Rating: Summary: Read it in one day...says volumes... Review: "Chasing Demons" is the third book I have read by talented Christy Tillery French. Reading a novel in one day should say volumes to an author. The ability to not only hold the attention of the reader but keep the attention means a "great read," to me. Once again, as experienced in "Chasing Horses" and "Wayne's Dead" French demonstrates her talent for balancing well written detail with believeable dialogue. The contrast between the bad and the good zeroes in on her other gift to engage the reader in highs and lows emotionally, resulting in a satisfying reading experience; disgust juxtaposed with warm fuzzies. Amazing! Thank you, Ms. French!
Rating: Summary: A Must-Read! Review: "Chasing Demons" is a must-read for any lover of romance, romantic suspense, or books with plenty of thrilling action. The characters are wonderfully portrayed. Kendra Salvatori is a woman who has lived with an abusive husband for 12 years, yet has continued to keep herself strong and mentally free of his control. Her husband, Tony, a vicious man who expects to be obeyed and pleased, becomes insanely out of control when Kendra escapes from him. Garth Fisher is a sensitive, caring man who is passionate in his quest to ensure Kendra never returns to her domineering husband. Tony's bodyguard Vincent is a man toughened by life who sees himself as a protector of the innocents of the world. This is a fast, entertaining read. I guarantee, once you pick this book up and start to read, you will not want to put it down until you're finished. And you'll still be thinking about it after you finish! What a fantastic movie this would make!
Rating: Summary: My Kind of Book! Review: "Chasing Demons" is an entertaining read from beginning to end. The story moves so quickly, I kept turning pages to see what was going to happen next. The characters are well-developed, and I immediately felt as if I knew them. Tony Salvatori is a demon whose one passion is to control his wife, Angel a/k/a Kendra. When Kendra finds a way to escape him, Tony becomes a crazed killer. Kendra is a woman who is strong enough mentally to never entirely let her husband dominate her and who has a deep-seated faith. Garth Fisher is a man saddened by a life crisis who wants to protect Kendra from Tony. Tony's bodyguard Vinnie is a killer with a sense of justice. Since I'm from North Carolina, I was gladly surprised to see most of the story takes place in the Black Mountains - a beautiful place. The chapters where Tony finally locates Kendra are a thrill! I was anxiously turning pages till the end. Fantastic book! Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Good vs. Evil! Review: I love books with really evil characters, and you can't get much more evil than Tony Salvatori, power-hungry head of a criminal organization who becomes a crazed killer when his wife escapes his control. I didn't want to like the gangster Vinnie, but there's just something about him. Love the way the author showed Vinnie has a soft spot and the reason why. Kendra Salvatori is a spiritual woman with a backbone of steel. Garth Fisher is a man of quiet passion and strength who is trying to move past something he blames himself for. The two fall in love and become a forceful unit against the one thing that can destroy them: Tony. This is a story that I'm still thinking about and one I highly recommend. A story of redemption and triumph that will not disappoint!
Rating: Summary: Bravo! Review: I laughed my way through French's "Chasing Horses" and loved it so much, I ordered her next two. Received "Chasing Demons" on Saturday and had finished it by that night. That's how good it was! "Chasing Demons" deals with a very serious subject: spousal abuse and one woman's attempt to escape a man who looks upon her as chattel. Although Kendra has lived under the powerful control of mobster Tony Salvatori for 12 years, she never lets him completely control her, something that Tony, in his insane way, respects. When she finally gets away from him after suffering a miscarriage, she flees to Black Mountain, NC, where she collapses in the barn of Garth Fisher, a hostage negotiator who retired after he inadvertently caused a woman's death. While Kendra is healing, she and Garth first respect each other's strengths, then begin to fall in love. I got so caught up in this book, I resented having to take the time away from it. The last chapters of the book, where Tony finally locates his wife and Kendra stands up to him, are just thrilling. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough! Bravo, Ms. French, for an inspiring, action-filled, romantic suspense that kept me rapt the entire time I read the book. Now I'm going to read "Wayne's Dead"!
Rating: Summary: Action, Romance, Suspense ... Review: "Chasing Demons" has everything a reader could ask for: plenty of nonstop action, a wonderful love story, and breath-holding suspense that will keep you engaged in this story until the end of the book. I've been to Black Mountain, NC and can attest as to how beautiful the region is, so was pleased to see the story is based there. I hated the evil Tony and loved the bad-guy Vincent. I found myself rooting for Kendra and Garth, who are meant to be and become stronger together through their fierce love for one another. The characters felt real, and the dialogue and action scenes are the best. Fantastic book!
