Rating: Summary: Great summer read. Review: As Patience Sinclair arrives at the rodeo in Texas. She's driving a little red Chrysler convertible. Enjoying the wide open spaces of Texas. Finally away from the last terrible six months. She's not paying much attention to her speed, thinking of the exciting summer ahead. She doesn't see the horse and boy until he dashes out in front of her.She slams on the brakes. Misses the boy and the other two riders. She apoligizes. But one of the cowboys don't care much for her Boston accent. Patience has had enough of her share of pushy men. She speeds off for the arena. When she approaches another cowboy looking for Shari Wills. The cowboy points her out as the little red head. Shari is a barrel racer. She will be Patience roommate for the summer. Patience is doing research for her thesis on Modern Day Women of the West. Shari takes Patience to meet the owner of the rodeo "Circle C" Charlie Carson. She also introduces her to the rest of the rodeo. As she is intoduced to Dallas Kingman, she recognizes him as one of the cowboys she ran into on the road. She thought she should have recognized him before as the "World Champion All-Round Cowboy". But she didn't before now. Her and Dallas at first do not hit it off. She thinks he's arrogant and overbearing. He thinks she's out spending daddy's money and that she is what they call a buckle bunny. Through out the summer Patience proofs Dallas wrong. Someone is causing accidents at the rodeo. And there costing money and horses. Dallas and Patience finally hit it off. Between the two of them they find out who and why. But will the two of them be able to their differences aside and live happily ever after or will they seperate to live the lives they've made for themselves. Him a cowboy. Her a proffessor.Have fun reading "Desert Heat". Very good book. You'll enjoy it from the first page to the last.
Rating: Summary: Very good. Review: Attempting to escape a rejected love turned stalker, Patience Sinclair heads south, to the rodeo. Originally, the trip was planned just to work on her disertation, but escape becomes the focus. The rodeo is a whole new world. Cowboys, barrel racers, and courageous clowns have their own civilization in which Patience becomes enthralled. It has its own inherent romance, and Patience soon has to face her fears when she gets entangled with an overly amorous cowboy. Before trouble can get out of hand, she is rescued by the someone who won't be turned aside. Dallas embodies everything a man ought to be, and is willing to be there for Patience. When the city girl learns that danger lurks even there, a serial killer is on the loose, she will need all her own skills and all of Dallas' courage to handle the situation. If she lives through it, it will be time to go home, and leave behind her heart. Can she do it, or is there another way? **** Some writers pen such wonderful books that reviewers almost hate them; it's hard to write about the story without letting out too much, and then reading lesser books is painful. However, although Kat Martin fits this category, I don't want her to ever stop. She makes the settings and people seem real, yet still has the slight larger than life quality that makes reading her books an escape from reality. **** Amanda Killgore
Rating: Summary: Kat Martin the Amazing! Review: Being a huge Kat Martin fan I just want to say that I've enjoyed everything she's ever written. Obviously some more than others. Desert Heat is the 2nd book in a 3-book series telling the story of Patience and Dallas. Not knowing anything about rodeos myself I was greatful for all the details Mrs. Martin provides. But, I did sometimes find myself skipping paragraphs every once in a while when things started to drag. The plot and storyline are both good but I felt like everything was too spread out. The story takes place through an entire summer so of course it'll span some time. While there are incidents that happen in the story to the Circle C Crew they just seem thrown in. Not completely thought out. Lastly, the "villan" of the story isn't even in the story! Final Verdict: I feel that the story has a wounderful outline and premise but everything else just seems thrown in. If you're a Kat Martin lover you'll enjoy the book b/c its a Kat Martin book. But, if you've never read a K M book before start with something else first!

Rating: Summary: Another Great book Review: Desert Heat by Kat Martin is the story of Patience Sinclair, sister of Charity from the book Midnight Sun. Patience Sinclair is leaving a stressful situation in her hometown of Boston to travel to Texas to work on her dissertation about women of the west. She is traveling with the rodeo for the summer. Patience wasn't thinking that the man of her dreams would be a champion rider. Dallas Kingman was a cowboy down to his bones. He didn't know how to handle this classy woman from back east. The rodeo helped to make Dallas the man he is today. Patience and Dallas give in to their attraction for the summer. But both want more. As they begin to fall in love, strange accidents start to happen at the rodeo, leading fear to creep into their lives. Kat Martin writes a sensual tale of love and convictions. Looking forward to Hope's story.
Rating: Summary: Passive / aggressive Review: I had read the first book of this series and didn't really enjoy it, but thought this one might be better because of the plot. At first, I couldn't understand why I did not enjoy reading this book. I struggled just to finish. The story was good. The writing was good, but I just didn't "feel" as though I was there in the book. Once I finished reading, I knew why I didn't enjoy the book; I just didn't connect with the characters at all. The characters were shallow, didn't have any depth and were passive / aggressive, which was annoying. The author just skimmed over the sub-characters so they remained a mystery even though they are a large part of the story. I gave it three stars just because the story had potential. As I read this book, for some reason I kept thinking of high school...
Rating: Summary: Soooo Predictable Review: I have enjoyed reading Kat Martin books for years. It is so disappointing to see a good author become so preditable. There were no surprises in this book, and really who cares about the great great grandma and the long ago murder that she solves. I agree with a previous reviewer that she never developed her characters. Plus I really got tired of reading the same thing over and over again: We are from different worlds and love is just not enough. Don't waste your money on this one, buy it used if you really want to read it. I know it is one I will be turing into a used book store, and I collect her books.
Rating: Summary: well.....the ending ruins it (?Losing Patience?) Review: I really enjoyed Desert Heat - the Southwest location, the rodeo setting, the "intellectual" addition of Patience's PhD dissertation, the mini-mysteries of Tyler, Charlie and Lucky and, of course the total sexiness of Dallas. HOWEVER the ending was abominable....the heroine who works so hard to get her PhD gives up her career immediately to be with her lover - and - what is WORSE Kat Martin provides an alternate ending (of Dallas switching his career to become a vet and stay with PJ in Boston) which is rejected!!!!! How retro can you be???? It really ruined the book for me and turned it into such a cliche in the last few pages, which was unnecessary!!! Does Kat Martins "audience" require this self-effacing behavior? I myself have a PhD (and I love good romance novels) and I was totally turned on to Dallas BUT I would never just give my work up like that. In fact I'd find it sexy that a man like Dallas would offer himself to me so that we both could prosper! So sad. Yes, I am "losing Patience."
Rating: Summary: Good Read Review: I really enjoyed this book. I could hardly put it down. It is not a great suspense novel, the suspense is of the mild type. The romance is good and the suspense was good enough for me. Dallas and Patience are worlds apart in their careers, but love doesn't understand careers. I liked the tangle of emotions they had to go through. I really enjoyed the facts about rodeos. I have never been interested in them, but some of the things I learned were fasinating. This is not a spectacular book. But it is a warm, fulfilling read. That is what I look for in a book, not great soul-searching, or drama, but a warm, cozy, feeling when you finish it.
