've certainly never come across vocabulary such as pampliset before. It will be fun to look some of this up online.

Summary: Intrigue, suspense and shadows from the past.
Review: Serena Charters receives a message from her grandmother, saying that if she was reading the note, her grandmother was dead. The charred body of G'mom, her grandmother, was found in her burned out house with the police believing it to be a random killing. A lawyer gives Serena 4 pages of an illuminated manuscript which he was keeping safe for G'mom but when Serena asks advice from an auction house, The House of Warwick,as to how to go about locating the remainder of the book, bad things start to happen and her very life is threatened.Serena feels an uncanny affinity with the book and an old woven scarf of her grandmothers which she feels is helping to protect her from the greedy and unscrupulous people who are trying to kill her to get their hand on the pages.Enter a handsome hero who also feels part of her former life and together they battle baddies and discover a great love.Perhaps this book will appeal more to readers who enjoy a bit of other-worldliness in their fiction, but I found it to be be a good, exciting read.

Summary: You'll have more fun reading a history book....
Review: What the HECK was this book about?! I've read it - or tried to -and I have absolutely no clue. I was completely lost by the second chapter when the author began her lecture on 'leaves' and 'illuminations' and yada yada blah blah blah... In Moving Target Lowell goes through lengths in trying to impress the readers on the tiniest and quite boring details ancient manuscripts, the making of them, the forging of them, the making of them again and again and again. Erik and Serena become secondary characters to the boring history lesson. We (the readers) don't get the chance to know or understand Erik and Serena as they're development is hindered by the numerous (insignificant) secondary characters and the constant lectures by the author.
All in all, I'm sorry I wasted my money on this book.

Summary: Absolutely Fabulous!
Review: Finally I get to hear about Erik. I have waited for years to hear his story. I bought this book solely on the reference to Erik the Learned. I sat on it a while because suspense romance, unless it is written by Linda Howard, isn't my thing. Yet, I can say that this book is great. For those you us who have waited with baited breath for Erik's story this novel delivers. It doesn't give the full story and there are many pieces that are left undiscovered, but I think the true story is in the parallel that takes place between the modern-day Serena and Erik. I was very disappointed to learn that EL probably won't be writing any more historical novels and that is where my true preferences leans, but I am going to take some time to feret out a few of her other books, in particular the Donovan series. I haven't read the books but I am looking forward to reading them. For those of you who are leary of reading about a modern day Erik take heart. This book gives you all you need while still retaining the mysteriousness of the fictional man we have all come to love. I give this book 5 stars because it was a truly a good book.

Summary: Ingenious!
Review: What a terrific way to tell Erik's story! This book, as a follow up to Erik from "Enchanted" is great. Hope Ms. Lowell continues the Donovan saga, as well. They're almost like family and I would love to hear Justin and Lawe's stories.

Summary: Better than expected
Review: What a surprise. This was a good book and an exciting read. I liked it very much and would recommend it to someone who wanted a romantic romance with a mystery subplot. Too often they seem to be sex laden stories with almost no plot. But Lowell can write. This story had fleshed out characters, a layered series of subplots, and a mystical historical connection between the two main characters. I overlooked the gaps in reality and enjoyed the ride. Let's have more like this from Ms. Lowell.

Summary: This woman just keeps getting BETTER!
Review: Serena Charters doesn't know who to trust. After the murder of her grandmother a year ago, the estate has just been settled on her. An estate that includes four leaves from an illuminated manuscript that she has no idea of it's value, or even if it's authentic. So taking the suggestion of her late grandmother's attorney, she contacts two reputable sources to get appraisals; The House of Warrick, a renowned auction house, and Erik North, a reputed expert on illuminated manuscripts. With The House of Warrick accusing her of trying to push off forgeries, Serena doesn't know where to turn, or if she should give Erik North even a shot at looking at the pages. She's beginning to think that there was a lot more to her grandmother's murder than anyone realized.

Erik North, and independent appraiser of illuminated manuscripts for Rarities Unlimited, has spent almost his entire life being enthralled by 'The Book of The Learned', a book of illuminated manuscript pages that had no definite origins, and no one seemed to know where the full book was. When he hears of the four loose manuscript pages out there, he immediately wants to see them, no matter the cost. He's thrilled when a package shows up on his door. Even with the poor copies, Erik is sure that these are pages of The Book of The Learned. He begins to try to contact Serena, which is somewhat frustrating, since he has no luck. When he finally does run her down, he's astounded that she's in actual fear for her life. The mystery deepens when he does see the pages, and knows these are no forgeries. Taking Serena's care into his own, they set out to uncover the mystery of not only her grandmother's death, but the whereabouts of the actual Book of The Learned.

Erik and Serena quickly realize that they have an attachment to one another, something even deeper than the sexual pull they felt immediately. As the action heats up, so too does the relationship develop between the two, who both have trust problems. There relationship is wonderful to watch unfold.

Ms. Lowell has penned the most incredible page-turner! The action hooked me from page one, and it was all I could do to put this book down and go to sleep. The characters are so real they breathe life into this story, and the plot is so superbly woven; you don't even realize how deep it is until she drops a shocker on you. With undercurrents of reincarnation subtly threaded through, Ms. Lowell shows us exactly why she continues to top the charts. This is an absolute MUST read, and for me, it's a MUST rush out and get the sequel, Running Scared, which is available in hard back now.

Summary: A great read
Review: I loved this book. I wasn't sure what to expect since I'm not very familiar with the author's work but she got me from the Prologue and kept me. In addition she brought in characters you'd love and some you're curious about, what more could a reader look for.
