Rating: Summary: Don't bother Review: I've red lots of Sandra Brown romance novels but this was the first time I read one of her mystery/romance novels. Needless to say, I was highly dissapointed with this book. The romance and mystery was not exciting, and the plot, of course, is highly predictable. What disturbed me the most was the man, Chief, didn't mind being with both twin sisters. Don't even bother with this one.
Rating: Summary: A Great Time-Killer Review: As with most of her books, Sandra Brown attempts to inject THE SWITCH with equal parts suspense and romance. As a whole,THE SWITCH works more often than not, thanks to some fairly interesting characters and a few solid(though occasionally predictable)plot twists. The story is driven by the death of Melina Lloyd's identical twin Gillian, and the subsequent search for not only her killer but the reason for her murder. The major quibble here is the chief protagonist, an evangelical maniac known as Brother Gabriel whose purpose in life is to create a world in his "image"(you don't know how literal that last statement is). His purpose, and what is ultimately the driving force behind the plot of the book, is utterly ludicrous, completely over-the-top, and as such some slightly twisted fun for those not looking for a reality check(there's not one in sight here). On a more minor level, Brown needs to quit writing all of her lead male characters as loners who have a painful past--and literally can't get past it(this scenario was also the case with male characters in both Brown's EXCLUSIVE and THE WITNESS). Nonetheless, those not looking for deeper meaning and instead for a solid time-killer would do themselves no disservice by checking this out(though the two aforementioned books both top this).
Rating: Summary: A Great Way to Spend the Weekend Review: I really like Sandra Brown and her books.Full of suspense and mystery plus romance you won't be disappointed with this book. It is classic Sandra Brown. If you have not read her before this would be a good way to get "hooked".
Rating: Summary: The Switch is just that... Review: Glad to see Brown writing more thrillers instead of her cheesy all-fluff romance novels. This one was a little predictable, but good.
Rating: Summary: Author's deceit does not work well in this novel. Review: Melina and Gillian Lloyd are identical twin sisters who decide on a lark to switch places for one night. Melina is supposed to escort former astronaut 'Chief' Hart to a special dinner honoring him. One of the sisters escorts him and they have a wonderful time, however, when the night is over one of the twins is brutally murdered. Ms. Brown insults the reader by lying throughout the book when it does not even enhance the plot. One does not know if the twin is the right twin or if the twin is the twin pretending to be the twin pretending to be the twin. See how confusing this gets? If the author was honest with her readers or at least make the main character a bit ambiguous then the novel might be enjoyable. Unfortunately, the author lies about the main character's identity that at the time it is actually revealed one does not even care. The characters are flat and caricatures of what they are supposed to be. There is a second story within the novel involving a cult who are kidnapping children born out of artificially inseminated mothers. The story is a bit ludicrous as well as disappointing.
Rating: Summary: I should keep my vow to give up Brown Review: I can accept the switch of identity, even though there had absolutely no reason for the switch (for what, for Gillian's celibration for the artifical insemination). But how can you accept the switch of place staying over the night, just because it was 2-3 at night, Melina, after listening to what fun Gillian had, and insisting her sister leave her home and staying at her house. I was also do not understand why Melina staying at Gillian's house at the first place, just to receive the Ruby pendant?
I'll saveing my money and time for keeping my vow to give up Brown.
Rating: Summary: Pretty fast read. Review: This is definitely not one of Brown's best works, but still manages to hold your attention because of the fast pace of the book. I felt it had a lot of references to her earlier works, and somehow lacking in originality. Also, the ending was too insipid and boring, no great suspence or mystery in this one.
Rating: Summary: Don't bother... Review: I read every single page until I reached 350 and then I read the last five pages to see if what I assumed from the very beginning were true, and I was right. I knew from the beginning that Melina was the one murdered because Brown referred to her as "she" through most of the book. Only when I got to the middle did she start to write "Melina". It was silly that Gillian drove to Melina's house to spend the night. Hart was not much of a character. I can't comment on the entire book because I was so bored with it, I didn't finish it. And usually I will force myself to finish it whether I want to or not, but this one was taking way too long to get to the end. I was bored from the beginning. However, I won't give up on Brown. She is a fantastic author and many of her books are wonderful. Many of them I can't put down. However, compared to her other work, this book was probably written in the space of a few days. Not very well thought out.
Rating: Summary: Don't read this if you want to keep the end a mystery! Review: I was very disappointed with the double switcheraroo at the end, which made the entire plot become unbelievable. We are supposed to believe that one twin would actually take on the identity of the other twin simply to find the murdered twin's killer? That would mean arranging and attending your own funeral! Isn't that kind of macabre, having your own mourners attend your sister's funeral? That seems unfair to the murdered twin. I didn't understand the need for the final switch. There was no point. I thought it would have been more interesting to have Chief realize that although his one night with Gillian was great, it really was Melina that he had come to love because of her intelligence and bravery. Although it was well written, as all Sandra Brown's books are, this one left too many overlooked holes and unrealistic behavior.
Rating: Summary: Truly a page turner! Review: Ms. Brown has done it again. Enjoyed "the switch" tremendously. Characters and plot are real and believable. Twins, Gillian and Melina, are involved in a twisted plot, one twin --- from the grave. Read it now!
