Summary: Cardboard characters, extremely contrived plot
Review: The h/h are cardboard cutouts who have great sex; there is nothing here that explains more than a sexual attraction, especially not enough of one for the required Happily Ever After. The plot is rife with extreme coincidences (the Saab mixup, the prison friendship) and inconsistencies (the horrible ex- encouraging hero in his new romance...) It would have been great if some attempt had been made to realize the potential of the h/h differences: class, social position, politician's daughter vs. investigative reporter, but these issues were only dealt with glancingly. Her involvement with him was unbelievable to begin with, given her long-term commitment to her father's campaigns (and based on the minimal interaction they had had by the time she jumped in to the relationship with him); not enough groundwork was done to make it believable for me (i.e., an electric handshake and laser-intensity blue eyes aren't enough).

Summary: A wonderful page turner
Review: This book was so addicting that I read it in less than two days, during finals week (instead of studying).
Riley O'Brien, the daughter of a presidential candidate, has her whole life planned-she'll help her father get elected and become his first lady once he reaches the White House. Unfortunately her life takes a new twist when a car bomb explodes, tossing her straight into the arms of investigative reporter Jake Mahoney. This begins a love-hate relationship between the two in addition to opening up an investigation that involves both the present and a twenty year old mystery.
This book contains everything-suspense, romance, humor, mystery-everything you can possibly want. Riley is a terrific strong female character and Jake is the perfect complement to her (they have great chemistry throughout the book). Both the romance and the suspense kept me reading and wanting to find out what would happen next. Overall, an awesome book-I'm definitely buying more of Dee Davis' books!

Summary: Wonderful!
Review: This is, yet again, a marvelous book by author Dee Davis. I totally understand why the book was titled "Dark of the Night." The characters in this book, as always with an author like Dee Davis, are true-to-life, believable and exciting. This book has twists and turns that will set your emotions on a ride for their lives. Riley O'Brien, the Senator Carter O'Brien's daughter, has been keeping her past hidden in her mind for 20 years. Her sister's death and her mother's along with vowing to never leave her father's side. A chain of strange events begin to occur as Jake Mahoney, a handsome ans sexy reporter, asks Ms O'Brien some questions and the likes of each other keep popping up out of no where. As their romance becomes hotter than fire, people start dropping like flies as both Jake and Riley's life comes tumbling down. A wonderful book, don't miss it!!

Summary: Steamy Southern Romance
Review: This story starts with a bang and keeps on going, the suspense building in the slow, Southern heat of an Atlanta summer. Riley is the daughter of a presidential candidate and finds herself attracted to Jake, a reporter covering her father.

As the two come together, both fighting their attraction -- murder and old family history start to seep into the story, until both are fighting to expose the truth, no matter the cost.

A great story of romance and suspense, with a great hero. I love Miss Davis' stories and she doesn't disappoint in this one.

Summary: Well worth the read!
Review: This was a fast-moving book that definitely held my interest. I did, however, find Riley somewhat grating. Until the end she seemed unable to think for herself or make an independent decision. I am definitely looking forward to Dee Davis' next book "Midnight Rain".