Rating: Summary: A REAL PAGE TURNER Review: Ms.French has successfully created a suspense novel brimming with action and laced with romance. The story is fast paced, yet the characters are so well developed you feel as though you have known them for years. Set against the rugged beauty of Black Mountain,North Carolina, as well as the hills and valleys of Eastern Tennessee, the author weaves an exceptional story. This is a MUST READ for anyone who enjoys action packed suspense.
Rating: Summary: Totally Captivating Review: An actor friend turned me on to this author, and after reading her first book, I was a fan. After finishing her second book, I was pleased to see she has recently published a third. After reading this one, I have to say, she just keeps getting better and better. "Chasing Demons" held me captivated the entire time I read this book. As with her other two, Ms. French writes at a fast pace, and provides a great story with wonderful characters. Like her other two, she also switches genres, which is an added bonus with each book. Kendra Salvatori has led an abuse-ridden life until she finds a way to escape. She meets Garth Fisher, a man who is trying to deal with a tragedy by secluding himself on a mountaintop. Through their love for one another, both become stronger and confront their demons through their resolve to stay together. Tony, Kendra's husband, is a crazed mobster who leaves a trail of blood as he tries to find his wife. His bodyguard, Vincent, is one of my favorite characters. A killer with a soft heart. The story builds until the final chapters, when Kendra takes a stand against her husband. I could not put the book down at this point! Full of action and suspense, I recommend this book to everyone.
Rating: Summary: Action-Packed Romantic Suspense! Review: I read this author's first two novels and have been on the lookout for more from her, so soon as I read she had another book coming out, I pre-ordered it directly from her publisher. You never know what to expect from French. Her first book was a romantic comedy with a smidgeon of suspense, her second was a psychological thriller, and now, "Chasing Demons", which is romantic suspense packed with action. This is a great book. Filled with characters you love and those you hate. Tony Salvatori is evil personified and his wife Kendra is his direct opposite - a woman of quiet resolve and faith. Garth Fisher is a man who is trying to come to terms with a past mistake and makes a commitment to himself to protect Kendra from her vicious husband, who goes on the rampage as he tries to find her. Vinnie is a cold-hearted killer who, feeling sympathy for Kendra, helps her escape from her abusive husband and does his best to try to keep Tony from finding her. I could not put this book down. As usual, French writes in a concise, fast-paced way. The last chapters are suspense-filled and action packed. Great book by an author I love to read. I wonder what's next?
Rating: Summary: Midwest Book Review - action thriller plus romance Review: The author of Chasing Horses and Wayne's Dead has done it again. Her gift for creating compelling characters and an exciting story comes a cropper in Chasing Demons. This third book is Christy Tillery French at her best. At age 14, a beautiful and innocent Kendra is "traded" by her father to Tony Salvatori. Tony is a mobster, an evil, murderous villain of the worst kind. Wealthy and powerful, he grooms the young girl he's renamed Angel to be his wife. At age 18, he marries Kendra / Angel and sets out to make her into the sort of woman he can be proud of in public. Over time her life becomes a nightmare of vicious beatings and observing Tony's murderous vendettas. When he deliberately causes her to miscarry their child, she escapes with the help of a sympathetic henchman. Battered and hemorrhaging, she finds shelter on the property of Garth Fisher. Garth is a burnt out cop who lives in self imposed isolation in the mountains of North Carolina. At first shocked and moved by Angel's condition, he soon feels admiration for her courage. Over time, his concern for her turns to tenderness, and then love. The only man Angel has ever known intimately is the brutal Tony. Garth's quiet strength and gentle consideration are a new experience, one she'd like to explore if only Tony's spectre was not threatening their lives. The raging Tony cuts a violent swath through several states in his maddened search for Angel. And when he and his goons catch up to Garth and Angel, all hell breaks loose. But Angel has vowed to rid herself of Tony. No more chasing demons. The final chapters are full of adrenalin pumping action as Angel takes her stand with Garth beside her. It seems Ms. French can write in any genre. Her work is always "no holds barred" excitement, with strong and believable characters racing to a satisfying climax. If you like action thrillers with a healthy dose of romance, give Chasing Demons a whirl. Any movie producers out there? This one would make a thrilling movie.
